Dear people of the OUAL.

Some of you may know most of you may not. Majority share holders in my company are forcing my business partner of three years, and myself into resignation from the company which we started and built up.

Where this effects you is that this site has been colo'd in my company's corporate data center. Since this environment will become unavailable to me in the very near future, I will be moving the equipment to a new colo facility.

I am currently planning on performing this move saturday morning 7/29/2006 probably around 9am or so. This move will involve an ip address change, and as such you will suffer from dns lag for up to 1 hour or until your ISP's nameserver refreshes its cache.

For those of you with technical abilities, you can set your name resolver to point to another server which is not likely to have the name cached. If you happen to run your own name servers you can SIGHUP your daemon, or restart your service if you run windoze server.

Sorry for the quick move, and short notice, but I have lots of things that have to be acted on very quickly in order to protect my interests.

Thank you for your understanding during this trying time.

The server is going to be moved from the location where it currently is to another location.

Background on an IP address: When you go to a web site like www.onceuponalife.com (http://www.onceuponalife.com/), it is translated to an "IP address" - this is a series of numbers like 123.38.493.12. This happens behind the scenes so you don't have to remember the numbers but the name. This is done by something called a "DNS server".

Because the server is moving locations it will be getting a new IP address - therefore all of the other computers around the world will slowly learn that www.onceuponalife.com (http://www.onceuponalife.com/), instead of being IP adddress (again, an example) 123.38.493.12, will now be IP address 456.48.284.30 (again, an example).

You won't be able to get into the site until it's moved and your internet provider (AOL, Time Warner, Earthlink, etc) finds out the new IP address.

I know this is still technical, but hope it helps. (Stagg, sorry for butting in)

There is no need to scramble to save journals or anything else. Although it mught be a little difficult to get to OUAL during this weekend, things will be back to normal by Monday morning (at the latest).

If anyone has any problems, please feel free to contact me at sheila@onceuponalife.com
