Alexis' arm pits stink! She has major body odor there. I don't notice it on her if I'm just walking by, but if I'm cuddling with her or something, I can smell it and it's very strong! It's obviously better after a bath, but it still creeps back afer just a bit.

Is there anything I can (or should?) do for this? Is she too young for deodorant? Should we just ignore it and try to keep her arm pits as clean as possible? I've never heard of a young child having BO like this before. Ty certainly never did.

What do you think?

Wow! I thought you didn't get BO until you hit puberty. :dunno:

Sorry Karly....I don't have any advice for you...just a :hug99:

I'm not sure if I'm right about this but I *think* the aluminum in deodorant might not be good for her at such a young age. But maybe one of those natural ones might help?

How about some powder applied under her arms?

That is odd, I thought it was a puberty thing too. Have you googled it?

I found this: ( I don't want to scare you and suggest that she's not well, but maybe it is worth mentioning to your ped)

At what age should my child begin using a deodorant?
This is a decision only the parents can and should make. If the child is very young (10 years or younger) and doesn't participant in vigorous sports, it would be wise for the parents to bring the matter to the attention of their family physician. There are metabolic diseases in which "body odor" is a symptom. These conditions require immediate medical attention. Otherwise, if an older child, active in sports, exhibits a body odor following excessive or prolonged exercise either a deodorant and odor-masking product can be used as needed.

Have you considered those crystal ones? They stop the odor, but don't have the harmful ingredients. They do nothing for sweating, but that shouldn't be an issue.

I'm going to go with Clare and say you should mention it to your Ped...I have never heard of someone that young having it where its that noticeable..Worth it to check out, I know it varies for every child..

Josh is 8 and we started noticing it a little bit last fall...but its not horrible...

Austin is closer to Ty's age and I haven't smelled anything on him yet...

How old is she? I was also going to suggest the salt crystal deodorant. Maybe also an antibacterial soap?

I agree with Clare and Kara. Better safe than sorry. Let the Doc tell you it's nothing. :)

Melissa - she's 2.5 years old.

Thanks for the ideas, ladies. She is a very active child so that may be part of it, I supposed, but the strange thing is that Ty never had this issue. I even stuck my nose right in his pits tonight to check and there was no smell at all after a 100 degree day.

I think I will mention it to the ped and see what they think.

After reading this, I checked both boys today LOL...and neither really smelled..now we were swimming though...but I tried to do it after they had played in the heat awhile...When does she go to the ped next? never hurts to ask!!
