I usually spend lots of $$$ sending DH's silk ties to the dry cleaner's. They charge as mush as if it was a skirt! So I was wondering if any of you knew of a cheaper way of cleaning them or washing them at home.
I used to have a Dryel set, loved it! But I used to buy it in Laredo, Tx while I was living near the frontier but I can't find it in Mexico City :(

Honestly, the best way to clean silk is to handwash it with a gentle soap like Woolite and then you will want to lay them flat to dry. Silk will stretch if it is line dried, and the weight may even cause it to tear.
If you need to iron them when they are dry, use a pressing cloth (I use a simple kitchen towel) on top of it.

I wouldn't trust myself doing it at home. Maybe I'm a baby, but I would dryclean them. How often do they need cleaning anyway? Can't they be worn several/lots of times before they need cleaning? Or is that gross? :)
