Birthday party themes for a 1 year old

I swear that he was just born, but my baby boy will be turning 1 soon. I'm stumped as far as ideas go. Eric's suggestions are ridiculous, and Anna keeps suggesting butterfly and dollhouse cakes. We'll have it outdoors if the weather is nice that day, and we're just planning on BBQing hotdogs and burgers for dinner. So, I'm putting it to you. Any cute ideas for a party theme?

Well there are the obvious ones... Sesame Street, Winnie the Pooh, etc. Or you could go with a more boyish theme and do firetrucks, pirates, cars, cowboys, etc. :dunno: I guess it depends on who much you want to do and how themed you want it to be.

I'm thinking less along the "character" lines. :) It's hard when they're so little and don't really have any obvious interests. :lol:

We did a mexican fiesta when Alex turned one. It was more about us surviving the first year so we had an adult celebration. :lol: We had a pinata for the kids and served street tacos from Rubios....oh and lots of margaritas. :lick:

When they are so young it is so hard to really focus in on something. They don't really have a favorite character at that age.

For Jackson's I didn't really do a theme. I found these cute invitations at Target that had a giraffe on them, so I had a cake made and they copied the design from the invitation onto the cake. For everything else I just matched the colors on the invites - so the balloons, plates, cups etc. all coordinated...

We did a rubber ducky theme. I also have a cake pan if you need it. :)
