Spinoff: How long have you been apart from your child(ren)?

Jayne's thread got me thinking about this. When I go in to have this baby, it will be only the second time I will have been away overnight from Emma. When she was 15 months old, I went for a girls weekend in Whistler.

Rudi and I have taken trips without the kids probably twice a year, for up to five days at a time. And then he took all the kids to visit his mom for five days after Christmas last year. I can't handle more than that.

I've only been away from Jackson twice. Once when I had my gallbladder out and I was in the hospital from Friday-Tuesday (I had complications). I did see him a couple times, but I was pretty out of it. Other than that the only time I've been away from him was for a girls weekend this past January.

I've never been away from Anna, but we are leaving both of them with my mother to go to a wedding in October.

WHen Tylor was 2 I left him for 4 days while I went with the Girls for a trip to Myrtle Beach

When Tylor was 5 1/2 Dan and I both left him for 7 days with my parents while we went on our honeymoon to Disney.

Alyssa and Tylor left us to go to Zanesville with my parents in May and that was for 3 nights. Aside from that I don't believe we have both left Alyssa for more then a night. I really need to think about that one Hmmm...

Oh..and we are leaving them for the first time for about 5 days the 25th of September through the 30th when we go to the outterbanks for my friends wedding!

The longest I've ever been away from Matthew was in February when he spent 5 days with my parents' (just because). The longest I've spent from Sara was 2 days and that was just last month when our power was out and they stayed at my parents'.

Either. In our case, it would be one of us since so far both of us hasn't happened. I would love to getaway with just DH but it hasn't happened yet. :(

When Aidan was 8 months old, Chris and I went to Mexico for 6 days and left him with my parents.

With all 3 kids, it has been harder to leave (not hard to separate ourselves, just harder to get anyone to take them :lol: ). It was when we went to the Bahamas this past Oct for 5 days for our 5 year anniversary.

He's been apart from all 3 longer than 5 days, though. In May, he didn't see them for 8 days. He did say that it was hard, but because he was gone for buiness, not pleasure. I am sure if he was on vacation, it would have been different.

Natascha has been away from us for three months. She stayed with her grandparents in Germany.
Kyle.....the longest I haven't seen him was 2 days when I was on a business trip.

The longest I've been away from Riley and Owen has been 2 nights, most recently in April for the scrap retreat.

The longest I've been away from Riley was the two days spent in the hospital when I had Jeremy. But I still saw her. I've only spent one other night away from her when Phil and I went overnight in Wisconsin.

With Jeremy, I've yet to be away more than a few hours. I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Two years ago, DH and I went on vacation to Canada for four days and left Caroline with his parents. It ws the first time we had left her overnight and I cried the whole flight. :blush:

Cass is on a 3 wk vacation, I think tht's the longest she's ever been away. Paige on the other hand :scratch: I want to say overnight but hell, I can't even remember the last time she stayed overnight anywhere except when she was about 11 months old for a wedding:woa:

I have never left Olivia. The only time I left Claira was whe she was 18 months old for 3 days while I was in the hospital having Olivia, that was hard for me.

When Aaron was 19 months old we went to WI (and met Karri!). We were gone for 5 days total. I cried my eyes out when Aaron drove away in MIL's car.

Just over a week ago Aaron went to Chicago with MIL and her husband. We followed the next day but boy did I enjoy those 24 hours by myself!

We have both only left the older two boys for a random night here and there, but we never left town. I have NEVER been away from Jacob.

I guess you can also count the 5 nights I was in hospital after having the younger two, but Tony brought them in t0 see me everyday.

I think it is due time for Tony and I to go on a vacation alone, but it's so hard to convince my parents to watch all 3 boys for an extended period of time. :blue:

4 days and it was only me as I was traveling on business. We are going to Mexico for a week very soon and they will be staying with my SIL.

Away from just Paul.....about 3 days when I've taken him with me to visit friends
Away from just me......about 28 hours when I went to a women't retreat for an overnight.

That's it! We have been thinking of taking some alone time to reconnect sometime in the near future. :) We'd probably leave Alex alone for a weekend with my IL's. I just don't know when that'll happen yet......

Emily has had one night sleepovers at my brother's house and her best friend's house. Only ever one night though and wasn't even away for 24 hours. Harry travelled with DH twice, I think it was 4 days each time (but he was with Alex and I still had the other two. ) I've never been away from Samuel. I slept away from the older two when I was in hospital having babies, but they spent the days at the hospital with me. Alex and I haven't ever had a night away from them together and I can't see it happening anytime soon, seeming as we don't have anyone to look after them.

I've had several business trips that have been close to a week, like I have to leave on Saturday and don't get back til late Thursday or Friday. One such trip caused me to miss Colin's 1st birthday. :bawl: (But they all came to meet me in WDW the next day. :) )

I remember the first time I had to leave Colin, in particular. Sitting at the airport, bawling...and then feeling like I was about to leak all over and having to go to the bathroom to pump. :lol:

And see the sig, I'm about to leave them all for 4 days for vacation with DH. We've only done one other kid-free trip that is more than an overnight, and this will be the longest one.

We've had many a wedding though, so the kids stay with my parents or ILs on a pretty regular basis for one night at a time.

Reed took Katie to Pittsburgh for a weekend and that was really nice! I had two nights all to myself. We've both been away from her for a night at a time and once we were away for two nights for a friend's wedding.

From both of them, 5 days when I went on a trip for work last summer. I was away from Joe for 7 days when I took Frances to NJ in May.

I was away for about a week and a half when I had Rebecca (I was in the hospital with pre-eclampsia for a week before, and then another 3 days after the c-section). And I left them both with DH for a week when I came back to IL on an interview trip. And I was away from them for about 4-5 days when we moved here- they stayed with DH and MIL in Chicago while I came down here and got the house ready. Other than that...just a couple of weekend trips, once by myself, and once with DH (although, for that one, I was pregnant with Rebecca, so I was only getting away from one of the kids ;) )

I was away from Austin for about 5 weeks for my first round of chemo.
My second round was about 7 days. Then my last round was about 3 or 4 weeks.
He came to see me 2x but I was really sick. It was to hard on me to say Good Bye plus it was a 2 hour drive to and from the hospital. Thank God he was to little to remember!!

I'm not counting the times I was in the hospital having Courtney and Tatum, b/c the girls came to see me every day... I've only been away one time, for a work trip to Texas. I was gone one night.

Um like almost never. I was gone on a business trip for two days when Caleb was three months old. Then last fall we were gone overnight to a wedding (left them at five and picked them up at 9 AM). That's it. :bawl:

7 weeks this summer while in the hospital :bawl: Although they would come see me on the weekends it was only for a few hours at a time and because of it Maggie is Miss Clingy now. :(

I've been away from Maggie several times, both for interviews and when I took the boards. Longest was 3 nights I think, and that was when she was about a month old! Van and I have only spend one night alone without her, last August when we went to a wedding. We need a vacation!

Well, I've been away from my kids quite a bit. Not really by choice. My IL's live in Colorado and like to have the kids for a bit during the summer. I tried fighting it, but the pressure was too much. So, the longest I've been from my son is for two weeks this past July and my daughter for one week. It was way too long for me. :(

I was away from Sarah for three nights for the scrap retreat. We were both away from her one night just a few weeks ago. We had her spend the night at my parents' house to see how she'd do overnight since we're planning to take a long weekend in September for our anniversary. She did great, so we'll be away from her for three nights together.

I was never away from Nikita for more than 3-4 hours when I go to my business meetings or business appointments and daddy watches him :) Of course, he is only 8 months now :)

The most I have been away from my kids have just been over night trips with the babysitter or at my best friends...maybe a weekend. For DH, he travels for work so he's gone a lot. Right now he's in WI and I'm in OH due to my mom's illness. We'll most likely will be here until Christmas so he'll be doing traveling back and forth. And for both of us to be gone from them was last month when we went to WI to look for houses up there.
