I got my bill last month and I was shocked. $130 for digital cable and cable modem. It had been $90 but all the free-for-one-year stuff DH got had expired and everything was full price again.

Ugh! I can't believe it's that expensive.

So I called to cancel the digital cable, since we don't watch the movie channels anyway. Basic cable and cable modem is still going to be $90 before taxes.

Somehow, when DH calls and threatens to cancel, he gets all this free stuff. But I call and get "ok, Mrs. Borman. Just bring us the box and we'll cancel it." I don't know how he does it.

We pay $67 a month for our cable modem and the lowest TV package, I think it's called "standard". We only got the TV service because they give us $10 off the internet service if we get TV, and the TV package is $13. So for an extra $3 we get the TV service to run to our extra TVs.

We have Dish Network for our main TV, which runs us $42 a month for the middle package and locals, with no premium channels.

Our DSL is $29.95/mo. We have DirecTV and that's $49.99 a month and that's with 3 receivers, local channels and their top 150 packages (no movie channels, but pretty much anything and everything else).

$0. We do not have cable tv, a cable modem, or any sort of paid service. They are outrageously expensive and I'm outrageously cheap (frugal). I use my school or work accounts for internet access.

Our internet is 43.99 and our cable is about the same.
We are looking into digital which would be about $60.

I can't remember if it's $60 or $75--but that's for basic cable and our cable modem.

Our cable service plus cable internet is $90 including taxes. Cable internet is $44.95, and I'd give up cable TV before I give up my cable internet!! We only have what BrightHouse considers 'basic'...we don't have the premium stuff like HBO, Cinemax, etc. I do like my HGTV, Food TV and TLC...plus, gotta have Speed!!!

Ditto!!!

At our last house, we had digital cable & cable modem. It ran us $106 for both

Ok, I think I'm being robbed! We pay $140/month for digital cable and cable modem. :bawl:

Specifically we pay $94.43 for our digital cable with the platinum package (whatever that means  ) and $45.95 for our cable modem.

I think I need to call and find out how to get our bill down somewhat.

Our digital cable is around $90 a month. DH feels the need to have every channel.

Only dial up is available around here and I have MSN, it's $23.05 a month and I get 500 Mileage Plus miles every month for using it! I got a free plane ticket for Christmas last year with them.

That is the way my DH is! I think we have over 40 movie channels and we hardly ever watch them but every time I threaten to cancel our digital cable my DH cries about it.

We have limited basic cable. We really only get the broadcast channels, and a few others like CSPAN and the Home Shopping Network. We only have it so that we can get our broadcast channels. Our reception would be terrible without it. Anyway, we pay about $11 a month for that, and we pay about $11 a month for dial-up internet service.

I'm not a fan of the cable company -- they really have a monopoly in our area, but I'm too friggin' hooked to let go. We've made all kinds of budget cuts over the last two years, so cable and high-speed Internet is a real anomaly in our lifestyle.

Our most recent bill was $76.61. That's $40.34 for standard analog cable, $29.95 (a temporary discounted rate) for Roadrunner and $6.32 in taxes and fees. When we built this house I had phone jacks installed right next to the cable jacks so that when DSL comes to the area we're all set to switch.

We don't have cable for tv, we use satellite instead and it cost us about $75 /month. Our cable modem runs us $48.10 each month.

We pay $57 for cable TV and that's for the basic plus package. We use dial up at home and pay $21 a month for our ISP.

we have digital cable with hdtv as well, plus broadband, i think the whole thing is $120, but dh gets to expense the internet part thru work :aok:

we have every movie channel except showtime/tmc, plus we have high def hbo.

We pay $56 total for a basic plus cable and cable internet bundle. We are so happy with the package we found...hopefully they won't up our rates anytime soon.

We pay $62 for digital cable and we have dial-up for Internet, which is about $22 a month. Considering I spend most of the time at work online, I rarely go online at home, so a dial-up is fine for us. :)

Our total bill is right around $90. That includes the extended basic package (like 70 channels I think) and our cable internet. I'm thinking of getting rid of the cable and going with satellite. They seem cheaper. I'd have to really compare prices though b/c we get a break for having both cable and internet through comcast.

We get basic cable (otherwise we don't get any tv reception at all) for about $15 a month and our dial-up isp is $24 a month.

Our cable is $46.60 per month for all the channels except HBO and the like. We have two tvs hooked up to it. Our dial up internet is free since I dial in through work. It's painfully slow though. I do most of my internet surfing from work where it's super fast! :)

We pay $45.00 for our cable modem (no choice but to have one since the baby's room has taken over our over the "office" and since we rent I won't add a phone jack to our living room and have that cost US money) and we pay $70.00 for digital cable (2 TV's ~ with 2 movie channels).

we pay for cable and internet through the cable company and it's $90.38 per month.

Well, I TRIED to get DH to cancel the digital cable and he said not yet. I don't know what the big deal is. I only like it for the guide menu and I can live without it.

We have to have cable modem service. Both DH and I do alot of work from home in the evenings and we'd go crazy on dialup.

You have a guide with the satellites too.

What about DSL instead of a cable modem?

Not available in our area with any company. We just got the cable modem and digital cable a year ago.

Isn't there alot of start-up costs with satellites?

Not at all - they have new customer deals where you get the equipment free. Check out dishnetwork.com or directv.com and see what they are offering.

We have Dish Network on 3 receivers, one with all the movie channels - $49/month. (Was $15/month for the first year. :aok: ) It's virtually the same price as local cable and far more extensive and reliable.

DSL just became available and I think we had it a week later! It's $29.95/month.

We have digital cable... it runs us 75.00 per month, I have like 5 HBO channels, I only wanted one so I could watch Sex and the City, it is over now so I think we should get rid of the HBO because we never watch it! Our internet is through our home phone, it is a dial-up and is 15.95 per month.

I think we're paying $100 or so for cable TV and the cable modem. We had Dish Network, which we liked, but we couldn't get local channels through them, so we switched to cable.

I can't stand our cable company....it so pains me to write a check for $110 for our cable/internet. That's just for digital cable (no premium channels) and high speed internet. I WISH we could get DSL here...I'd be all over it !! They've raised our rates TWICE in the past year alone :banghead:

Well our basic cable plus HBO (which we are getting ready to lose unless we switch to digital cable) costs us about $48 a month. Our DSL is $29.95 and AOL Broadband (our ISP) costs us $14.95. We know we don't need to keep AOL, but we've decided to keep it for now.

Wow, I don't feel so bad about our TV and internet bills anymore.....

We have Dish Satelite, and it is costing us $19.99 a month. We have a promotion with free HBO and Cinemax.
We have cable internet for $36.00 a month.

So, $56.00 a month for both. If we had to go without one, without a doubt, it would be TV. We cannot go back to dial-up, we're toooo spoiled! When we had ethernet in college, that was REALLY great!

What company do you all go through?????

Christina
April 1st, 2004, 11:50 PM
Time Warner.

Actually I think our internet is free b/c Bill's company pays for that. So really the 98 dollars covers Digital Cable, Digital video recorder and HBO oh yes, and we get cinimax, I forgot (that we never watch).

We pay $38 a month for cable and nothing for internet because we have dial-up through the school I work at. If we didn't get dial-up free, we'd defninely have a cable modem but this works okay for now since we're on a tight budget.

I pay 21.95 for my cable modem but that is an introductory rate and will go up after several months will probably switch back to dial up after that.

We have direcTV for 30 buck a month no premiums

We pay about $10 for cable (limited package, just broadcast channels, but it doesn't work right, so we have everything but premium channels), and we pay about $28 for cable internet. Cable internet is normally $43, but we get $15 off for having cable TV. So, the cable company is paying us $5 a month to watch cable TV!
