Lauryn will be going to Kindergarten in 2007 but registration opened today. I started calling right at 8 a.m. when they opened. Busy. Busy. Drove to my office and called again. Busy. Busy. I also tried calling from my cell phone while I was on my way to my client's office. Busy. Busy.

Finally at 10:30, I got through. Was on hold for 25 minutes.

We're getting in 14 months ahead but we're number 23 on the waitlist.

I love where I live but sometimes the competition is just so fierce. There's a line or a waitlist for everything! :complain:

Lyndee, there's a waitlist for public kindergarten 14 months out? Is that just to get her into the particular school you want? I'm confused.

The waitlist is just for SACC.

I would freak if there was a waitlist for kindergarten! (but then again, I have not confirmed that-- i'll have to look and make sure. )

What's SACC?

I don't know what SACC is either. But Lyndee, do you think she'll get in, being #23? I know where we used to live, parents would register for everything and then make their real decision later, creating lots of dropouts by the time the program started.

It's basically cheap childcare with an excellent curriculum!

Here's some info. Sorry it's disjointed. I just cut and pasted relevant info.

School Age Child Care Program (SACC).

School Age Child Care (SACC) cares for children before and after school.

SACC

- Nurtures creativity
- Supports independent thinking
- Encourages cooperative behavior

Experiential learning, leisure time interests, and field trips are also an integral part of the child-focused curriculum at each SACC center.

Children of residents are eligible. All adults living in the child's home must be:
- Working at least 30 hours a week and/or
-Attending school or job training programs at least 30 hours a week and/or

Children with special needs are integrated into SACC centers.

- After School (AS) - End of school day until 6:15 p.m.County Public Schools dismiss children early on Mondays. SACC service begins when the children are released.

- Winter/Spring/Summer Programs - SACC operates Winter, Spring and Summer Programs at a number of consolidated sites. Enrollment is on a first come, first served basis, and additional fees are assessed for each program. The centers are open from 7:15 a.m. through 6:15 p.m.

2005-2006 Program Highlights
This year we are excited to introduce two new components to our ongoing “Rhythms of SACC” curriculum – a Resident Artist Program and Young Entrepreneurs. Each year SACC seeks to provide programming that will spark the children’s imaginations, build on their natural interests and talents, provide new experiences, and open the door to discovery.

• Resident Artist will provide children with the opportunity to apprentice in the areas of dance, theatre, music, science, art, sports, photography, and more. Each visiting artist will teach her/his tools of the trade through fun, hands-on experiences that will encourage children to develop their talents and master new skills. The Artist’s Studio is the workplace where Resident Artists and children will learn, create, and exhibit their month-long experiences by using museum techniques and concepts.

• As Young Entrepreneurs, children will showcase their ideas, inventions, accomplishments, and talents in a center Marketplace setting. Throughout the year they will take a closer look at what it takes to turn their talents into a successful enterprise. From concept through development, to patents and marketing, they will explore the wonderful world of entrepreneurship & business.

Through these new experiential learning concepts SACC continues “preserving the past, exploring the present, and creating the future” while exploring the four “Beats” - Arts, Sciences, Literacy, and Recreation.

We're 14 months out. I'd be terribly pissed if she doesn't get in by the time school starts. :tantrum:

Yeah, people register for everything around here. One of my friends already had her daughter set to go to one school when the British School (expensive!) called her the day before class started because someone dropped out!

They also do summer and winter breaks-- just what we working parents need!

Now why don't they have something like this at our schools? That is such a good idea.
