View Full Version : Aqua doodle / magna doodle / doodle pro... what is suitable for what age?
Nadine June 26th, 2006, 05:29 AM Shoham's birthday is coming up and I am asking myself if these toys are too childish for her or if she will still enjoy them.
Also - what's your experience with the different types? What is the difference between them and which one would you recommend most?
Thanks!
Jayne June 26th, 2006, 06:54 AM Shoham will just be 4 correct. I would totally go with the Aqua Doodle. I don't know what the Doodle Pro is but Alyssa is 4.5 and loves hers. It is basically a mat and then they have these pens you put a little water in and it writes on the mat. Once it dry's you start all over again. It comes with a few other little spunges as well. No mess and tuns of fun!
We also have a magna doodle and while she does get it out she doesn't seem to play with it that often at all. :dunno: It is basically a board that you use a magnetic pen on to write. Alyssa's also has some little shapes with hers. Then you just slide the bar at the bottom to start over.
Nadine June 26th, 2006, 07:10 AM Thanks, Jayne. yes, Shoham will be 4 and she loves drawing.
How do you clean the surface of the aqua doodle?
Jayne June 26th, 2006, 07:15 AM I haven't had to? :dunno: We have had it for almost 2 years now. They only use clean water on it. (that you put in the pen)
marcy June 26th, 2006, 07:48 AM Nadine, when the water pen has been used on the Aqua Doodle the water dries, and that "cleans" the picture off. So I don't think you need to use anything else. Just wait for the picture to dry and go away.
Nadine June 26th, 2006, 08:34 AM Ahh, I see.
Thanks. So... if she draws something and wants to draw soemthing else she has to wait? Hmmmm...
Trish June 26th, 2006, 09:03 AM We have an Aqua Doodle and about 6 Magna Doodles  and Aden loves them! BUT, he is obsessed w/writing letters and numbers, so he uses them all. I think it just depends what your child is into, as to whether or not she would like them, but I think it sounds like Shoham might

Nadine..it is rather large. She shouldn't have a problem. Basically it has letters around it also and she can draw in one area, switch and draw in another and then more then likely the spot she drew first will already be dry. We have never found a problem and it makes for a good long bit of fun.
Cami June 26th, 2006, 10:28 AM We have AquaDoodle and MagnaDoodles and all my kids play with all of them. The AquaDoodle dries pretty quickly so it's not a huge wait until they can use it again. They like the MagnaDoodle too, especially using the little shapes rather than the pens. I would say though that Addison (4) is on her way toward not using them so much while Brady (19 mos) is getting into them now. I got some mini Aqua Draws for our plane ride, which I am keeping in my diaper bag to entertain Brady at restaurants... they are a big hit.
Nadine June 26th, 2006, 11:20 AM Thanks for the input.
Can you please give me links to good magnadoodles?
Mandi June 26th, 2006, 11:27 AM My girls have both and actually use the magnadoodle more. :dunno: I think Shoham would like either though. :)
BonnieG June 26th, 2006, 11:40 AM Dugan and Isabelle both LOVE the Aqua Doodle. They can spend at least an hour together on the floor drawing things and using the pens and stamps! I know that the one that I found only had 1 pen with the kit. I ended up buying a set of two extra pens and a set of 3 stamps and a stamp pad that you just run under water.
Nadine June 26th, 2006, 01:35 PM Thanks!
Can anyone please give me a link of a good magnadoodle?
Mary DK June 26th, 2006, 02:55 PM Nadine, here is a link to the list of magna/aquadoddles (http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=br_ss_hs/102-7000323-9884950?platform=gurupa&url=index%3Dblended&keywords=magnadoodle&Go.x=9&Go.y=9) they have at Amazon
We don't have an aquadoddle but the boys love their magnadoddles, we have them on regular size and travel size :aok:
Nadine June 26th, 2006, 03:22 PM Thanks, Mary!
Brooke June 26th, 2006, 07:30 PM My girls have both and actually use the magnadoodle more. :dunno: I think Shoham would like either though. :)
Rebekah likes the Magnadoodle more, too. The aquadoodle was a flop in our house.
The aquadoodle does dry pretty fast so they don't have to wait too long to draw again.
Bridget June 26th, 2006, 09:05 PM My kids both play with Magnadoodles. Caleb has gotten bit bored with the Aquadoodle but it sounds like he's in the minority. I'd recommend either of these two toys!!
