When buying a battery-operated toy as a gift, do you include the batteries?

Yes, always. It would totally suck to be a kid, get a gift that you're so excited about playing with only to find out you didn't have the right size batteries. So yeah, I always get them.

I always include batteries. I've seen my kids disappointed too many times to open a gift but have to wait to play with it till we buy batteries. Not many people seem to around here though. We were at a birthday party yesterday and a parent was complaining to me about the price of the gift. Once you buy the toy, batteries, card and paper it all adds up. Someone else asked why you'd bother including batteries and that by leaving them out you'd save money. I thought that was kind of odd. If you don't want to buy batteries then why buy a battery operated toy?

Definitely! I'm one of 5 kids and every year at Christmas my parents made sure that every single toy had the batteries inserted before they were wrapped. I can't imagine how disappointed a child would be to receive a great toy with no batteries!

If they're that worried about the expense they should buy a cheaper gift to offset the other items. All the extras are part of the deal. I'd never give a battery operated gift and not include batteries.

Every year at Christmas my company "adopts" families and takes on the role of providing all their Christmas gifts. One year a teenage boy asked for a CD player and I wanted to go get it (we were all chipping in) but before I could do so another woman horned in and went and bought the cheapest CD player you've ever seen (it cost $15 or something). We were all pissed. Her attitude was, well, the kid is poor, why does he need a more expensive one? My attitude is, why give a gift you know is going to break if you even breathe on it? I don't get people sometimes.

I try my best to remember, but sometimes I feel like I am ahead of the game if I remember to even buy the card  But I do stock up on batteries at Costco, so usually I just throw in a pack.
