Do you wish on falling stars?
Do you throw salt over your shoulder after you spill it?
Do you cross yourself (Sign of the Cross) if you want something to go your way (sorry not trying to be offensive with that one)?

'Splain pleez.

I knock on wood if I think I've said something that could be a jinx.

I can't think of anything else right now.

I also knock on wood :)

I don't throw salt over my shoulder for luck (a la Rachel Ray  ), nor do I wish on falling stars. I have, on occasion, done "Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight...." :heee:

Nope, not at all. I don't believe in that stuff. :dunno:

Every once in a while I will say "knock on wood", but that's more out of habit than a true feeling for it, kwim?

I do the Knock on wood and I also do the Star light Star brite. I have done that since I was Alyssa's age. I don't know how much I believe in it but sometimes a little magic feeling in my life is fun

My parents were very superstitious and a lot of it has stuck with me, even though I don't believe it :dunno: Knock on wood, don't put new shoes on the table, don't put umbrellas up in the house, don't walk under ladders etc.

I'm not superstitious about a lot of things... umbrellas in the house, walking under ladders... but I can't resist tossing the salt if I spill. I always wish on stars, I always (too many years of die hard church going) cross myself if something good comes out of a stressful situation (and I'm totally a heathen), I cross my fingers for luck... Hmm, what else? Oh yeah, I always knock on wood!

Why do I do this? I don't know why!

Never heard the new shoes one, Clare.

But yes, I am superstitious. And I don't know why. I always knock on wood. I yell at the kids if they try to open an umbrella in the house, and I stare in horror if I see someone do it...thinking about it now, I guess I feel like it's practically breaking the law. What I'm really embarrassed to admit is that even in my non-practicing, anti-Catholic state, I feel compelled to bless myself more than I care to admit. :shuffle:

hmm I can't say I really am. I have one slight hang up from my childhood of not being able to cut through and touch the base when cutting a birthday cake or else your "blowing out candle wishes" won't come true

I do heavily believe in Karma though so I do live my life with the karmic balance weighing on my mind helping me make decisions.

A bit- I've got the umbrella thing too, Alyssa :)

And I knock on wood. A lot of my superstitions started in med school and residency. People on call are often a superstitious bunch, with regards to what they do or don't do to put the black cloud or white cloud over their head :)

I don't care about umbrellas in the house, walking under ladders (you'd have to take pains to do it though). I actually like when a black cat crosses my path.

I do have one big hang up though...it's wishing on my eyelashes if one falls out. I'm freaky about it. I have to do it, I'll even look for the lash if I drop it. I've no idea where that came from. My kids even do it now. Close your eyes, make a wish, and blow.

I also hate breaking a mirror and it's happened at least once every 7 years. I'm always bummed out when it happens.

I think it's an Irish one. The only other person I know (apart from my family) who knows it also has Irish parents.

I don't bless myself often but I do if I'm ever in a scary situation.

Well in basic terms I heavily believe in karma, do something good something good happens to you, do something bad, something bad will happen to you. So I try to live my life that way knowing that a bad deed will bite me in the ass

Deb I am the same way. I believe that what you do comes back to you.
