What did you want to be when you "grew up"? :) How about when you were in high school?

When I was really young (5 or 6 maybe) I wanted to be a toll booth collector! I thought you could just set up a toll where ever you wanted and keep all the money. It seemed like an easy way to make money to me!
Later, I wanted to be a professional dancer/choreographer.
In high school I wanted to be a pediatrician. I actually went to college with a Pre-Med major, but was quickly weeded out. I eventually ended up with a history degree.

Growing up, I always wanted to be a teacher. I think everyone does at one point  Then a pediatrician, then a lawyer.
In high school, I wanted to either be a social worker or a lawyer. When I was looking at colleges it was for social work and then at the last second, I switched to law.

In 6th grade I wanted to be a vet. In high school I decided I wanted to be an accountant and that's what my degree is in as well.

For as long as I can remember I wanted to be a teacher. I went to college for elementary education and pre-school education.

When I was real young, 5-6 years old, I wanted to be a vet or an astronaut. As I got older I had no idea what I wanted to be, still don't. I ended up getting my degrees in mechanical and biomedical engineering though.

Growing up, I wanted to be a graphic artist (my uncle is the VP of a graphic arts business and would often have my art printed for me and once even used it in an ad. I always thought that was so freakin' cool.). When I was in high school, I wanted to be a lawyer. I went to college for pre-law (aka, general studies  ), and then changed my mind several times before I ended up with a degree in education and later, a masters in business.

In 4th grade, I wanted to be a swim teacher. We had a draw a picture of ourselves in our future career, which the teacher put on the wall for parents' night. During the rest of grade school, I wanted to be a vet.
In high school, I decided I liked psychology so I decided to major in that in college. When I had to do practicums in counseling, I realized I didn't have the patience for that. But I found out there were other kinds of psychology so I went on and got a masters in psych and statistics.

I wanted to be a teacher as long as I can remember. I even had my stuffed animals in "school." They sat on little chairs, etc... Anyway, thats what I went to college for, taught for four years and I'm going back to it in 2008!

Oh- too many things to remember :)
I wanted to be a doctor at various points when I was little, but didn't decide to be until college. And at other points, I wanted to be a teacher, a writer, an architect, a scientist...

When I was really little, I wanted to be a teacher or a secretary (and THIS is the one that came true! ) In middle school when I started taking a foreign language, I wanted to be a translator for the UN - sounded like the most glamorous thing in the world, until I realize that they only hire native speakers. I was crushed. Then in high school I wanted to be a museum curator.

I can't recall wanting to be anything specific when I was very young.
The first thing I remember wanting to be was a corporate psychologist. Someone told me that they designed office spaces that helped people work more efficiently and studied the effect of color on people's mood, etc. I don't even know if that's true but I thought it would be fun and interesting.
I would love do something with interior decorating but not enough to go back to college. I did look into design school at one point and when I found out how much math was involved it turned me off. Math is not my friend and I'd prefer to do something more creative.

When I was a child i wanted to be a teacher...specifically a kindergarden teacher.
In high school, I jumped around with ideas (vet, interior designer. real estate agent, concert pianist :screwy: ). Then I settled on wanted to become a pediatrician. I went into science and did my BSc. in Biology and then decided instead to go to Nursing School and became an RN.

I wanted to own a restaurant that served nothing but macaroni and cheese. It had to be Kraft brand of course!
My mom still teases me that I never truly reached my potential.

There is industrial psychology or human factors and ergnomics where you can do stuff like that.

When I was little, I wanted to be a vet. As I got older I found out that vets have to do surgery on animals and cut them open, so that quickly changed my mind!! (have NEVER been good with blood).
When I was in high school, I wanted to be a high school math teacher. Math always came very easy to me. My last 2 years of high school I was taking like 3 or 4 math classes.
Unfortunately, when I got to college, I got a little burned out on the whole school thing and was in a hurry to get a "real job" and get out in the "real world". So I never finished college. I don't regret it though. If I didn't do that I would have never met my DH and I wouldn't have Dugan and Isabelle today! Everything happens for a reason!

When I was 3 I wanted to be a hairdresser, unfortunately the cut I gave myself only made my Dad cry, and people point and stare. Then when I was 7 I decided I was going to be a Bullrider, when I was 13 I tried Jr. Steer which is the first step to a bullriding career off the farm. After my first and only amatuer rodeo debut, I decided that my dad was right and I should stick with barrelracing for a sport. A horse does try to kill you when you get knocked to the ground! When I was 16 I was going to be an actress on Stage and I even had an audition with NTAS but that didnt work out cause I'm an airhead and wrote my audition time down wrong. After acting was a forensic pathologist but I hated physics even though I loved chem and Bio. Then I took a year off to make money for school and never went back. I still dont know what I want to do when I grow up, I think the plan right now is just SAHM for a few years.
BunyBomb-My DH would have totally dined at your restraunt! He once told me that the best restruant would serve KD and bach. foods!

I always wanted to be an Air Hostess (very unPC to call them that now). Then, when the Love Boat was my favourite show, a Cruise Director. Julie McCoy was my hero! Funnily enough, I did end up working for Princess Cruises, only in the office, not on the ships. The first time I went onboard Pacific Princess though, I nearly peed my pants with excitement! I also started the process of becoming a Flight Attendant with Qantas but I missed out at the final stage (after many interviews) b/c I didn't speak a second language.
In high school I wanted to work in radio. Not a DJ/announcer, more behind the scenes like a producer. I did work experience at several radio stations and really enjoyed it, but the course was quite expensive and I ended up studying travel and tourism instead.

I flirted with a few ideas. I wanted to be a teacher, a cruise director (Love Boat for me too! ) and few other assorted things. A girl I went to school with wanted to be a stripper when she was in the 6th grade. I kid you not. Her mom must have been sooooo proud.

When I was really yong, I wanted to be a flight attendant. I also have an "All about me" book where I said that I wanted to be "a teacher so I could show them scary things." I also wanted to be a mom with a whole "flock" of children.
In high school, I toyed with a few ideas - speech therapy, social work primarily. Once in university, I considered a masters in Social Work or Marriage and Family Counselling.
Now I'm considering photography. :)

When I was four or five I dreamed of being a nurse by day, then at the end of the day I'd change into my ballerina outfit with an enormous tutu and pirhouette down the street. :)
After that I wanted to be a doctor, then in High School I set my sites on Meteorology, with Journalism as a second choice and Geology in third. Weird then, weird now.
Now I dream of being a lottery winner.

When I was little I wanted to be a ballerina or a teacher or a dance teacher (way to combine careers, huh?).
In high school I wanted to be a dance teacher, but also thought about occupational therapy and special ed.
In college, I didn't make the dance major, failed a weed-out course for the OT program, and majored in Computer Information Systems. :dunno:
Although what I do now is something I always wanted to do. Be a SAHM!

Being a doctor has always been on my radar screen. I also thought about being a paleontologist (ya know, dig up dinosaur bones!), a teacher, etc.

When I was little I wanted to be a nurse, by early highschool I wanted to be a flight attendant and travel to exotic places, Then by late highschool I wanted to be either a police officer or paramedic, I did start heading in the direction of paramedic but my stupid rebel years took over and I lost my way.

Journalist/writer was always high on the list. Still is, sometimes.
I wanted to be a vet for a long time. I worked in vets' offices for about 6 years and started taking classes to get into vet school. But at one point, I looked around and realized that all the vets I knew were underpaid, overworked, not very well respected by their clients and generally miserable. So that was the end of that.

Oh boy....what didn't I want to be is the question...
Well, first was a ballerina. :princess: Then, when I was 7....my mom spent a lot of time at the employment office and I tagged along and read a lot of pamphlets. One day, an older lady asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I told her Cocktail Waitress! :dude: Why, you ask? Because they got to wear really cool dresses. Oh, to be a child in the 70's.
Later, it was a pathologist (thanks Quincy), a vet, flight attendant (I worked for an airline for 3 years right out of high school), UN worker, jazz vocalist, pro dancer (I was a go-go dancer in a nightclub in Houston for 2 whole months!).
I finally went to college to try and figure it all out. I majored in zoology and minored in anthro. :) My intention was to be an animal behaviourist and work with an organization that helps companion animals, like the Delta Society or the Humane Society. I also thought about being a biology teacher in either high school or jr. high.
Now, I'm just happy to be a good person and work some job where I like the environment. So....I'm a bank teller!! :lol2: My primary career goal is right up there with Bridget's - lotto winner!
If I could, I would get an MLS and be either a research or science librarian. :) I don't want it badly enough right now though......

Wow Sheila, we have something in common. I was pre-veterinary until my junior year of college. I changed my mind for the same reasons you did, plus my room mate's dog got hit by a car and I realized I couldn't deal with that kind of stuff.
When I was little, I wanted to be an astronaut. Even younger than that, it was teacher or secretary (we're alike too, Anne! ).
I'm still trying to figure out what I really want to be when I grow up. I keep hoping I'll stumble upon it.
