I hear this I'd say, oh 100 times an hour from Alex. It's driving me crazy. And if he doesn't get to do "it" I get to hear massive amounts of whining. Ok, maybe not that bad. The only time he strays from his favorite saying is when I need him to do something (get dressed for example), then all of a sudden it's "I can't, I need help".

Anyone else in "I do it" land?:scan:

Totally. x2.

Aidan's been like this for I have to think 2 years now. The only thing he seems to want help with is buttoning his shirts.

Colin's come on stronger in the past few months, and really badly in the past month to the point where he freaks if we do something as minor as try to pour his milk. He will sit and button his shirt himself, even if it takes 20 minutes.

YES! Carter, my 4 year old is always wanting to do things by himself! ALWAYS! My daughter, Heather is starting to do this too. She can't say the words, but she wants to do it all by herself anyway. It's frustrating, BUT, it's so exciting to see them blossoming and becoming independent. I would be so much more excited about having independent kids than not. That's mainly because I am very very independent and always was. So, I see myself in them and that's pretty cool.

I thought of this thread earlier when it took Colin SEVEN minutes to put himself in his booster seat. I wanted to put a bullet in my head by minute FOUR.

Jackson is starting to do this too, it is totally frustrating when I'm in a hurry. The big thing is getting in the car all by himself. We have a Jeep so it is high, he has to climb up into the car, then climb up into his seat. Sometimes he also has to climb into the front of the car and climb back to his seat too. It is infuriating sometimes! A tantrum always ensues if I don't let him do it. He is selective too, if I ask him to do something, like throw a wrapper away, all of a sudden he can't.

We are so in that land too! Caroline just turned two and I hear "my do it" constantly! And, it takes her forever to do whatever it is as well. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels the patience dwindling after several minutes of watching their child struggle!

Oh yes!!! If I dare do something like put Alex in his carseat.....unwrap his cheese....take his jacket off....etc, I hear about it loud and clear! Of course, he won't even attempt to get dressed himself or some other things that I know he can do by himself. And then there's the stuff that I know he's not ready for - like pouring his own milk from a full carton - and he pitches a fit if I insist on doing it for him.

It's a frustrating time, I agree.

Oh yes. Norah is the queen of "I do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" (in a screeching voice). Its funny, because Elliott is the opposite. He's always saying, "i cant do it" and throwing a tantrum. I am not sure which is worse
