I've been doing a lot of researching for the past week, trying to figure out a good diapering method for a newborn (I'm due with baby#2 in June) and I became interested in flatfolds. I want something that is soft and trim-fitting. I've been using Chinese prefolds on my 19 month-old son since he was an infant, and when he was a newborn, they were wayyyy too big and bulky. He grew into them eventually, but they are still REALLY bulky!!

So, today I decided to try two Gerber Birdseye Weave Flatfolds, (one as the diaper and one folded up to make a doubler) on my son to see how well they work and I am totally amazed!!! He has been wearing the diaper (and doubler) for 3 hours now and it's really dry!!! He already peed in it, but the diaper is still dry! After just one use, I totally love them and am considering selling my prefolds. The flatfolds are soooo much softer and wayyyy less bulky!! My son walks like a duck with a prefold on!! Plus, they seem like they'd be easier to clean and dry! And not to mention, they are the least expensive diapering method out there.

Anyway, I was just wondering if there are any other flatfold lovers out there!

I wouldn't have a clue where to start with them, I can't get Isaiah to stay still even a minute any more to get a prefold on him so we just use AIO's. I wouldn't have a clue how to fold them either, to they look like a prefold once folded? Im to the point now that I snap up a pocket or AIO and pull it on Isaiah since he won't lay down!

:wavey: I answered at MDC, but as for the folding and stuff, I keep them folded on the shelf. What I do is fold them in half, then fold into thirds (this is the point I store them at), then spread open one end for the back, lay the baby on it, fold the front down to accomidate for the rise and pin. I could never understand all those origami folds :lol2: .

I have so many (around 40) I'm turning some of them into cute little fitteds; I am cutting them in half and using as the soaker pad. I hate to use them all that way as they are so nice and trim as a diaper and I'm not sure yet what I will like using on a newborn. I'm always finding them at second hand stores and they're cheap at Walmart (although I never get there as it's 2-3 hours away) so they're easy enough to get.

They're what I grew up using on my siblings and cousins (I'm the oldest of 16 grandchildren on one side of my family, 28 on the other!) and all I really knew before I had kids of my own. I think it's true that they wash and dry better, and they can be nice a trim too. Because they're not fitted around the legs, you have to have a good cover, though. I use the fold that I saw my Mum and Aunties use, and I don't know what it's called. It might be the origami one Carla's talking about! LOL! It looks complicated, but it isn't to me and gives a good thick pad down the middle and only a layer or two of fabric to wrap around their waists and pin in the front. I use all kinds of dipes (I need a baby again) but flatfolds are still really good and thrifty.
