View Full Version : Diaper Rash
Michele June 14th, 2006, 05:18 PM I gave Jackson orange juice last week and ever since he has a horrible diaper rash. This happened once before, about a year ago so I hadn't given him OJ since - I thought maybe I could reintroduce it, but I guess not!
Anyway, I can't get rid of it. I have been using Desitin and Butt Cream (both have always worked in the past) and it starts to go away, then he poops and it irritates it and comes right back. It has gotten to the point that he has stopped telling me when he poops b/c he knows it will hurt when I change him. This is making the problem worse b/c I don't always smell it right away and it can sit in there longer than it should.
Does anyone have a miracle cure for diaper rash? I feel so bad, every time I change his diaper he starts crying and begging me to put cream on it....
gulp! June 14th, 2006, 05:24 PM I do! Mix equal parts Aquaphor and Maalox (any flavor  ) It will seem like it takes forever to mix, but keep going until it's the consistency of paste. Slather it on generously every diaper change, and the rash will be markedly better in 24 hrs.
Poor Jackson. :( :hug99:
Nichole June 14th, 2006, 05:34 PM Stef, I think you should start packaging your miracle butt paste and sell it. You'd make a killing! Just think of how many sales you'd have made on OUAL alone!
Cami June 14th, 2006, 05:35 PM You can get a prescription cream too. I can't remember what's in it... but the pharmacy mixes it up and it works really well. Or is that the Butt Cream that you already have?
Karri June 14th, 2006, 06:55 PM I used Stef's miracle cream the night before we left for CA and Norah had a KILLER rash that she had been battling for a week. It cleared up overnight!! And she had a vanilla creme smelling ass, too
Michele June 14th, 2006, 06:57 PM Sweet! I'm going to try Stef's cream. I remembered reading about it somewhere, just couldn't remember where. If that doesn't work, then I guess I'll call his ped for a perscription. The Butt Paste I have is OTC - I got it at Target.
gulp! June 14th, 2006, 06:59 PM I can't take credit- our next door neighbors told us about it, and they got it from the husband's brother. :) But it is a miracle cream, that's for sure!
AmyP June 14th, 2006, 08:52 PM If that doesn't work (makes me kick myself for not trying that when Sarah had killer rash last week, will note for next time), try using A&D ointment and wiping him with toilet paper (a little wet if need be) and not using wipes. That's what worked for Sarah.
Melissa in Italy June 17th, 2006, 08:10 PM I do! Mix equal parts Aquaphor and Maalox (any flavor  ) It will seem like it takes forever to mix, but keep going until it's the consistency of paste. Slather it on generously every diaper change, and the rash will be markedly better in 24 hrs.
Poor Jackson. :( :hug99:
I think I might finally give this paste a try, if I can find Aquaphor anywhere (no success yet). I have two questions: What does the Maalox do? And does the paste work on a yeast rash?
Nichole June 17th, 2006, 10:04 PM I don't know if I'd use that mix on a yeast rash. Check the maalox ingredients for sugar, and it if has it then it's a bad idea for a yeast rash. You'd be better off using an antifungal cream for it. Something for athlete's foot or jock itch, believe it or not.
Jen June 17th, 2006, 10:21 PM Don't use wipes. That is usually what stings them the most. Use moist paper towels or a cloth if possible. On Keira's worst rash yet I also used my hair dryer set to low and dried her bottom off between diaper changes, before putting the paste on.
I love Triple Paste. Some stores have it behind the pharmacy counter but call first or you could be running all over town. I think it's mostly zinc. I usually order it online in a large container so I always have it on hand, might be useful for next time.
Michele June 17th, 2006, 11:52 PM I made Stef's cream and it worked! It smells a lot better than any of the other diaper creams I have used b/c I got the wild berry Maalox
Of course we went to the beach today and now he has a rash from that - I think it is more of a chafing type rash, it is more on his legs than anything. But I mixed up some more cream and put it on that. We'll see in the morning if it helped!
Thanks everyone!
Oh and Melissa - Jackson had a yeast rash once from being on antibiotics. My ped said to use athlete's foot cream, and it cleared it up right away.
Melissa in Italy June 18th, 2006, 03:27 PM It seems her rash is all but gone now. I used yeast infection cream (clotrimazole) and also an antibiotic ointment the Ped prescribed for use on open areas. Just slathered them both on there. And frequent changes, clean washcloth with water instead of wipes, bare butt, and jumped right on getting the diarrhea under control, which I think is what helped the most. It seems her bad rashes are always yeast so I have to use an antifungal cream on them. I know way more about diaper rash than I ever thought there was to know. :silly:
