Need some advice... Nikita's winkie and sack and area around it have been reddish for a few days. I have been putting Aveeno Diaper Rash Cream on it, but it doesn't seem to help. I just changed his diaper, and it's really red, and the skin around the head of the penis looks red and swollen. Looks painful, but it must be just itchy to him, because he does grab it as soon as I take the diaper off (and normally he doesn't).... I usually don't change his diaper at night at all, so could it be from it being wet for so long? (8 pm to 7ish am) We have been doing one diaper a night for a while, though, and this just started...

Any advice? Should I call his pediatrician tomorrow or is there a simpler solution than a $25 copay for something you guys can tell me about?

Try a different diaper rash cream, there are all different kinds of rashes, and I have a few different brands so if one doesn't work then the other one normally does. By the sounds of this one a cream with zinc will help it!

As for not changing in the night, that is normal and to help protect it a bit more in the nighttime you can either use paw paw cream on his sack and penis or just corn flour

Lena, different diaper creams work for different kids.

Dr. Smith's works very well for my kids. It would take the redness away the fastest. I've gotten it at Wal-Mart for sure, and I think at Target as well.

Dr. Smith's doesn't form as good a barrier as Desitin, but it healed the rash the fastest. For kind of sealing the skin off - like if you wanted to use it at night to keep the wetness from his skin, I'd think Desitin would work better.

Triple Paste also seems to be a favorite of some people for rashes.

I'd say try another cream, but if you're concerned, you could call the pedi tomorrow just to see what they say.
