My friend sent a cute personalized gift for Jack's birth (his name and birthdate are on the bottom - a little hard to see on this example):

She just had her first baby the other day (girl), and I'd like to send something along these general lines of a keepsake, personalized item - for around $30. I always see cute things like this in magazines and the like, but now that I want something, I'm not sure what I want or where to look. Got any suggestions?

My boys have the stroller chamois blanket from Pottery Barn Kids that I love. Both have them with thier names embrodiered and they are the main blankies. So not only is it personalized, they are actually used.

I doubt you could do it for $30, but you could do something girly like a silver brush/ comb set or an engraved jewelry box.

The president of our company gives that same thing for boys and a soft, pink blanket with the name embroidered for girls. That is Sara's favorite blanket :)

I think an engraved silver or pewter keepsake would be nice, I found these for under $30 from this website http://www.silvergallery.com/babyunder30/

A baby bracelet

A teething ring/rattle (this was $37)

Thanks for the ideas! And that is a good site, Michal. I am going to look more now too. I love the brush idea, Kristen, but I haven't found one less than $75 yet. A nice blanket is surely on my list, but it's so hard to know if she'll get a lot of those, you know?

What about this? http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000DZCTM/qid=1149277535/br=1-20/ref=br_lf_ba_20//002-8212649-1184845?v=glance&s=baby&n=3946711 Not a good picture but it's one of those first year frames and you can personalize it. Would you have liked something like this?

I think that the Taggie idea is one of the best. I know a friend who gives these and they remain in with the child for many years. Kids LOVE Them and they are such a nice personalized gift!

I am between the Taggie in this pattern:

Or, I did this a few years ago for another friend...more of a 'down the line' gift for short road trips and the like:

Some great ideas! I like the backpack for outings. It would surely be useful.

I'd die for that sweet little plate too. More impractical but it could be displayed in her nursery and would make a cute keepsake.

I also think that the metal rattle/teether would be good because kids have a tendancy to prefer metal when teething, it's cool and soothing. At least mine did. Her initials engraved on it would make it an ideal keepsake too.

My kids never took to the blankies but I think most kids love them. I've heard good things about the taggies as well.

Pretty much can't lose. I like the frame but you have to know who you are dealing with too. I'd probably never get around to filling it with photos so it'd be lost on me. If she's the industrious type, that's a great idea too. Being the first child she'd be more likely to put some effort into the frame. (my poor 3rd doesn't even have a baby book)

Alyssa, have you made a decision yet? I guess i like all three-taggie, the plate, or the picture...I don't think I'd give the backpack until the child is a little older and can use it, just MHO. The plate is a nice keepsake, but I would think it would be more so if it came from a family member.... As of right now, I guess I'd go with a taggie or a picture frame.
