Sorry, I just don't know all the cool songs Nichole does. :dunno:  Let's get things closer to normal once again and that means a nice friendly fun posting party.

So tell us about the weekend plans, tell us about what is/was for lunch, tell us something!

No big plans here, but I can't wait for Dean to get home from being out of town all week. Can't wait to pass off all the little monsters

No big plans this weekend. Lots of homework, and I'm also going to hang out with Amy on Sunday. Should be a welcome break from the five assignments I have due on Monday (for one class!!)

We have Frances' party Sunday morning. Depending on who you belive, the temperature will be anywhere from 99 to 102.

I'm craving tomato sandwiches for lunch, so I'm going to be feasting on that in about 10 minutes. Gotta love having a local produce farm so close! (Baughers, for you local girls)

Sunday James is taking Caroline to a baseball game with my mom, and I'm begging off just for some alone time. After doing swim lessons all this week, I want a day when I don't have to go ANYWHERE!

Lynn

Hola!

We're probably going to be spending a butt load of time in the pool this weekend. Temps will be in the 90s with close to 80% humidity. :dead: I've been holding off having the central air on but I think we're going to have to cave this weekend. My gas bill will probably be as much this month as it was in January. :dead:

Jessica
July 28th, 2006, 02:21 PM
Mmm...tomato sandwiches! I love them too, but most people look at me like I have two heads if I mention them. I have 14 tomatoes ripening on the plants outside...I can't wait until they're ready to eat!

I'm going to 3 days of DH's reunion stuff and hoping to get to Frances' party on Sunday morning with Alex for a little while. Oh and I am playing golf tomorrow AM. :ura1:

It's going to be bloody hot in Denver!

I am (hoping) to do some shopping this weekend and start working on the house (painting, etc.). I highly doubt I get to, though

July 28th, 2006, 02:38 PM
I'm going to the Portuguese bakery and get some warm pastry in the morning and taking to my dad for his birthday. Meeting up with my college roommate for lunch and then meet my high school friends for dinner and kareoke (sp?). Sunday, I'm working 10-5 at the store (yuck) and then coming home and doing laundry and *maybe* do some gardening.

Shel
July 28th, 2006, 02:51 PM
I finished school clothes/supply shopping today :woo: The older boys and I went out this morning, then met everyone else for lunch at Applebees. Now it's just taking some time to clean the house this weekend, and squeeze in some scrapbooking. The first weekend I've actually had a day without running around in a long time!

Mike and I are finally going to see his brothers band play at a local bar. Sucks that he doesn't go on till midnight though! So, a KID FREE NIGHT :jump:

TtownAnne
July 28th, 2006, 02:54 PM
Oh puh-leeze. Let's take bets right now that something will happen that makes Shel drive at least an hour in SOME direction! MMMMmmm, scrapping day - maybe I'll do that with my alone time on Sunday. Need to finish our first Disney album before we go on our THIRD Disney trip!

Jessica, what do you mean no one has heard of tomato sandwiches? I know where you work - do you work with people who didn't grow up here? Nothing closer to heaven than ice cold tomatoes on white bread with gobs of mayo and a little pepper! :lick:

No cheese on a tomato sandwich? We put cheese on them here

We are working on the house as always... Besides packing we are down to finish work!!! The house went on the market yesterday so time will tell how lucky we are going to be. We are asking for the impossible (really really quick sale) but from what I hear it might be possible in this town. We also have a lot of yard work we have not been able to get to this year but the neighbor is willing to do it since he needs money so that is good for us.

AmyP
July 28th, 2006, 03:20 PM
I should be cleaning my house or doing something constructive right now, but no go.

Tonight we're dropping Sarah off at my parents' house so we can go out. She's staying overnight as a "trial run" for them possibly taking her for a long weekend in September. We're so excited to have a kid free night that we don't know what to do!

Saturday I have nothing special planned and Sunday Jess is coming over to watch Buffy with me. :)

Yeah, a few of them have grown up here, but they all think it sounds disgusting. Tomato sandwiches are the main reason I put in tomato plants this year. :)

Bev
July 28th, 2006, 03:45 PM
You don't toast your tomato sandwiches??? Just soggy bread and tomatoes? :screwy:
Toasted tomato sandwiches are my favourite summer food! I only have 1 tomato plant though; I didn't get one in April and therefore was screwed.

Tomorrow I have puppy kindergarten with Jinx and then we are going to Patrick's cousin's place for his birthday (and Patrick's I guess, since it was yesterday) and to their neighbour's for swimming.

On Sunday we are going blueberry picking and hopefully find some farm stand tomatoes.

Michele
July 28th, 2006, 03:50 PM
I don't think I've ever had a tomato sandwich. I've had cucumber sandwiches though, pretty much the same thing but with cucumbers and a little dill. Very yummy!

We actually have a fun weekend planned....tonight after dinner we're going to just go for a walk around town, to the park and to the ice cream shop. We'll probably also stop at the liquor store for a bottle of wine. Tomorrow my Mom is taking the baby and Scott and I are spending some QT with Jackson. I think we'll take him to the beach, since that is one thing I won't do with her yet. Saturday night we may go to a friend's house for a cookout, but I'm not sure yet. Sunday, a local park is having Tiny Tots Day - they have activities for kids 1-5, so we'll take Jackson to that.

TtownAnne
July 28th, 2006, 03:54 PM
Yes, toasting is an option, Bev. James' favorite way. I prefer untoasted because trying to cut and pick up the toast with tomatoes oozing out just guarantees a mess, and I eat mine on bread fast enough that it doesn't get mushy.

Q of the hour: Today is the last day of Caroline's swim lessons. Should I pick up a little something for the swim teacher, or is that going overboard (pun not intended, I swear!!!) Was just thinking of a Starbucks gift card or something. :dunno:

Ick, tomato sandwiches...I can't eat a raw tomato to save my life...I'll eat them cooked or sundried, but no way would a raw one be considered lunch!

We have a busy weekend planned, Saturday is our anniversary, so we are going out for a kid free dining experience! :woo: Sunday is my grandma's 77th birthday and we are throwing her a big birthday party. She's never ever had a birthday party and is going to be through the roof surprised!

Amy: Are you haveing a Buffy watching party? I'll be there in spirit if that's the case!

If you add some American bacon and lettuce to that tomato sandwich, it sounds good to me! Otherwise :dead:.

TtownAnne

Is bacon different there, Cami?

So, does anyone think I should get something for the swim teacher, or not?

Ick, tomato sandwiches...I can't eat a raw tomato to save my life...I'll eat them cooked or sundried, but no way would a raw one be considered lunch!

See, now I'll *only* eat them raw. Cooked or sundried give me the creeps. :heee:

Anne, I'm not sure if you've left already, but I'd do a small gift card. Like $10 or less.

Cami
July 28th, 2006, 07:04 PM
What time are swim lessons? Anyway, I wouldn't give the teacher anything, unless you just really really want to.

Bacon is different here: http://graphics.asda.com/PRODUCT/26/15/P-661526-f.gif They do have American type, precooked bacon but it doesn't seem as common/popular.

You guys buy your bacon pre-cooked? :errr: That sounds disgusting! My aunt who lives in NC always get bacon brought in by anyone visiting from here/England/Ireland. Now I know why!!!!

I don't think I've ever had just a tomato sandwich, but I do have tomato on my sandwiches, normally with ham and cheese or other salad stuff. Every now and then I get a craving for tomato on toast though.Toast with butter, cold tomato and pepper :lick: And for the record, I'm saying to-mar-toe, not to-may-toe!

Anne - I know that you are really impressed with the swimming teacher so I'd do a small gift card. I only buy them something if they've been great.

Saturday morning here. All our activities start back up today after a 2 week break. So Harry has tennis at 10am, Emily has ballet at 11.15am followed by Irish dancing at 1pm. Tonight we are meant to be going to a 40th birthday party. I don't have any enthusiasm for it at all. It's Alex's best friend's wife's birthday so he thinks that we have to go. I've told him that he can go and I'll stay home with the kids. They live in hicksville so it's over an hours drive and it's a cowboy party. I don't do dress up and I'm too old to be a cowgirl! We don't have any plans for tomorrow :)

Mary DK
July 28th, 2006, 07:25 PM
I used to eat raw tomatoes for snack all the time when I was a kid, my Mom always found an empty basket of tomatoes when she was gonna cook :shuffle: But now I can't eat them raw much at all, not sure why, maybe I ate my ration for life? :dunno:  I do have to say that I have never had a tomato sandwich

No big plans here, would love to go to the pool but Eliot is not out of his two weeks of recovery so no big activity stuff for him yet. I might go finish shopping for Eliot's school supplies tomorrow and I might stop at Target too, I noticed that Shannon posted about Target having a 75% off sale on their summer stuff so I'll have to check what they have for the boys... we still have a lot of summer/hot weather ahead.

To Quote Homer (simpson) "Hmmmmm...Maple cured Canadian bacon and tomatoe sandwiches!" Great now I'm craving something I'm 12 days away from being able to have!

I envy your weekends! I'm stuck at work eating camp food and busy as all h*!! cause my guys got back from strike (thats a good thing, better busy than bored!) Its 13 hour shifts and crappy food for me! At least DH is back to work so I can spend the evenings with him! I would much rather be sunning myself and doing the fun stuff though!

Brandi Jo
July 28th, 2006, 07:57 PM
Yee--haw, Clare's going to be a cowgirl!

All of this tomato talk has me craving sun dried tomato pasta, but that's not going to happen...Friday night is pizza night at Casa de M.

So, Cami, have you tried any of the "interesting" English food?

Our bacon isn't precooked. You can fry it or I put it in the microwave because that way it doesn't make as big of a mess.

No big plans here this weekend. I have to work tomorrow. :mope: I still like my job but I had almost 5 hours of overtime last week and now, I'll probably have over 5 hours this week. The OT is getting old fast but at least I get a nice check with it.

:wavey: Hi everyone!

Ok, confused over precooked bacon  I like mine freshly cooked and crispy thanks! :heee: (not that I can have any while on this diet! )

Well it's Saturday here and my girlfriend from out of town is coming in the next few hours, we are having my much belated 30th birthday party tonight (it was my birthday june 2nd but I was overseas) So it should be a good one, my Mum is watching the kids and I am letting my hair lose and plan on having way too many drinks :awink:

tomorrow I will devote to recovering! sounds like a plan!

The girls are begging to go to the Children's museum tomorrow- you could meet us there, Shel :)

You can get bacon precooked, to reheat in the microvave, but I think that's pretty nasty :dead: We only buy turkey bacon, since DH and the girls don't eat pork.

Bev
July 28th, 2006, 09:24 PM
Clare (I wanna be a cow-girl!), I say toe-may-toe!

Michele, I love cucumber sandwiches too! Other than my sister I didn't know anyone else ate them!!

http://www.mapleleaf.com/ConsumerProducts/ReadyCrisp/images/ml_ready_crisp.jpg
Maple Leaf Ready Crisp Precooked Bacon Slices have a shelf life unopened of 180 days (6 months) at room temperature. This is possible due to the cooking process which kills bacteria and removes the moisture necessary for bacterial growth, and by vacuum packaging which removes the oxygen necessary for bacterial growth. No additional preservatives or additives are added to extend the shelf life.

Maple Leaf Ready Crisp Precooked Bacon Pieces have a shelf life unopened of 120 days (4 months) at room temperature. This is lower than for the slices due to the gas flushed packaging (oxygen is removed and replaced with nitrogen and carbon dioxide) which helps to prevent the pieces from sticking together but is not as effective in preventing bacterial growth.

Once the packages are opened the product must be refrigerated and used within 14 days or frozen. The refrigerated shelf life is longer than for other processed meats due to the low moisture content of the products, however they are susceptible to spoilage through cross contamination and exposure to air.

I have never used pre-cooked bacon. I do like bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches too. I like tomatoes cooked and raw! I just like 'em! :)

Have a great time at your party Deb! :)

KristenF
July 28th, 2006, 09:29 PM
precooked bacon, really? (well, to those who can't envision handling raw bacon, I'm sure raw bacon is   ) However, I'm kind of glad our raw bacon comes pre-sliced. Although, I went to a hoity-toity restaurant a few weeks ago and the pan-seared tuna with "bacon" seemed to ressemble more the bacon in the photo previously posted than the bacon in my frig, so.... thanks for clearing up that mystery! Looks like we do it that way, too!

I can do a tomato sandwich, with mozzarella and a splash of balsamic. Otherwise, apart from your traditional blt, not so much with the raw tomatos.

We have a friend's bbq on Sat. and nothing else planned, HOWEVER... ugh, my stupid car. The run-flat tires were recalled, so I have to take the Sienna in to Toyota for an evaluation and they'll have to order me new ones. However, the car doesn't feel like it's driving right, it's kind of shaky (I *just* got it back and drove it for the 1st time yesterday, after a month of repairs ($10K+ worth) since a tree fell on it in our driveway). So, I'll have to have the Toyota people look at the axel and everything, maybe there's damage that wasn't fixed at the collision shop, so I'll need new tires (another afternoon without the car) AND maybe have to take it back to collision for realignment (collision is covered by my insurance, Caldwell Toyota is NOT). AND, I have to take it back to collision anyway, because they fucked up my DVD-it's doesn't work and they tried for an hour to fix it, so they need to call Toyota and then take the car for ANOTHER half day. UGGGHHHH!!!! I've had it. I just want it fixed-this happened on JUNE 25!!!!!! Enough already!

KristenF
July 28th, 2006, 09:31 PM
hmmm... I don't think it's necessary to get a gift for the swim teacher. You're waaaaaay too nice. But if you just loved her, I think you're on the right track-a$5 starbucks card, or even a blockbuster/video store card is MORE than enough.

TtownAnne
July 28th, 2006, 09:48 PM
I ended up not doing a gift card - no one else was doing anything (two of our neighbors take their girls to the same swim lessons, and they thought I was crazy for even asking! :dunno: Just thought it was a nice thing, being as they put up with lots of whining and crying and bathroom breaks for their summer) so I didn't want to be "THAT parent", kwim?

Am I the only person that thinks the precooked bacon isn't horrible? I mean, it's not ideal but if you only want two slices for a recipe, better to go that way than making your entire stove a greasy mess for it, no?

Jenn
July 28th, 2006, 10:08 PM
I can see using precooked bacon if you only need a slice or two for a recipe. I had just never heard of it before, but then again, I don't cook that much and I make bacon about twice a year.

Michele
July 28th, 2006, 10:08 PM
I agree with you on the bacon Anne...it isn't optimal, but it is good for recipes and stuff...

Bev - I had a cucumber sandwich this afternoon after reading this thread! I was starving and nothing else sounded good.

I'm signing off in a bit. Scott and I just cracked open a bottle of wine and we're going to watch Harold and Kumar go to White Castle...intellectual night over here!

Bonnie
July 29th, 2006, 12:28 AM
I couldn't tell you the last time I had bacon... not that I don't like it, but I can honestly say, it has never been in my house, and I've never cooked it. None of my girls have had it... and, like I said, I kind of like it, but it's just not something we really eat.

Weekend plans: We're going to a cook out tomorrow... Lee and friends went fishing today and caught a bunch of tuna, so that should be fun... we are going to an afternoon wedding Sunday.

Cami
July 29th, 2006, 01:38 AM
You guys buy your bacon pre-cooked? :errr: That sounds disgusting! My aunt who lives in NC always get bacon brought in by anyone visiting from here/England/Ireland. Now I know why!!!!

Clare, you can buy it precooked or raw. But in the US, bacon is skinnier strips than the big fat bacon here. I've found the skinny strip kind but only precooked.

I like precooked bacon. It's not as greasy.

Cami

Our Saturday is over. We went to the Sea Paradise Aquarium in Yokohama, Japan today. Lots of fun! Amelia really seemed to like it. We went to the Hard Rock Cafe for a late dinner. I thought Amelia would be sleeping but she was dancing around in her car seat & giggling up a storm! Sunday afternoon we fly home :( We will arrive in LA on...Sunday morning  After the drive home, I plan to sleep as much as possible.

Mmmm! Tomato sandwiches sound so yummy right now!

Bev
July 29th, 2006, 12:18 PM

So Harold and Kumar is the new generation of Cheech and Chong Up in Smoke.

Pam, I hope y'all have a safe flight and little Miss A is as pleasant as she was on the way there :crossfing

So, after planning meals, doing a grocery list, fighting two boys thru the grocery store, loading the groceries in the car while two very cranky boys hollered in the car, putting the little boy in bed b/c he fell asleep on the way home, unloading the groceries and putting them away... I don't really feel like cooking dinner at all!!! :shuffle: So, we'll probably have leftovers

Do you feel the same way after your meal planning/grocery shopping adventures? Or am I just a loser? I find that I feel that way at least 50% of the time :scan:

AmyP
July 29th, 2006, 07:24 PM
Harold and Kumar go to White Castle is funny. We saw it back when I was PG with Sarah.

DH and I had a WONDERFUL night last night! We had a nice, quiet dinner where there was no screaming cranky toddler, nobody threw toys down to see how many times we'd pick them up, nobody insisted on sitting in my lap when I ate dinner and then grabbed the nearest sharp utentsil. Ahhh....

Then we went home, watched a movie with the sound turned up loud ("Taking Lives", starring Ethan Hawke and Angelina Jolie, was really cool and I highly recommend it), stayed up late, and slept in this morning. Sarah was an angel for my parents, so they've agreed to take her for a long weekend in September so we can go away. :dude:

Mary - YES! I feel that way after shopping for food. I felt that way this morning. Alexis and I went to the store and stocked up for the week. Thankfully, Josh and Ty helped lug the stuff all in and put it away. That's the part I'm having the hardest time with right now.

To be honest, I've never had a tomato sandwich. :dunno: I love tomatoes anyway they come - except for ketchup - and I adore BLT's, but I've never thought about only tomatoes on bread. Hum. I should try it. :)

TtownAnne
July 29th, 2006, 08:18 PM
Am I the only freak that likes food shopping? Especially when I get to go alone, but even Caroline enjoys it so I don't mind taking her. I think it's a hold-over from that first time you go grocery shopping when you live alone, and the realization hits that you can eat ANYTHING you want! If you want chocolate cake for breakfast and cheese doodles for dinner, then go ahead and get them!

Shel
July 29th, 2006, 08:31 PM
Grocery shopping is only fun if accompanied by no kids and a tall decaf caramel frap from Starbucks, which is exactly what I have planned for tomorrow :)

Clare
July 29th, 2006, 08:42 PM
Mary - YES I do that as well. Put all the fresh food away and feed the kids something quick and easy

Anne - I don't mind grocery shopping when I'm alone. If I'm with the kids, fuggedaboutit. You reminded me of a funny story. My best friend and I moved out of home together when we were 24. The first night in our new apartment, she called her Mum and said that we ate lollies (candy) for dinner and didn't brush our teeth and there wasn't anything she could do about it  You probably had to be there, but it still makes me giggle

Pam - have a safe flight! I hope you will do a trip report when you get back, I'd love to hear about your adventures in Japan :)

Sunday morning here. I got out of being a cowgirl :woo: I was so tired yesterday afternoon that I couldn't bear the thought of going, so I sent Alex and Emily and I stayed home with the boys. Alex wanted to have a few beers so they stayed the night. They're not home yet and I guess our plans for today will depend on how hungover Alex is!

Hey Ladies!

Yesterday was our anniversary so I took the day off work. We dropped Genavieve off at daycare and then went to breakfast. Then we went to the mall and bought new silverware and got haircuts. We got some lunch on the way home.. came home and vegged for awhile... then we picked Genavieve up from daycare and took her over to the ILs. Then we went out to dinner by ourselves (and it was free because the ILs gave us a giftcard! :woo: ).... then we went to the movies and saw "Lady in the Water". Loved it!

Tonight we are just hanging out at home with the kiddo!

Clare

OMG, did Kristen, AKA Mutha Theresa, just say the F word??????

:shuffle: oh my, the truth comes out. There it is, folks... I've got a potty mouth. Raging sailor-meets-truck driver potty mouth. I try to control it, but sometimes I fall off the wagon. And if you've got anyting to say about it, you can kiss my ass.

:lol2:

I generally don't like grocery shopping because at least one kid is usually with me. To be honest, I feel like I don't even get half the food home, I end up feeding Mason the stuff as I pull it off the shelves before it even hits the cart, I just can't freakin fill him up  however, I usually g-shop in the morning, so I a good amount of time to recover before I have to think about cookin it all up.

Amy, so glad you had a great time!

Pam, have a safe flight!

Shel, have a great latte!

... closing thought: how is it that the most talked about event of our collective week irl is our grocery run? Sad, sad state of affairs...

I like my tomato on toasted bread, a little butter, salt and pepper..YUMMY!!!

We had my grandpa's calling hours and funeral yesterday and today..It was rough but very nice....everything was beautiful.

Tomorrow we're going to a baseball game!! The kids are so excited!!

TtownAnne
July 29th, 2006, 11:44 PM
Hrmmm, well, is my event disqualified if it's about my kid instead of myself? Hell, at this point I'm just waiting for summer camp to go back on Monday so I can have some peace and quiet. But we're still so proud of her for finishing swim lessons - she's worked hard at doing lots of previously "scary" things, so we're pretty wound up about it. The kid who doesn't like to get her eyes wet is now recommended for the second level of swim lessons next summer!

I went grocery shopping by myself last night. Pathetically enough, it felt like a huge treat and even worse, on a Saturday night? Can we say 'loser'? :scan: I don't mind grocery shopping by myself or with the girls but add a 1 1/2 year old and it sucks.

Mary, I do the same thing. After all that work of getting the food, I don't want to prepare it either. And I think I just spent $150 on this food and it's going to be gone so quickly.

Amy, it sounds like you had a great evening!

Happy Anniversary Alysia!

Must have been grocery day. I went yesterday too. It wasn't too bad since Rob stayed home with Sarah, who decided not to nap yesterday. Maybe it's because she was at my parents' house the night before, or it's quite possible it's because Sarah cuddled up on the floor with my mom in the morning and passed out for an hour! We tried several times to put her in her crib and get her to go to sleep, but no dice.

Needless to say, Little Miss went to bed early last night!!!

Last night was much more boring than Friday night. We played a video game together and got sleepy and conked out early. :dunno:

I have a super exciting morning planned. I get to clean my bathroom and vacuum my basement! :woo:  Oh well, gotta do what you gotta do. Can't get out of vacuuming my basement anyway because Jess has allergies to my cats and I don't want her to get all stuffy and red-eyed. Oh, and I might weed my garden as well. It's an eyesore these days, partially because the blazing heat has made my plants nearly suicidal. I also have to run to Sam's Club for a couple things since it's closer than BJ's and I only need two or three things there. I could go during the week but it's easier to do this stuff without a screaming toddler!

At least Jess is coming over in the afternoon for us to lounge around and watch Buffy (and Angel and probably Tru Calling). Hopefully Sarah will nap today.

Happy (late) Anniversary Alysia.

My boys are super good at the grocery store. :dunno: I don't like putting them away though, especially if DH "helps." He unloads all the bags/boxes and says: There's nothing here to eat, then leaves all the stuff on the counter! Uh, at least put the milk in the fridge, loser!

Had a very busy party last night at Patrick's cousin and Aunt's place. Nothing like chasing a 1 year old a 4 .5 year old and a puppy all over. Especially since the neighbours have 3 boys and a swimming pool. Hard to keep track of everyone and not too relaxing. :)

Hopefully we'll go picking blueberries this morning. I think they open at 9am, I'll have to check. If they do we should go now before it gets too hot.

It was 32C/89.6F (humidex 43C/109.4) last night at 9:30. :faint: YUCKERS!!

He wants instant food, right? My hubby does that sometimes after looking in the fridge & pantry. There is food, you just have to prepare it, dude! :slap:

Must be a testosterone thing - DH can look around in the fridge/pantry/cabinets, heave a big sigh and sit back down, then look around again 10 minutes later! I always say that the Refrigerator Fairy does NOT come to our house to deposit extra stuff, so he's just going to have to eat what is there!

My hubby does that sometimes after looking in the fridge & pantry.

yeah, same here... but when I ask him what he wants from the store, he NEVER has any suggestions.

David has no opinion before I go, and waits until I get home and then complains about what I bought.

Conversation today.

"why didn't you buy pancake mix?"

"Because I usually make my own"

"But I want the kind you just add water too"

"was it on the grocery list?"

"No. But you should have bought some anyhow"

 Shel. We often have the same conversation. Apparently I'm a mind reader too.

Hey Alysia - I like that you bought silverware for your 5th anniversary. Very modern! I bought Keith a new silver-to-wear ;) wedding band, and for our wood (traditional) gift I got a new tree for our yard. :) Happy Anniversary!

It's raining here and both of my guys are napping. Ahhhhh, sweet silence. I am going to read the paper in a little bit. I wish you could choose which sections you want when you buy it. I end up not reading half of the paper (jobs/real estate (4 sections today! )/automobiles/etc.) and it seems like such a waste of $$.

Today was great. I couldn't say anything about it here until it was over, but today was Jessica's Bridal Shower!!!

We totally surprised her at my house (no Buffy-watching today!), and we had a great time. Nobody fainted from cat allergies, and I'm still somewhat sane after having what seemed like a million people in my basement.

I'll be posting pictures in my journal and hers in a few minutes.

Am I the only one that hates grocery shopping? I avoid it at all costs and usually rope my DH into doing it. I make the list but he doesn't mind going. Also, he usually goes in the evening after the girls are in bed so I get the house to myself. If I go, I end up getting a ton of stuff that's not even on my list and spend more than I should so it works out better for him to go.

Jessica's shower was super-fun! (yes, James and Caroline really went to a baseball game, tho. ) Good food, nice people, and inside in the air conditioning. What more can one ask for on a 96-degree day? :dead:

Hrmmm, well, is my event disqualified if it's about my kid instead of myself?

Well, yes, I'm sorry, if you have a life that bares any interest out side of grocery shopping you are clearly disqualified (even if your life is really your kid's life and you're just the cruise director/chauffer/chef)

LOL What can I say, I'm pathetic.Okay, here's more salient news that will certainly be the topic of my week. I lost a bunch of IMPORTANT (Social Security, voters card, health insurance) cards from my wallet. I bought a new wallet about three weeks ago, and in making the switch from the old wallet to the new wallet, somehow I just miraculously forgot to clean out the second most important section of said wallet and THREW THEM AWAY! So I spent today running around. Luckily, the ones I lost are ridiculously easy to replace. Went to the Board of Elections, they didn't even ask to see any identification. Just asked for my name, confirmed that I'm registered to vote, and said they'll put it in today's mail. :woo: Went to the Social Security office (after passing it three times because the only identification of the place is a small blue sign smaller than a dinner plate) - filled out a form there and should have a new card in two weeks. So all I have left to do is call Blue Cross to get a new insurance card for me and Caroline.

Sadly, I lost some other important stuff that is not possible to replace - the first business card James gave me, the copy of the train ticket from the day we met, etc. :(

Anne, you should put in fraud alerts with the credit bureaus. If someone finds your SS card you are ripe for identity theft.

Shanna you are I are neck and neck today. Anyway, you need to contact all three to be sure you're covered. It's pretty easy - they've all got contact info online.

Actually I called Experian first and they said they share Fraud Alert info with the other two big agencies, so I'm covered in one phone call. :dude: I still can't BELIEVE I was so stupid!

What a bummer. I can't find my social security card either. I think it got lost in our move FIVE years ago. Worked in my favor because David had to go to the license branch and sit for hours to license the van since I didn't have my card

You only need to call one to do the fraud alert though. They will notify the other two for you.

I had some black bean and corn gazpacho. I made it yesterday- cold soup for a hot day! (Actually, the thing that inspired me to make it was that one of our durable medical equipment reps brought us a WHOLE BUNCH of fresh sweet corn- and I hated to see it go to waste- and that used up 3 ears of it!)
