yes, I know this is not uncommon, but my 3 yr old is constantly pleasuring herself in the carseat, laying down, etc. She is not using her hands, but loves the car seat contraption. She is even doing it at preschool before she takes a nap. I know I am not supposed to make a big fuss about it, and then it will hopefully roll over, but it is bothering my DH. How long does it usually last, any ideas? Please tell me this is very common in young girls too!!!

Micayla doesn't pleasure herself, but she does touch herself alot. It's highly annoying and a bit embarassing when we have company. I just quietly remind her to stop. I don't make a big deal out of it or yell or anything. She's been doing it for a few months now and she's not really slowed down, so I have no idea how long to expect it to last. :dunno:

Ellie went through a phase of touching herself a lot. We established a rule that she could do it, but she had to be in her room with the door shut because it was a private thing. Thankfully, the phase didn't last long. Once in a while, she still do it, but I just remind her to go in her room if she wants to do that.

My best friend went through this with her DD last year. She is now 6. She would do it anytime and anywhere. My friend used the same approach as Theresa and she said it worked.

I think you have the right approach Theresa. There was a little girl at the preschool that I taught at that used to do it a ton and wouldn't stop. I do think it's normal, but I haven't really had to deal with it yet. I know this girl at school did it for quite a while, maybe the entire school year.
