So, Eliot is starting kindergarten this fall and I'm shopping for school supplies & clothes this weekend & next.
Thinking about it made me feel a little overwhelmed, not knowing exactly what or how much to get, clotheswise.
So, I thought I would come ask y'all
What are you getting your kids? Jeans, shorts, t-shirts/tops... how many of each?
What about shoes... tennis shoes, boots, sandles??
New underwear? Socks?
I'm not even sure that schools allow sandals... do they?
Eliot went to MDO & pre-school twice a week since he was 18 mo old but it's different than him going full time like he will be going now.
BTW, we still have probably 3 more months of hot weather.

I know I'm getting Eliot some more shorts especially jean shorts, at least 2 more.
He has a lot of t-shirts but some of them are nice ones and I'm not sure that I want him to wear them to school so I might get him a few more... maybe 4 or 5.
He has a new pair of nice white tennis shoes and I'm thinking of getting him a couple more pairs, one fall and one more pair of tennis shoes. New socks for sure, he doesn't have enough.
He has two new pairs of jeans but I want to get him at least 2 more pairs. And a whole bunch of sweats & wind/track pants those seem to last him a long time without wearing off the knees.
Hmmm, can't think of anything else

He will likely need an indoor pair of shoes.
I have tons of clothes for Mason, mostly hand-me-downs and most in good condition, so I don't think I'll be buying anything.
My big thing is, he will be going to Montessori for daycare in the morning starting in January when I return to work and they require a uniform, but I'm not sure if the kids who go to kindergarten half the day have to wear one. If so, then I guess he's wearing a white shirt and blue/beige pants every day starting in January. Easy!

Oh, I so wish Eliot's school had a uniform... that would make my life soooo much easier!

She has plenty of clothes (jeans, tshirts, skirts, etc.) so I'm not really going "school shopping" in particular. I did buy a few long sleeved shirts on sale for the fall/winter a few days ago. I think the clothes she has now are fine. I'll just buy things as the need arises.
This will be my first kid to start Kindergarten as well. I guess I might adjust things if I see there is a big need but I can't really understand the need to buy everything new all at once.

I've been shopping on and off for weeks, but my kids are older (except for preschool stuff for Riley). This weekend we did school supplies and backpacks. I did mostly new shirts, and just added a couple pairs of jeans and shorts a piece since they can still wear a lot of their old 'bottoms'. We did new shoes as well.
And now I'm broke

Shel, I can't imagine how expensive that was for 3 kids! Do you buy new knapsacks every year?
My nephew's school in Calgary has a fee and the parents pay it and all the suipplies are provided: pens, crayons, binders, paper etc. Everything. How easy!

Oh Bev, it was ugly. I pretty much have to save all year. We do new backpacks every year because they just seem to fall apart after so many months of being drug up the stairs on the bus, thrown in a car, dragged home etc. I just watch the sales ads and find when they go on sale. Shoes weren't too bad since Shoe Carnival was having a B1G1 half off sale. Unfortunately though, with my boys big feet, we have to shop the mens section where everything is ridiculously expensive

My kids wear uniforms to school, which is so easy! It's not compulsory until 1st Grade, but I put them in it in preschool and kindergarten as well. I much prefer it. That said, the preschool and kindergarten teachers do suggest old clothes if they're not going to wear the uniform. There's lots of art and craft activities and you don't want your good Gymbo getting paint on it!

Our school does that as well and it really is convenient

Josh is gonna need a mens size this fall too I have a feeling :( Poor kid sees the commercials and I don't think they make the shoe he wants in a big enough size! LOL!

I will probably go next week after things calm down here. I love to get the school supplies LOL..and I usually get extra pencils and crayons when they are like 20 cents a pack cause i know he will need to refill throughout the year.
As for clothes, he is ok shirt wise I think. I'll get him a couple new shirts so he has new for the very first day...And he needs a few more pairs of shorts as some of his just have to go after summer LOL.
He'll need jeans...and I'll probably do that during GAPS friends and family sale LOL. I just got him new boxers in June but he'll probably need socks. Our school allows certain sandals but not flip flops. He'll get tennis shoes too, probably only one pair now cause he is really hard on them so I know he might need another pair by Christmas.
Austin has alot of shirts too...but he will need some jeans and track pants. Definitely needs socks too and he already got some shoes..he LOVES them..

I will be doing some school shopping in Myrtle Beach during their tax free weekend next weekend! I have already bought all his school supplies except a new back pack. We get a new one every year. We also get a new lunch box every year.
Tylor always gets a brand new First Day outfit. He doesn't need much in T-shirts but he needs fall/winter clothes so I will get him long sleve t-shirts, sweat shirts, and he needs Jeans really bad. I bought him two pair of 8 husky at the end of the year with his weight and they fit but I think he has grown and they are looking a bit short so he will need all new Jeans size 10..not sure if I will need to get him husky or just regular. He is playing soccer and I have a feeling the weight will fall off of him as he gets going.
We always get a Good new pair of Tennis shoes (it seems to be a theme in Salem..not sure why). It is a shame but lots of kids are judged by their shoes so we always spend a little more on those. He will wear his Tennis shoes that I got him in April last year for Gym. He is going to need a new winter coat but his spring coat is good. My mom will be getting him a new quaker Coat as his last year one was two years old and is to small (she likes to get this for the kids)
Alyssa is pretty much set. I have been buying up people's Gymbo re-sales right and left and getting things here and there so I believe she is good to go aside from new tennis shoes and a winter and fall coat!

Crap, Jayne! I should have sent you all Jacob's clothes that he had outgrown! I had tons of 10 (and some 10 huskies that were Kaleb's) that I took to Goodwill because no one bought them at our yard sale!!!

School supplies... done!! Except the big 12x18 construction paper, couldn't find it anywhere :dunno: Gotta keep on checking on that. Got a backpack & lunchbox too.
We went to Target but the sales/clearance racks there sucked, I got him some shoes and then we went to KidtoKid right by it and got a bunch of nice clothes (even two nice gymbo shirts) that he can wear to school for the rest of the hot weather plus a couple of pants for fall/winter :aok: He'll need a new jacket then too.
Then we went to Walmart & got him some extra underwear & socks. He's set now!! I know that no tax weekend is next weekend but really the sales I got today outweight me fighting the huge crowds next weekend!

Paige was already in school last year (pre kindergarden) things I've learned, don't send them in nice light coloured clothes :disbelief: uggh she came home more times than I can count with mud all over her clothes because of where they stand to wait for the bus
I already bought her a new Hello Kitty backpack,Spongebob "bowling bag" lunch bag, her fall shoes, boots I bought last year on clearance  she hadn't picked her first day of school outfit but she is insisting on wearing her Hello Kitty t-shirt,so maybe just a new pair of jeans, I'll be checking Once Upon A Child to see what they have. I just need to provide a duotang as far as school supplies( so they can send notes home)
Paige's school is the only Catholic school that doesn't have a uniform and it ticks me off

Addison's school has uniforms and I've bought most of that already. Although I'm not sure what combinations of clothes are allowed, like if you have to wear tights with dresses or certain shirts with certain skirts.
If the school hasn't given us a list of school supplies, should I buy anything? I guess I should call the school, although I'm not sure if anyone is there now. She has a backpack and lunchbox from last year.

We get a small supply list at the end of the year with reportcards. The main supply list will be posted when the kids find out their teacher...which is like 3 days before school starts...You could call and ask...or see if anything is posted on the doors.

Cami - I wouldn't buy anything until they tell you too. You don't want to buy the wrong stuff. I'd guess that they'll either post you a list or give it to you on the first day.

Our school does this too and I didnt take advantage of it this year and now I am kickin' myself! They do it down to the backpack!
I am not going apeshit. Aidan fits into a lot of his stuff yet, so I have no idea if he'll have a growth spurt soon or not.
I figure he won't need more than 2-3 more pr of jeans for now and maybe a pr of cords or khakis. And then maybe a sweatshirt and a few LS shirts. He'll get stuff at xmas, so no reason to go nuts. Plus its just kindergarten. I need to save my $$ for when he cares

All I've bought so far is new tennis shoes (can't start school without new shoes! - who makes up these things? ) She still fits into most of her stuff, and when school starts it's still pretty toasty here, so I'm not even thinking about jeans and the like for a while yet, although I did buy a denim skirt and a l/s shirt at Old Navy a few weeks ago off their clearance stuff.

I'm shopping this weekend. Maia still fits into a lot of her stuff. I'll likely get her some stuff, but not a whole wardrobe or anything. Cole's outgrowing his stuff, so I have to get stuff for him. Still, I don't want to go crazy buying b/c the kid grows so fast.
Their shoes still fit, so I'm not getting new ones yet. I think I'm even going to send them to school with the same backpacks and lunch boxes they used last year. The horror! They're still in good shape, and I don't think the kids are aware of the "buy everything new for a new school year" thing yet. So I'll take advantage of that while I can.

We did school shopping in June! Year round school sucks! :angry2: Dylan went back to school on July 5th with a new backpack, a few clothes and shoes. We haven't even bought cold weather stuff yet. I did the lump purchase of school supplies through her class. It is something I've done for years now. It's the best way to go if it's offered.
