Do you miss the back to school feeling for yourself? What do you miss the most (or what do you really not miss)?
If you were to go back to school, what would you study? Would you be working to get a degree or just going for fun?
(I realize that is more than one question)

I kind of do miss that back to school feeling. I know I'm a geek, but I miss buying new school supplies, and having a fresh start.
I am actually planning on going back to school soon. Maybe in January if I can get my act together in time. I plan on doing a Masters/Teachers Certification program. I would also love to go to culinary school.

Looking back on it now, I sometimes miss the freedom and ease of life back then (thinking mostly of college and grad school). I couldn't handle going back to school now, at least not now while the kids are so little. I can't imagine where I'd get the time to write papers and stuff. That would definitely cut into my free evening OUAL time.
I don't have the thirst for knowledge that I did then... or really, thinking back, I don't think I had a thirst for knowledge then either. I went to school because that's what I had to do to get a job. If I did go back, I'd want to study forensic psychology, which is what I realized I wanted to do once I started grad school, but it would have been too difficult to change schools at that time because there weren't very many programs.
Rudi always talks about going back for something or another and we have had this idea of both of us becoming professors at a tiny liberal arts school somewhere when the kids are older.

Yes, I really do miss that feeling. Last night, I had a dream that I was back in college, living in the dorms!
Anyway, I just miss the fun of it all - the feeling of no responsibility, except for myself. The dragging myself out of bed w/ a cup of bad coffee and hauling ass across campus to fall asleep in a lecture hall. :heee: I miss it all.
I'd like to think that I will go back to school eventually, even though I swore up and down till I was blue in the face that I'd never go back to school again. It won't be until the kids are older - in jr. high at least. I have no idea what for, but by that point, I would think that I will have figured out WTH I want to do when I grow up.
If I don't do that, yes, I'd like to go to school just for the hell of it to take a few classes here and there. When I was an undergrad, I remember adult non-traditional students auditing courses. I always said that I would do that if I was able to. What's better than learning the material, but not having to do it the traditional way?

Do you miss the back to school feeling for yourself? What do you miss the most (or what do you really not miss)? YES..but not College..High School. For me I went to college when I had a 3 month old baby. I hated it. I felt trapped into a college that I hated and trapped because I just had so many responsibilities and so little time and was very depressed. (I know I did that to myself) So yes. I miss the back to school feeling but it is the care free high school feeling where nothing could really hurt me. I was responsible but not to the full extent..I loved going to school that first day, seeing who was in my classes, what was new for the new year. Now I just live through Tylor and Alyssa. I can't wait to go to the school and see what teacher he will have and who will be in his class and so on and so forth!
If you were to go back to school, what would you study? Would you be working to get a degree or just going for fun? If I were to go back I would finish out my degree in Music Education. I just have to student teach! Problem is I don't want to. I know we could live so much better if I did this but I have no desire to do so and that not only wouldn't be fair to myself but also not to the students I could possibly teach. I want them to love music and have the drive I did back when I was in school and if I don't have that drive now then I can't pass it on to them. So I won't do that to them.

I am currently going to school so I have the feeling :) I want to become a PA and I'm taking my prereqs. I've been taking them on-line so it's not quite the same, although this semester I'm taking an actual classroom class, a five week course in medical terminology along with a full semester of on-line biology. I haven't been in a classroom since I finished grad school 9 years ago.
I miss the back to school feeling from college, with everyone coming back to campus and seeing friends for the first time in a few months. I wasn't all that excited about starting classes.
I totally dreaded the start of school in high school.

In medicine we get that "back to school" feeling every July. The academic year in medicine starts on July 1st and ends June 30th. It's not totally the same but it's still there. What I like about that is the feeling that you get a "fresh start" each July 1st! I do miss some things about being in school. I certainly miss the flexibility. I also miss the opportunity to learn about all sorts of different topics. And I definitely miss the back to school shopping!!!
I would love to have the time to take some classes at some point. I'd love to learn more about art (from an art history point of view as I am a terrible artist!). And I plan to take piano lessons at some point in the future (I know how to play a little bit but I'd like to learn more). Maybe some language classes. I'd love to take some literature classes (I never did take a good American lit class!). Who knows if I'll ever have time for any of it!!! I also want to take golf lessons at some point. I'm not sure that I'll ever work towards a degree again. If I did I would either get an MPH (masters in public health) or an MBA.

I've been in grad school non-stop, including summer, for the last few years, so I can't wait until I don't have to go back to school! I will probably go back after that for a masters in liberal studies just for fun though in a few years.

Do you miss the back to school feeling for yourself? What do you miss the most (or what do you really not miss)? I guess I do a little. At least the excitement of seeing friends I hadn't seen in months, buying new clothes and supplies. I don't miss classes starting again, though!
If you were to go back to school, what would you study? Would you be working to get a degree or just going for fun? I really don't know. I still have little to no desire to go back to school after graduating college six years ago. :dunno: Maybe if there was a fun class to take I would do that but I don't have time and we can't afford it anyway.

I don't miss grade school / high school. I was shy and didn't like the people - I enjoyed the classes. What I hated was my mom used to buy us these cheap shoes in elementary school - and the first time it rained it would stain your feet blue. Hated that.
Now, college - man I miss that and the excitement and the first few weeks of the semester. Great times. Like Karri, I miss getting out of bed 10 minutes before class, throwing on a sweatshirt and cap, getting a breakfast sandwich and coffee and getting to class just on time. Those were the days.
If I go back in the future, it will be for something business-related.

I do miss that feeling of going back to school. I always feel this is the beginning of a new year instead of Dec 31st. does that make sense at all??? I just feel like starting school is a new beginning and I'm startinf fresh.
I would like to go back to shcool one day maybe once the kids are in school. I have my degree in accounting and have had a whole 2 jobs using it. LOL But, if I do go back to school I'd like to go back for something different...nursing maybe or teaching.

After I had Katie I twinged a little bit for it because that was the first year that I had ever not gone to school, whether it was as a student or teacher. Now, I'm back taking master's classes in Music Education, so I'm a student right now. Katie is going to preschool, so I of course got hyper and started thinking of all the things she might need then realized that she probably doesn't need notebooks, paper, pens, and pencils yet.
I do not miss grade school at all, maybe a couple of people I miss, but I would not want to go through grade school again. College, I had a blast, I'd do that over in a heartbeat!

Seeming as I haven't been to school since 1983, I don't remember the feeling so am unable to miss it!
I don't know if I'll ever study again. I wouldn't mind studying a language or two but that would be for personal enjoyment, not a career boost. So if I was to go back to school I would probably study something practical, like business or marketing or such.

I loved school, so yes. I esp. loved getting new supplies.
If I went back to school it would be for an art degree.

I can't say I really miss the "back to school" feeling, I do miss the lifestyle back then with the minimal care factor and the most important thing was what you were wearing to a party and what boy will be there
If I was to go back to school seriously I would probably do some kind of business degree to help me with my business. Although considering our business is growing everyday I can't help but think of "The Apprentice" where there was the merit for those who had the street smarts over the school smarts.
If I was to go back to school just for something I am interested in I would probably do criminal forensics
