Sam (2yrs 9mths) is great at using the toilet only when he is naked from the waist down. If he has any kind of pants on - underpants, nappy (diaper), pull-up - he just pees in them. Anyone else deal with this problem? Any advice on how to get past this? He's ready to be trained b/c he tells me as soon as he goes in his nappy and wants it changed. And when he's naked, he uses the toilet by himself, without any help or reminders from me. But I can't let him be naked forever. :dunno:

Hmm. I don't know Clare. After a few days of NBC Caleb got "sick" of being naked and insisted on wearing underwear/pants. He peed himself a number of times with UW but eventually he got over the hump (just took a few days). Just keep trying? I've only been through this once so I stink at helping.

Well this is my 3rd time and I still don't have a clue  The other two never did this though :dunno:

Clare, Ian is doing the same thing than Sam  I'm hoping that the more he gets used to going in the potty the better he will get at telling me when he has something on, after all I can't send/take him to school/playgroup naked!! :noqueno:
I just keep on trying to remind him to let me know when he needs to go potty when he's wearing underwear or a pull-up, I'm just concerned that when he starts his little school he will take a step back on the potty training since he'll have to wear pull-ups when he's there :shuffle:
Sorry, I guess I'm not a lot of help but just wanted to let you know that I feel your pain :bighug:

Sorry Clare.....I can't help you either. :dunno: Alex doesn't want to wear diapers.....or use the potty! :tearhair: He does want to wear underpants...but again, he doesn't want to use the potty at all. I haven't tried just being naked altogether.....I'm too skeered.

Does Sam just not care if he's sitting in pee-soaked clothes? :dead:

Yes he does. He wants them off straight away. I just don't know how to make him go to the toilet when he's clothed :dunno: It's like if he has anything touching him, he thinks he can pee in it.

Maybe persistence is the key. This is the 3rd or 4th time that we've tried potty training. He's always great when he's naked but I've given up each time b/c he doesn't get it when he's clothed.

I'm having the same problem with Jakob. He is 2 and 9.5 months. I remember Sean was not potty trained (#2) until 2 weeks past his 3rd bday. Dr. told me when he turned 3, to not change his diaper, or chenge his wet clothes. When he needed a diaper change, I put him in the bathtub, gave him the wipes, etc. showed him what to do and told him to call me when he was done. I was always outside the door. It took about 2 weeks to have him completely trained.

Hang in there!

:hug99: it's annoying isn't it! Riley is really good with it, we are on week 3 of our potty training and Riley is very similar to Sam in the sense that when he has undies on he tends to have more accidents. I did find what helps is reinforcing that if he goes potty he will get a reward. (I do stickers and let him chose which one he gets) I give two stickers for poo's in the potty. :dunno: might help??

Katie was doing something similar but she's finally gotten the hang of it. We still had an accident yesterday but she caught it before she let everything go. We're in our second week of underwear.

Now if I could get her to poop in the potty, she'll be completely trained!

I think its easier to feel the urge to go when they are naked..so he may not understand/feel the urge yet when he has clothes on. I waited and tried again in a few months and he was fine..
