Kaden is 6 months old and we are still burping him. I figure as long as he's spitting up I should continue to burp him. Am I right? I just can't remember when we quit burping Olivia. When should I stop burping him?

View Full Version : How old was your baby when you quit burping after a feeding? mcox July 31st, 2006, 10:55 PM Kaden is 6 months old and we are still burping him. TtownAnne July 31st, 2006, 10:57 PM I burped Caroline *forever* because like Kaden, she was a spit-upper. Somehow the burping seemed to help control it, or get it over with quicker so I could catch it in a burp cloth instead of letting her go play and then having it come up on the carpet. She had to have been nearly a year old, I think... Chantal July 31st, 2006, 11:36 PM I was told that once they can sit up on their own - you dont need to burp them anymore. Now, that being said - neither of my girls are *spitter-uppers*. So I dont know if you have to continue burping them after they are able to sit up unsupported. Irish Luck July 31st, 2006, 11:55 PM Erin is six months old and suffers from reflux, I go back and forth about burping her not, some days she brings it up on her own, other days she needs help. Sorry not much help! MrsPeacefrog August 1st, 2006, 12:49 AM I just naturally burp my babies after a BF, Jacob is 11 months old and I still burp him, mind you it's a matter of a few pats and out it comes, if I had to work for it I probably wouldn't bother :dunno: Clare August 1st, 2006, 02:11 AM I never really burped my babies :dunno: I'd put them up on my shoulder after a breastfeed if they were still awake (rare) occasionally a burp would come out, but I never actively burped them. gulp! August 1st, 2006, 12:59 PM Both my kids were big spitters, too, but even so I think I probably stopped around 8 months or so? I can't really remember, but it was definitely after 6 months but before a year. Nocona August 1st, 2006, 03:04 PM I think around the time they could sit up well (and would burp themselves  ). So 5-6 months  Matthew was a spitter and Sara wasn't so I don't recall that having any stake in the matter. Neither were easy burpers. Lyoshka August 9th, 2006, 12:54 AM Nikita was never a big spitter....he got us both good once (as in, change your clothes and wash off your arms kind of a deal), but other than that, he spat up maybe 10-15 times total in 8 months now... I think we stopped burping him at maybe about 3 months or so? I don't remember now.. He usually gets one out on his own, must have inherited that from Daddy (UGH! LOL).. |
