View Full Version : How many square feet?

Just curious about the size of everyone's homes. We bought a house in May and moved from a 1400 sqft apartment to a 2900 sqft house. We went from feeling cramped in our apartment to having too much room (and too much upkeep!). How many square feet do you have? Is it enough? Too much?

We have 1300 sq ft. It is enough but would be better if there was a 2nd bathroom. For our next house we are planning for between 1400 and 1500 sq ft.

Our house is 2050 sq feet. I find the square footage perfect. I just wish the layout was different.

Mine is 1800. It's actually more than enough for just me.

Ours is about 2400 square feet. I like all the space, but I find that no matter how big a place we live, we always find enough clutter to take over the living area!

Ours is 1650 square feet. I think the square footage is fine, but like Eva, I wish the layout was different...we won't be here too much longer though (well, hopefully!).

We have 1850 sq. feet. :) It's pretty good! I do wish we had an extra bedroom (we have 3 now) and an extra half-bath (we have 2 full baths). That's it though! It's perfect in every other way.

We have 1890 + a finished basement not included in that sq. footage (probably an additional 800 sq ft.). We moved from a house that was 2300, and while I think that size is probably ideal for a family the size of mine, we can make so with what we have. Every ounce of our current space is useable.

We have 1512 Finished Sq Feet. It is small and we need more room. If we had one more bathroom we would be happy but if we had that and one more bedroom it would be perfect! (we have 3 bedrooms and 1 bath)

We have 1800 sq. feet. With just 3 kids it's fine. Now that we're having 4 I'd like another bedroom.. so something around 2100-2400 would be more ideal. Not that that'll happen.

Ours is over 4,000 but that does include a finished basement. Honestly, 4,000+ is more than anyone needs unless you have a zillion kids. I think 2,000-2,500 is enough to provide space without too much wasted space.

Mine is around 1600sf. I wish we had one more bedroom, but 3 is workable. I just want it for scrapbooking anyway :blush1:

We have 1900 square feet...3 bedrooms and a 1.5 bath. My main issue is closet space. I would LOVE walk-in closets in the master bedroom!

Our old house was 1500 square feet, but it had a half finished basement so probably add another 300(they put the furnance and stuff in the middle of it so we weren't able to utilize the space properly, hence why I say only 300).
Our new house is going to be 2500 square feet but it will have a full basement so add about 1200 to that.

Our old house was 1800 sf and the one we're living in now is 2400 sf, it was a change (and it still is in some ways) to go from keeping up with the smaller house to the bigger one but I love all the space though we still working on finding the best place for everything, not for lack of space but for lack of organization skills :shuffle:
We would kill to have a finish basement but houses with basements are VERY RARE around here... which it doesn't make sense at all seeing that we have tornadoes around here :screwy:

I think it's 1390.
ETA: It's enough for us as we are now, but I would like more room. I would really love a guest room or an office/guest room type of set up. I know we *could* live here and be fine, but I would like a little bigger house in the next several years.

We currently have 1700 and it's way too small. The house we are building is 4200sf (includes a full finished basement). Now if we can just find the acreage we are looking for...

Except then we'd have to live in Kansas!! But....we'd be closer to Suzi that way......so I guess it would be okay. :heee: Oh, and we'd get to see what Bridget looks like first thing in the morning! :giggle:

We have just under 2000 sq feet. I guess it's enough room. I would like another bedroom. I would make it a combination guest/craft room. We live away from most of our friends and family, so we have overnight guests a lot. I would love for them to have an actual guest room to sleep in. Other than that, we're happy. We currently have 3 bed, 2.5 bath.

I think ours is right around 2100sf and I think it is perfect. I would like a finished basement at some point, but that is way out in the 5-10 year plan... We have 3BR, 2.5Ba.

Ours is about 3100. If we ever finish the basement, it would be close to 5000. Gotta love the A/C bills it Atlanta.

Ours is 2150 sq feet and it's plenty (we have 3br, 2ba). I'd prefer to shift some of it around to make the living room smaller or get rid of it (don't really need that space) and add a bathroom to the master bedroom. I wouldn't want more than what we have, because then it's just more to clean, heat, and cool. No thanks.

Okay, I think I have the runt house. Ours is 1025 sq feet not including the finished basement. Do we feel cramped? In a few areas, like the kitchen and the fact we have only one bathroom. But other than that, it is a house and not an apartment anymore.

When we move next year (we're going to sell and move back to town) we are downsizing. I've been big housed almost to death. Too much maintenance (for us anyway). :gah:

I made crack brownies today
We have 1800 sq ft. 4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 bath. Our rooms are little, but everyone has their own space, and I have a craft room/office. I'd like the rooms to be bigger and have a bigger yard, but what we have now is perfectly doable.

My house is almost 1900 sq ft. It's actually too much for just Jackson and I. We have several areas that aren't even used...pretty much ever. It's 3 bedroom, 2 bath.

We have a condo: 1460 sq. ft. on one level which actually makes it seem bigger. 3 BR/ 2 BA... with 3 kids, I'd prefer more space, like a family room, dining room and eat in kitchen, but it works OK.

Well looks like I have the smallest house, it's 970 Square Feet, it's on a 7000 Square foot block though so I have more than ample space to extend, we just haven't gotten to doing it, it's 3 bedroom and 1.5 bathroom. It only has one living room combined dining, we feel EXTREMELY cramped. We need another bedroom and another living area. That is our aim when we extend! BUT overall we are surviving in this space, it just doesn't give anybody any freedom unless they go to their bedroom.

We have about 2600 sq feet and if we finish the basement it would bump us up to about 3500 sq feet. I think, for us, it's perfect.

Ours is 2 levels, about 2400sq ft. The laundry room is not finished and the lower level is half underground so I *think* it's only classified as 1200sq ft even though it is 2400 of living space. I like it a lot, but there are certainly things I would change.
I would like an ensuite rather than the ridiculously large wasted space of the main bathroom and I would like a mud room again. I don't like walking from the garage into the foyer of the house. I liked having a place to put my coat/shoes and knapsacks for work (and now school) that is not cluttering up the whole house.
We don't use all of the space, but part of that is due to lack of proper furniture for the living room (front room) and part of it is that we have put all of the baby stuff Graham's not using now into the spare room which no longer has a bed because it's in Graham's room and now the spare room is turning into a junk room. :gah: I must clean it out! All I need is a kid free day and it'd be done!

We have around 2400 square feet, 4 bedrooms and 3 baths. We went from 1000 sq feet to this and I've had a very hard time keeping it clean.

About 2400 sf. I love the space and we use it all, but it is a lot to clean! Actually, what am I saying? I don't clean. It's just a big mess is what I meant to say!

Our old house was about 3200 sf plus a huge unfinished basement that could have added gobs of space.
The house we're renting now is a lot smaller and I feel like I can clean it in 10 minutes. There's a living room, dining room, non-eat-in kitchen, 4 bedrooms, and 2 1/2 baths. The majority of our crap right now is in the living room. If this house had just one more room (or a basement) where we could shove all the toys, I'd be happy. I'd also knock out the wall between the kitchen and dining room. I didn't realize how much I liked having an eat-in kitchen.
I see now how much space in our old house we didn't need (formal LR, formal DR, study).

We are living in a crowded 1300 right now. We are in the process of getting plans drawn up for a new house that is around 3900.

My house is around 1500 sq. feet, which is enough for just Lindsey and I. :heee:
