Alex will be 4 in September. He is fully day trained and rarely has accidents. At night he sleeps in pull-ups, which I am fine with and every once in awhile, Alex wants to try to sleep in underwear but alas, he can't make it through the night and wants to go back to pull-ups. I'm glad not to change the sheets all the time.

He is still sleeping in his toddler bed which is getting too small. He can't roll over very well without falling out of bed and he is just inches from the bed being too short. I'm ready to buy a twin and redo his room to a big boy room. My DH told Alex that if he can stay dry at night for a week, we will get him the big boy bed.

:angry2: ok....on to my soapbox!!! I don't want to wait. I don't think it's fair to Alex to be stuck in a bed that is too small regardless if he is fully potty trained. I don't care if he wears pull-ups in the big bed. I don't think it's fair to 'punish' Alex for something he can't control yet. I've read that boys take longer to night train and I've tried to explain that to DH. He thinks it will provide Alex motivation.

:scan: ok, now I'm ready to hear your thoughts!

Jacob was night trained before day trained  Since he goes to bed before me, I limit his fluids after dinner and get him up to go pee when I go to bed :dunno: It has worked so far, with only 1 accident that I remember

I agree with you, Becky. It's not something he can really control, so "punishing" him isn't going to help, IMO. Jackson is a few months younger than Alex, and he's still in Pullups at night too, and I'm fine with that. He goes to the bathroom before bed and will occasionally wake up at night to go, but sometimes he will still wake up with wet pants. Like you said, it's nice to not have to change the sheets. I'm not pushing it; he'll get it when he's ready. :dunno:

i'm with you on that becky  he cannot be comfy on essentially a crib mattress!

i also think you should just cold turkey the pullups and go undies. i think you'll be surprised. tony nightrained early and had few accidents. the wet bed is a big motivator  (buy a rubber mattress cover, i still have it on there even though i don't need it).

Get him the big bed now. Joe sleeps in a twin bed and he still wears pullups at night. He tried underwear a few times and always had an accident.

I think it's awful to punish him for not being able to go through the night without an accident.

I also agree. Bodily functions are not something that is easy to control, especially when they are sleeping! I would also get him the big boy bed now. If he is uncomfortable, he may actually be getting not so great sleep, which could be causing him to actually have more accidents at night. Because once he does get comfy, he goes into such a deep sleep that he just can't "hear" the signals that his body is telling him. With a bigger bed, his sleep overall through the night might be better and he might be able to pick up the signals that he has to pee and get up and go. Plus I remember when Dugan had his toddler bed, the poor kid had so many bruises on his shins because he would end up sleeping sideways on it and would bump his legs on the side of the bed! (he had one of those racecar beds).
Just a thought.

I am with the others. But I want to second the idea of getting a rubber cover for the mattress. My boys have an accident every now and again, but it's unpredictable...and so until it's not, I'm keeping on that mattress protector.

Becky I agree with you and the others, he needs to be comfortable while sleeping, that is first and foremost.

 I'm a bad mommy, thank you for bringing this to my attention Kim. His 40 pound body can't be supported by that mattress.....and I didn't even think of that. :slap: I deserve one of these.

Can I find a plastic/rubber mattress cover anywhere; Target, Walmart? Or do I need to go to a department store?

Thanks everyone!

Yep, I bought Jackson's rubber sheet at Target. It's like a fitted sheet, only vinyl.

We got our mattress protector at the store where we bought the bed (Mattress King).
