What's your name? Michelle

How old are you? 36

Where in the world are you? Maryland

What do you do? Graduate Student

How old are your children and what are their names? no children

Are you currently pregnant or Trying to Conceive (TTC)? TTC

Do you have any hobbies? reading, camping, spending time with my dogs and my boyfriend

How did you find OUAL? (what website or member or google search?)
surfing the web and somehow got linked here

Is there any information in particular you are looking for?

I've had two tubal pregnancies but I would still like to try. I have 1/4 of one tube left and the other was removed years ago. My boyfriend and I don't really have the money to try IVF, though I'd really love to. I know I'm getting older, and I wonder if anyone else has had success getting pg on their own after two tubals. My obgyn said that I should see a fertility doctor but I just can't afford it. Am I crazy to try again on my own? Thanks.

You are not crazy to try on your own - as long as you realize that you stand a very good chance of another ectopic. You should be very careful and check for PGY as soon as (or even before) you suspect it so that you can have an u/s done around 6 weeks to confirm a yolk sac/fetus in the uterus.

Best of luck to you!

Suzi,

Yes, I know that the risk is extremely great, but thank you for the reminder. A reality check is good for me. Antoher ectopic is my greatest fear because I was told that any more surgeries would probably make even IVF impossible. The first tubal required the major surgery because they didn't have keyhole yet.

I swore the last time that I could never go through such a thing again but then my younger sister, who is 33, found out that she had to have a hysterectomy because of endometriosis. She and her husband have been together for 15 years, but they had put off having children. She was afraid that the risk was too great, and now she seriously regrets it. I don't want the same thing to happen to me, too.

I still suffer over the loss of my other two babies (15 years ago and 2 years ago), and I still cry for them. Still, though, I at least have a chance, however remote. My sister doesn't. I think I would always regret it if I didn't at least try. I've been considering taking out extra money on one of my grad school loans for IVF, but I had a friend whose sister went through it 4 times and it never worked. She was completely devastated, too, and I can understand that. She and her husband finally ended up adopting a child.

I have thought long and hard about trying again on my own. I am scared to death, but I haven't really heard of IVF working for anyone without several attempts, which I could never afford-- and all of my boyfriend's money is tied up in his business. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for your post.

Michelle
