My son has been in day care since he was 6 months old so we have never really done the playdate thing. One of the moms at day care invited DS over for a playdate with her son this weekend. How long should I expect this playdate to last? Should I stay at the house or drop him off?

The boys are almost 5. They've been in the same class at day care for a couple of years and we know the parents fairly well from drop off and pick up, day care events, birthday parties, etc. Normally I wouldn't mind hanging out at the house, but we don't have much in common with these parents and I honestly don't know what we'd talk about for more than 15 minutes. But I can suck it up for one playdate since DS and this boy are really good friends at day care. (I know it will be me doing the playdate too since DH would just tell them no.)

Just wondering what the playdate protocol is for kids this age . . . .

I would likely stay. I don't really know any of the parents/kids from Mason's daycare/school well enough to drop him off. Unless I really know them I wouldn't do that, no matter how painful sitting there might be. Talk about regular Mom stuff, how hard it is to find time to do stuff, cooking/recipes etc.

How about you come here for a playdate? We'd have tons to talk about! And the boys could play on our big fort. :) It is a bit of a drive though.

Bev -- That would be so fun! It's probably not that far. :) We'd better do it soon before I need to get a passport for Jack in order to go to Windsor.

How long do you think is long enough for a playdate. An hour? An hour and a half?

I think 1.5 to 2 hours is plenty. And I would probably serve a snack.

I'll be having one of Mason's friends over as soon as his Mom is done teaching, so I'm aiming for a weekday about 9:30 am before it gets too hot and then they can play outside on the fort or the slip 'n' slide and then I'll serve some snacks of some sort. Fruit or veg and cheese depending what his Mom says he likes.
