...(I hear you now)
I just can't stay inside all day
I gotta get out get me some of those rays
everybody's smilin'
sunshine day
everybody's laughin'
sunshine day
everybody seems so happy today
it's a sunshine day

I thought I'd channel some Brady Bunch for our weekend posting party.

And if you're not old enough to know that song, please don't rub it in, mmkay? :tongue2:

What's up this weekend, people? Big plans? No plans?

What are you most looking forward to right now?

I'm old enough.

This weekend we have a birthday party for a 2yo and I have a baby shower to go to on Sunday. And we have to finish getting Maggie ready for her first day of school on Monday.

Thaaaannks. That'll be in my head for a while.

My favorite aunt and uncle are in town to help my aunt's brother. We'll see them Sunday. Until then I want to get a haircut. (I need to get off my arse and call them.) I also need to get Maia a leotard. She starts dancing Monday. I've looked at many places for leotards, and I haven't found one I like yet... except at the expensive place. So it looks like I'll need to buy that one.

Right now, I'm most looking forward to... This answer doesn't have to be based in reality, does it?... If not, I'm looking forward to Brad taking both kids somewhere and letting me veg at the house alone. I'm never alone here these days.

If it does have to be based in reality... I'm looking forward to school starting. Then I guess I could come home and have a moment of peace at the house alone, huh? Oooh, that'll be nice.

For my favorite Brady sound ever click on Music 12, the UFO whistle.

This weekend we're not doing too much, although Sunday we have a meet and greet picnic with the other parents and kids from Caleb's new preschool. I feel nervous about that because I hate mingling and I don't have anything good to wear. Plus it's going to be too hot. :dead:

What am I looking forward to most right now? http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/spezial/jasons_smilie/wacko.gif Gee, I'm just honored you'd ask. Gosh, I feel all warm and squishy inside now. But I can't think of anything. So thanks for rubbing that in. Click Trombone for "wa wa waaah" sound.

Yup, that song is stuck in my head now too! (and I'm old enough to remember)

This weekend we have a bunch of stuff going on. Scott is off next week, so this is the beginning of our vacation. Tonight, we are going to Kid's Night in the town common. They have a bouncy house, and a bunch of kiddie rides. Tomorrow, Jackson and I are spending some "Mommy and Jackson alone time" at a local park/beach with one of his friends and her mother. We might do dinner on the beach Saturday night. Sunday we are going to "Touch a Truck" it is part of my town's Heritage Days (so is Kid's Night), and I know Jackson will get a bang out of it. I'm sure we'll have our usual dinner with my Dad on Sunday night.

I went out last night and had a martini and I have had a headache all day...this sucks!

Right now I'm looking forward to school starting too, and to going back to work. I feel like I have too much free time, and too little structure in my days and it is really hard to keep Jackson busy and happy lately. Once school starts he'll have that 2 mornings a week, and his other activities (swimming and gym class) start up again. Once I go back to work I have a babysitter coming once a week so I get some alone time.

Ear worms! Gaaaaah! :silly:

Not much here. Things are sort of up in the air because we just learned yesterday that FIL's colon cancer has returned. :( (he had surgery back in Feb. '05 to remove the first round) So we're waiting to hear when surgery will be, figuring out if just James will go, or all of us. Of course, this puts a crimp in the rest of the plans because my parents want to take Caroline to the beach next week, but James doesn't want her being that far away if something happens in NY (like she'd be able to do anything about it? He's not thinking too clearly. :dunno: ).

But Caroline and I treated ourselves to some Old Navy shopping and lunch out to celebrate the last day of summer camp. :heee:

My evening will now include dinner out... with DH's coworkers. The company is taking the employees out and also inviting family. So, as of this morning I found out that after work I'll pick up Anya at daycare, feed her, and drive to this place. Where I'll probably arrive during or after dinner. (they're meeting at 5:30 / 5:45 and I'll prob get there around 7)

Hopefully we'll get home early enough to give her a bath before busy tomorrow starts.

Now I'm gonna have that song in my mind all day. Thanks

I thought of something else I'm looking forward to... cleaning my craft area. It means I'll get some time to sit back there guilt-free.

Ooh, just thought of another. I am looking forward to Maia's growing out of this teenager-inside-of-a-4-year-old-body thing. I'm just sooooo over it. She's so nasty to us sometimes. If you have knowledge that some kids never leave this phase, please don't share that with me right now, mkay? Thanks.

Different news for you, Stace - I heard that whatever problems you have with your child now are an early preview of the problems when they are a teenager. So if it's smart-mouthing, fastforward to 14 when she says I hate you. If it's defiance, magnify that to when she has house keys and access to a car. Enough to make me want to hide under the bed starting NOW.

Stacey
August 11th, 2006, 02:07 PM
Anne, I can completely see Maia being this way as a teenager. It wouldn't take a very savvy imagination to foresee that. She honestly looks and talks like one now. I figure it's payback though. I was a pretty snotty teen at times. (Of course IMO that was only with my dad who was and is a big jerk, but I had the ability to be super snotty nonetheless.)

I did think it was funny that you said "fastforward to 14 when she says 'I hate you'" though. About six months ago, we were upstairs and I calmly told Maia to come talk to me after she'd hit Cole. She freaked, then threw her hands on her hips and dramatically yelled, "You ruined my life!" So tell me, how well does that bode for me in the future? When she did it, I had to turn around and laugh. It was just so ridiculous. She's very mouthy for sure.

Cole will be worrying me with the physical stunts he tries to pull off when he's a teen, just like he worries me now. I already figured that he'd be that way his whole life. I'm just setting myself up now for the news that he's going to be a stuntman so he can worry me like that forever. ;)

I'm old enough to remember, but I don't seem to know it (and please don't feel that you need to show it to me! ). It is supposed to be dry and semi-cool (under 90) this weekend, so I'm excited about that. I've finished the big portions of my week's homework but I have a large project looming. Hopefully I'll have some time to put that together so I can be done with this class early.

Lastly, my only other real plan for the weekend is to keep encouraging Katie to poop on the potty. She got it once so we've made one big step.

Let's check them into the convent school together. Caroline's new favorite line is "uh, HELLO, did you not hear when I said xyz?" It's a tough struggle between laughing or, well, doing something considerably less funny.

OMG, Anne. Maia says "Umm, can you not hear me?" Of course this can only be said if she has a look on her face that indicates that she thinks that you're completely incompetent.

They're closed early for confession today, but I'll check in with St. Rita of the Holy Bingo on Monday. :lol2:

And yes, it's a requirement to have that "you're so stupid you can barely manage to breathe" look. That's the one that makes me want to lock her away. That, or laughing when we tell her something. That drives James around the bend.

Lastly, my only other real plan for the weekend is to keep encouraging Katie to poop on the potty. She got it once so we've made one big step.

This made me laugh! Did you ever imagine, say 5 years ago, that this would be your plan for the weekend?

I think that is also going to be part of my plans for the weekend too. Jackson told me today that he wanted to poop in the potty so the poop wouldn't hurt his bum. :dunno: We'll see how that goes!

After reading Stacey and Anne's posts, I fear for my future. I was a total snot as a teenager...

You can add Alyssa to that list. She started saying DUH..."Duh mom, I want to go to school 5 days like Tylor"

Tonight it looks like we are staying in. Dan convinced me of a better day tomorrow so I figure I will give that to him. Maybe we will order a pizza!

Tomorrow We can sleep in :jump: Then we are going to take the kids to the Alumni Soccer game here in town where our friend Geoff is going to play :jump: Then we are taking the kids to dinner, to get soccer shorts for Tylor, a ball for Alyssa and Tennis shoes for Dan (notice I am not mentioned) and then take the kids to a movie :jump:!!!

Sunday we have church, Soccer pictures at 3, and then we are going to a cookout at my grandfathers at 5

Oh..and I am looking forward to next thursday, Friday, and the following tuesday through thursday. I don't have any extra kids other then my own and it will be so nice!!! I feel they have been jipped this summer because of me being a Nanny.

 Count me in as another who will be needing Our Lady of the Perpetual Science Test in 10 years or so (If I manage to last that long!). Maggie is big on the "duh!" and looking at me as though breathing just might be the extent of my talents. I swear some days that it is only for my ability to drive a car and cook dinner that they allow me to exist in this house. The other day, Maggie decided that I was too stoopid to understand what she was saying to me, so she started making up signs to get her point across to me. I asked what she was doing and she told me, Duh! I'm using sign language.

Tommorrow we are going to a BBQ at our friend's new house and Sunday David and I are going to see "The Phantom of the Opera". :woo: SIL is babysitting.

As for the title of this thread, can you send some sun this way? It is pretty gloomy here. :(

Lynn
August 11th, 2006, 03:50 PM
I remember the Brady Bunch song too. I might even know a dance move or two from the show as well. ;)

My ILs just left :woo: yesterday and my sister comes tonight. Our guest room has seen more action lately than ever!

And can I just add that I think it's hilarious how many "X days until ___ starts school" countdowns I see? What's that saying about all of us? :drink:

Yeah, no summer sun here today either. We were going to go to the State Fair, but decided smelly cows smell worse when they are steamy and soaking wet :dead:

And as someone who has a teenager, all I can say is "If you think it's bad now, just wait" Today I looked at Kaleb and said "Look. You don't have to be a smart ass. I can hear you just as much when you talk to me like I"m human as when you talk to me like I'm dirt"

Oh man, I'm sorry to laugh but you guys are cracking me up. I'm hoping that it's more of a girl thing, but Jackson has gotten a bit sassy lately, too. Nothing to the extent of your girls, thankfully. :errr:

No big weekend plans here, and looking forward to it. We've been entertaining guests since last Saturday, and even though they're pretty easy as far as guests go and are good at keeping the boys entertained, it will be nice to get back into our regular 'let it all hang' out gig.

What am I looking forward to? The exterminator coming on Tuesday! Die #$%^$ ants, die!!!

Everybody's laughing...sunshine day! It's been going through my head since I read this thread. I even left the office for a Starbucks and that didn't help!

I'm going to the pool this afternoon with my girlfriends for happy hour! Tonight Alex is having a sleepover at g'ma's. The Broncos have a pre-season game tonight (and DH will check out) so Dylan and I are heading to Wal-mart to exchange her new bathing suit. I'm playing golf tomorrow and going to a BBQ afterward.

Gah, just remembered, I have to do serious cleaning this weekend because we're having one of Caroline's school friends over for a playdate on Monday, and considering that their house was practically museum quality, I need to kill the dustbunnies and clean up the kitchen floor! (okay, did the kitchen floor already because Caroline is out with DH on his search for new tennis shoes, but still, more cleaning to come. And yet I don't want it to impinge on my hard-won free time! I'm such a :pig: )

:woo: Nichole!! Will you get to move out of the corridor along with your payrise?

It's early Saturday morning here. Like 6.30am early  I couldn't sleep so decided to get up and have some time on here and eat breakfast in peace, but Harry got up 2 minutes after I did!

We don't have any huge plans this weekend. Harry has tennis this morning and Emily has ballet. Irish dancing class isn't on b/c it's the State Championship competition this weekend, so I'm going to take Emily along to see some of her friends dancing. I also want to visit my friend who had her baby 5 weeks early on Thursday. He's in NICU so I don't know if I can see him or not. He had swelling on the brain and was having seizures as well as his lungs being underdeveloped, so I think he will be there for awhile :(

Oh and what am I looking forward to? Sam being toilet trained. Thought I'd share this story that I posted in my journal yesterday:

Sam is currently naked (as usual). I had him in t-shirt and undies as we are toilet training. First the undies disappeared, then the t-shirt. I heard him rummaging around in the kitchen drawer and he came out with the ice cream scooper. I didn't think he could do any harm with that, so left him. Next thing, I see him pouring liquid from the scooper onto Harry's lunch plate. I couldn't figure out where it was coming from as there weren't any drinks on the table. Then I saw what he was doing - yep, he was peeing into the scooper and emptying onto Harry's lunch!!!

I guess the only positive here is that I know he has bladder control if he can stop and start it like that!

Congrats, Nichole!!!

Good luck, Alyssa!!

And Becky, it makes me sick sick sick that pre-season football is on :complain: I had this vent the other night. It is still summer, for the love of pete. NO FOOTBALL!

And yes, it's a requirement to have that "you're so stupid you can barely manage to breathe" look.....That, or laughing when we tell her something....

There is a teenage girl down the street who permanantly wears that look and I want to walk up to her soooooo badly and tell her how much prettier she'd look if she'd stop looking so pissed off 24/7  And then I think to myself, "oh please don't let my daughter end up an angst ridden teen!"

And Aidan does that laughing at me bullshit, too. Drives. Me. Batty.
That, and his little teenage attitude that he cops w/ me. Bah! Little brat!

Whew! Now that I got that all out, we have a busy weekend.

Went to the State Fair today and smelled those cows Shel spoke of (nasty). Are now babysitting for our friends' daughter. Tomorrow afternoon we've got my nephew's 2nd b-day party. Should prove to be a lot of fun. [/sarcasm] Sunday, we've got my gramma's b-day party, and I am looking forward to that.

Oh - here is the best part. I've been sooper crabby lately and yesterday Chris took the kids to the park for an hour and he's got them all there now, as well. I  alone time.

:wavey: Good morning everyone!! well not so good, I have only had about 4 hours sleep (my girlfriend came over last night and we chatted, drank and laughed till about 3am this morning) so I am feeling pretty dusty.

I am in absolutely NO MOOD today and we are supposed to go to a combined 1st, 3rd and 30th birthday party at 3pm this arvo. I DON'T WANNA GO. quick help me figure out excuses to just send Tony. I LOVE the people who are throwing the party but there friends SUCK! the woman are stuck up bitches who talk about total shit and when you go to give your comments they don't even truly listen to you, they are just waiting to start talking again themselves. I tend to always end up being bored shitless and playing with the kids till I can convince Tony to go home. HELP ME! I need serious "backing out of" excuses!

Then I have a lovely day tomorrow of doing all the spreadsheets for my parents business to give to there accountant (I normally wouldn't have to do this till October) but they just bought a new apartment and they need to get a bridging loan till there house sells which means they need there financials for the last financial year done with the accountant which of course depends on me because I am there accounts person for their business :errr: can I say BORING!

Okay why I bothered to get out of bed I don't know! :lol2:

Nichole: :ura1: great news on the promotion, way to go girl! I agree with Clare's sentiments will you be moved from corridor box hell?

Alyssa: WTG, I hope one of these people actually BUY the place! fingers crossed for you

I also want to agree with everyone else getting the Sass from there kids, it's serious pay back time! I tell that to my parents all the time, karma has dealt me children who are doing EXACTLY what I did! but stoopid me had 3 of them! so it is X 3!! :errr:

Hmmm Nichole, they do sounds like good perks!

:ura1: Melissa, yay for poops in pottys! I have been having serious issues with Mr Riley doing that, he will wee on them no problems, and hasn't been in nappies for 4 weeks now, but the little bugger still hasn't pooped in a potty :blue: getting pretty sick of cleaning poopy undies! :puke:

Well I told Tony that I just don't want to go, I feel terrible about it but I just don't feel up to it, he complained because it meant that he can't drink if he goes!:angry2: I had to take a deep breath because I was about to explode that all I was to him is a designated driver, makes me WANT to go now and drink up a storm and make him be DD!!!!! He has now declared that he won't be going either so we are staying home, I feel terrible and don't have the heart to tell the kids we aren't going yet, (it was a dress up party for the kids and we got them supermen outfits for it) but I think instead we might dress them up like superman and take them down to the park to run around so they still feel like they had an adventure! I am feeling serious relief that I am not going to be subjected to those people! I will have to organise to drop over to the hosts house through the week to give the pressies we bought and then we can have a proper chat with out the stuck up bitches around :heee: Aren't I charming! http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_41.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxdm824YYAU)

Hi Ladies!

Im trying to figure out what Im going to do for dinner. Brad went out with a friend so I just made Genavieve a bowl of Easy Mac when we got home from daycare. Now she is in bed and my stomach was thinking of a BBQ Chicken Pizza out in the freezer..... BUT I can't find the key to the shed where the chest freezer is ANYWHERE. My suspicion is that it is in Brad's POCKET.

Doesn't do me and my growling stomach any good!!

We went to the drive-in movies on Wed night, swimming in our community pool yesterdayfor a couple of hours and to the water park today for 5hrs... so this weekend I just want to stay home!!!
Though I have a bunch of laundry to do, a couple of files to update for work, some grocery shopping to do and we have Ian's "meet the teacher" on Sunday between 12-2... right smack in the middle of the day

Oh yeah, I need to make sure I have everything ready for Ian starting in his little school on tuesday (2 days a week)... he likes it there but he's been going thru a little bit of separation anxiety so I only kind of-sorta looking forward to tuesday, hopefully he'll do better than I'm thinking or he will get over it in the first week :crossfing

Congrats Nichole!

Wehave had kind of a crappy night! We took Jackson out to Kid's Night and he had a ball, but was totally overstimulated and crazy when we got home. Scott tried to put him to bed, but it resulted in him freaking out. I went in to try and calm him down, and he puked all over his bed (including his kitty and his blanket that he can't sleep without). So I had to give him a bath, strip his bed, wash everything, make up his bed again etc. Fortunately he did fall asleep w/o kitty and blanket b/c I didn't want him waiting up for them.

So after all that I come down stairs and practically step in a huge pile of cat puke, then I pick Anna up and she puked all down the front of my shirt. So I've been cleaning up various types of puke all night!

The worse part is I missed my window to step out to the liquor store, so I didn't get the wine I was planning on having once everyone went to bed. :blue:

Sam is currently naked (as usual). I had him in t-shirt and undies as we are toilet training. First the undies disappeared, then the t-shirt. I heard him rummaging around in the kitchen drawer and he came out with the ice cream scooper. I didn't think he could do any harm with that, so left him. Next thing, I see him pouring liquid from the scooper onto Harry's lunch plate. I couldn't figure out where it was coming from as there weren't any drinks on the table. Then I saw what he was doing - yep, he was peeing into the scooper and emptying onto Harry's lunch!!! :eek:Oh. My. God. :jawdrop:

Well, the weather here has been wet and windy, the leaves are already turning colour and are falling, and I can smell autumn in the air. Good thing it is my favorite time of year ;)
We went out to a big field tonight and flew a kite out in the wind, it was great and it wore the kids right out! Claira became a little too tired and threw a few tantrums on the way home, she is out like a light now though. I'm tired too, but I really like having time to unwind at night by myself, so here I am.

Oh wow, Michal! I'm jealous. We have at least two more months of the hottest part of summer left here, and I'm already ready for fall. Maybe I should move to BC?

I'm sorry about the puketastic night, Michele. :hug99:

Our kitchen/bath tile is getting done today! :woo: (finally :blush1: x 1000  )

I don't know Nichole, can you handle alot of rain? I grew up here so I really like it. I can appreciate it because it keeps everything so here so green. I think it will probably start to warm up again before summer completely ends.

Did you ever use that paint on your bath (?) wall tile?

Ah, Fall. I can't wait! Although it has been so gorgeous here (current temp at 1:20 IS 71 degrees! LOVE IT!) these last few days. I'll take it!

Nothing special planned for today: tidying up the house, finally get that drywall job done in the kitchen so I can paint it, maybe a bike ride later

Sunday we have plans to go to the watermelon festival. Tons of free watermelon, stuff for kids and lots of crazy vendors.

Ah, it's been a fabulous day here. 78 degrees or so, sunny, lots of time outside. DH finally deigned to wake up at NOON (but he's very depressed about his dad, so I'm trying hard to be understanding). Tonight Caroline and her pal next door cooked up the idea of a "Princess Party" for only very special princesses, so we're going to make smores in their backyard and let the girls run around so that maybe we can ALL sleep late tomorrow.

Clare

Okay, I've seen smores mentioned a few times around here - what on earth are they?

Michal
August 12th, 2006, 08:20 PM
 I had smore's last night. They are toasted marshmallow and chocolate between two graham crackers, generally eaten by a camp fire.

LISA
August 13th, 2006, 08:30 AM
Never had smores myself, bought the necessary ingredients for Cass when she had her friends sleep over in the tent last month but never tried one myself :duh:

Not much on the agenda for today, except laundry :dead: and I have to work tonight:down: tomorrow we have to file a report with the insurance, our truck was broken into while on vacation  they stole dh's stereo, all the dvd movie's we had ( even 2 from the library! ) and there was an audio book disc in the player as well from the library..our vacation sucked big time  so glad to be home.

MrsPeacefrog
August 13th, 2006, 09:15 AM
:hug99: That sucks, Lisa.

Can the description of a smores be a little bit more involved, I am intrigued. So is the marshmellow put on a stick, toasted over a campfire then put into a "graham cracker" (not that I know what that is, but I am presuming a type of cracker  how is that for genius) and then eaten.. oh and where does the chocolate fit in?

Well it's Sunday night, (11pm to be exact) and my weekend is over, not a great deal happened here today other than laundry, playing with the kids, dropping off some paperwork at my parents and watching a few episodes of buffy from my disc collection. Tomorrow we are off to the solicitors to finalize the paperwork for our refinancing, I will be happy when all that is finished with! then I can come home and relax as the older boys are in daycare tomorrow and I will only have Jacob!

I hope you are all enjoying your final day of the weekend

Michele

Pretty much that's the idea behind s'mores Deb. You toast the marshmellow over a campfire on a stick, then you make a sandwich using the graham crackers as the bread - the marshmellow and chocolate (piece of a chocolate bar) are the filling. Graham crackers are more like cookies than crackers. They are sweet, although not really as sweet as a cookie. Anyway...smores are really good!

We had kind of a crazy night last night. Jackson would not go to sleep - and he'd been up since 6am with only a short nap. We tried for 2 hours then gave up. Eventually he fell asleep on the couch in the living room around 10:30pm. Anna was also asleep in her pack n play in the living room, so Scott and I decided that it would be easier for all of us to sleep in the living room than to get both of them upstairs w/o waking them up. So, we blew up our camping mattress and slept on that in the middle of the living room floor. I actually got a good night's sleep too!

Somehow, I thought EVERYONE knew what smores are!

Okay, let's see if I can break this down. I don't know how to explain graham crackers. It's like a cookie, but called a cracker. No clue why. Generally made into a rectangle, scored into 4 smaller pieces to be broken if desired. So first you prep your smores. Break the large rectangle graham cracker into two squares. Top one of the squares with two squares of a chocolate bar (generally Hersheys around here, but you use what you have). Hang on to the other graham cracker because that's going to become an important implement in just a second. Now stick your marshmellow on a stick and toast it to desired doneness. I like them lightly browned, DH likes them cinderized unto charcoal. While the marshmellow is still on the stick, lay it on top of the chocolate pieces on the graham cracker. Use the other graham cracker side to press down on the marshmellow while you pull the stick out, thus ensuring that the gooey hot inside of the marshmellow helps melt the chocolate. So now your sandwich looks like graham cracker-marshmellow goo-chocolate-graham cracker, yes? Pick it up, take a big bite, enjoy, repeat.

OH MY, SOUNDS SO GOOD!!!!

I have seen on a cooking show them do something similar with marshmellows chocolate and cookies but they put it in the oven as a combined thing...

And now the whole chocolate part makes sense, I was wondering how you melted that part of it, but the hot marshmellow makes perfect sense! I am now on a mission to find Graham Crackers on the internet so I can see what they look like, we definatley do not have them here.

aahh OK, yeah we definately don't have them here...

But I had to share, when I did a search for Graham crackers in wikipedia it came up with the most interesting description! I will bold the part I found fascinating! :heee:

The graham cracker was developed in nineteenth century (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nineteenth_century) America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) by Presbyterian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presbyterian) minister Rev. Sylvester Graham (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvester_Graham). Conceived of as a "health food (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_food)", it is more like a digestive biscuit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digestive_biscuit) than a cracker (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cracker_%28food%29). Though originally made solely with graham flour (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graham_flour), most modern "graham crackers" contain no graham flour at all and are instead made mostly of the refined, bleached white flour (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_flour) to which the Rev. Graham was implacably opposed.

His original "Graham bread" was the centerpiece of the diet he created (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Graham_Diet) to suppress what he considered unhealthy carnal urges, the source of many maladies according to Graham. He also warned that ketchup (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketchup) and mustard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culinary_mustard) induced insanity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mental_illness). He gained many followers and even set up boardinghouses, where his diet was observed, in New York (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York), Boston (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston) and other cities.

Graham crackers are no longer considered health food, but have remained popular as a snack food (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snack_food) with greater amounts of sugar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar), honey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honey) and other sweeteners than in the original recipe. Cinnamon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinnamon) is added to enhance the flavor of the crackers.

Graham crackers have themselves become ingredients for other snack foods, including moon pies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_pie) and S'mores (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%27more), and are often crushed for use as crusts in some baked goods.

Lisa, sorry to hear about your vacation & your truck :hug99:

Oh Deb, my mouth is watering now :lick: That's some interesting info about graham crackers

We all got up early so besides feeding the kiddos I have already clean the kitchen floor, clean the downstairs bathroom, change a couple of loads of laundry and it's only 10:15am
We're gonna go get showered & changed now since after lunch we're going to the open house for Ian's little MDO program, we already know the teacher, Eliot was in her class one year and I was a sub a few times in her room last year, but we wanted to show Ian where he's gonna go play so come tuesday hopefully he won't freak out too much.

We had an interesting night. We finally got some rain but it came with a lot of drama  Lighting, strong wind, thunder and our electricity went out right when I was getting ready to do dinner. Thankfully we were gonna grill some steaks so my hubby just threw the corn on the cob & onion rings on the grill too and I made a salad. It was a pretty darn good dinner for not having a stove/microwave/oven and it felt like camping eating with the lantern on the table  The boys & I ended up sleeping in the living room since we didn't know how long we were gonna be without electricity and the upstairs was starting to get warmer. Electricity came back in the middle of the night, I could've taken the kids up to their beds and gone myself to my bed too but I was afraid the kids would be dissapointed to wake up in their beds instead of on our "camping" bed

Somebody stop me! :yapper: :shuffle:

UGH, my husband is an IDIOT! I'm so furious right now I could scream. He's angry because I put up our flag outside (he's obsessed that it's going to damage the house somehow, what if the bracket snaps, blahblahblah) and says how could I do that, knowing how much other stuff he's worried about right now. I understand that he's worried about his father, but he has barely spoken to us in two days so I said instead of worrying about the flag, he should worry about important stuff like emotionally removing himself from his family to satisfy his own wallowing. So he stormed off to go for a ride.

Sorry, Anne. :bighug: Sounds like he's going through a rough time. :(

Those s'mores look sooooooooo good! And coconut flavored marshmallows? I've never heard of those. The chocolate flavored graham crackers are mighty tasty with s'mores, too. I also like to use Special Dark chocolate bars on mine. It's all about the chocolate. :lick:

Anne, I'm sorry James is going through a rough time and being such a butt about it. What is it about people sometimes that they refuse to go to people for help? Rob does it sometimes and then he is amazed how much better he feels when he talks to me about something bugging him.

I can't believe you guys don't have graham crackers in Australia! I think they even sell pre-made microwave s'mores around here. :dunno:

Thanks Mary and Deb ya, it sucks!

Ok enough with the smores !:lick: I can't have it at all on SB  and I was so bad while on vacation I don't dare try to sneak one in before restarting( again!) tomorrow.

I just tried to call Cass who is now in Amsterdam, no answer in her room it's almost 10pm there..her aunt and uncle said they were going to tour the red light district   there is an actual tour given by a retired prostitute :duh:

Well, I think i'll throw the clothes in the dryer and go for a walk at the boardwalk :wavey:

I love those Ritz bits s'mores. And real s'mores with chocolate grahams and dark chocolate too. Mmm.

Deb, graham crackers are sweeter and tastier than digestive biscuits.

Anne, sorry James is being a poophead. Sounds like he was just looking for something to go off on. It's hard when you know you want to sympathize, but there's a limit to how poopy someone can act to his/her family.

Well I'm glad for the explanation of graham crackers, I assumed that they were savoury crackers and I couldn't fathom the idea of melted chocolate and marsmallow on a savoury cracker! I love sweets, but I'm still not sold on the smore :dunno: Maybe b/c I'm not a big marshmallow fan :dunno:

Alrighty then Clare, now it's your turn for an explanation - what on earth is a savoury cracker? Does it taste like meat?

DH is still a butt. He's working his hardest to speak as few words as possible because I "just keep adding to his worries, and don't give a damn about all that he has on his mind." Hello, if you have that much on your mind, the flag I hung up outside is the LEAST of your worries, so get over yourself!

Clare
August 13th, 2006, 10:32 PM
 I know I mentioned savoury on here before and befuddled most of you. Savoury is the opposite of sweet. Do you have another word for it?

From wikipedia:

The word savoury or savory has a number of meanings:

Savory (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savory_%28herb%29) for the herb of the genus Satureja, commonly used to flavor beans and turkey stuffing
Savory (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basic_taste#Savouriness) (also called umami in Japanese) for the taste sensation produced by the free glutamates commonly found in fermented and aged foods. It is considered the fifth primary taste (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taste) sensibility in Japan.
The British (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Britain) and Commonwealth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Commonwealth) countries use the term as an adjective to refer to courses in a meal that are not sweet. For example, in their view, American bread is considered too sweet; it should be savoury instead, for courses should alternate between sweet and savoury.
