I hate it when I find something on eBay only to discover its being sold by one of those eBay companies that list your items for you. Nothing like charging 3x the shipping amount to make you running from a bid! They overcharge on shipping *and* charge the seller to list the items!

Sorry...had to vent when I found a lovely Madame Alexander doll and they wanted $21 to ship it with the USPS.

I know eBay is trying to crack down on inflated shipping prices, but I wonder if they will get these people as well?

I can't believe someone pays someone else to do it when it's so easy to do yourself

I hate that too Kristen!! Or when you think you have found a real steal of a deal for a Gymbo shirt that you can win for $1.00, but then they are trying to charge you $6.99 to ship it USPS first class mail!! If you want to make more money on your item, up the price on your starting bid...don't screw me on shippping!!

:dead: Kristen that sucks! I've often wondered about crazy shipping prices I've seen, i.e., who would actually pay it?

I just factor in the shipping price when I bid. If I'm willing to pay say $15 for an item, if the shipping is $3 I'll bid up to $12, but if the shipping is $7, I'll only bid up to $8.

I think it's the same thing I see at yard sales. People figure if a store were selling something, it would cost $$$....therefore, they should be able to charge $$$!! Yes, even for used crap at a yard sale. :(

I guess some E-Bayers are doing the same thing - you would pay $6.99 to ship through Gap.com, so why wouldn't you pay it to me? Ummmm....because I only paid $1 for your used shirt!!

Anyhoo....just my theory....

I don't get why people do that either. We looked for FG dresses and most people wanted $15 to ship an $8 dress (it was $8 BIN). It doesn't cost THAT much to ship a dress! Someone mentioned that in a seller's feedback and their reply was something along the lines of "I had to pay an employee to pack and ship it."

I sell stuff on ebay and I charge exact shipping and offer the cheapest shipping service I possibly can. And I let my buyer choose if they want to pay for faster shipping.

I think the sellers are hoping that people won't look at the shipping price until after they win the item so they can make a few extra bucks. It must be working because they keep doing it.

that and it lowers their listing fees dennis  it's called 'fee avoidance'...list for a low price and charging up the yinyang for shipping.

Then I'm really surprised eBay hasn't tried to crack down it. They crack down on everything sellers do to try to avoid fees, like not letting you link to paypal if you don't take CCs.

They are trying to crack down on it. IMO there should be a link on every auction to report inflated shipping prices as they are trying to avoid eBay fees.

Check out memory cards for your camera! It's outrageous. The cheapest shipping I found was $15.00 (and mandatory insurance was another $5.00). They would NOT combine shipping for two cards either. The card is less than the size of a piece of chewing gum. For the same card, others were charging shipping of $35.00!! The cards weren't 1.00 either. I think the one I ended up getting was 35.00 sale price plus shipping/handling/insurance. It was still cheaper than in the store so I got it but it's really annoying.

There have to be people that are paying the shipping or else they wouldn't be listing the auctions if they never sold anything.

When I sold things on eBay, I could fit just about anything in a flat rate envelope for 3.50. Even a pair of Large maternity pants. So a few kids shirts would easily fit in there.

Just thought I'd post this link in this thread. http://www2.ebay.com/aw/core/200606270927042.html

It was included in my ebay messages this morning.

That is nice to know...thanks Amy! I am so glad that they are doing this, because there are alot of times that I don't buy something just because the shipping is no obviously inflated that I just won't give the seller my money.

Thanks Amy. I didn't see this message yet but I'm really glad they are taking a stand. It's costing them money as well since people get out of paying their final value fee this way.

I still can't believe people will pay $35 twice to ship something the size of 2 sticks of gum! Crazy.

Wow! I just checked and most of the auctions for memory sticks now have shipping of 9.99 or less! The seller I just purchased a stick from a few weeks ago (with $15.00 shipping) now has free shipping. It's about time! Of course, the actual price of the sticks has increased some, but that is to be expected. The sellers were just pocketing the excessive s&h charges anyway.

I'm so glad that ebay is finally doing something about sellers who were trying to make money from shipping and handling. I avoid sellers like that completely.
