I'm having trouble potty training my twins. Any ideas?

You're trying to potty train at 16 months?

Thats what I was thinking! I have twins too, Callie, and they're 30 months and we're just starting to get into it :dunno: (they have shown interest since ~18 months, however) but I can't imagine really trying to PT at 16 months :dunno:

My brother had his kids potty trained at 16 months. They also spoke at 8 months and walked at 7. I guess I want to keep up with him. I really haven't worked too hard since it's so early.

All kids are different, so unless they're showing signs of readiness for things it's pointless to push it. Save yourself the headaches.

What Nichole said! My brother's kids all did things earlier too but they were A) singletons and B) had the 100% full attention of my SIL to teach them those things  Don't try, just follow their lead - much less headaches!!

um, NO WAY should you try potty training when you are getting ready to have another baby...and 16 months IMO is crazy early. That's more training you to take them regularly. My daughters are 15 months apart, and there was so way I was ready to tackle PTing with a newborn, especially since my older daughter didn't walk til 17 months.

My girls are 2 & 3 now, and DD #1 is getting very close to being PT'd, and DD #2 is showing a lot of interest, but I'm not forcing it.

ETA: any potty training book you pick up will tell you to A) follow their lead, and B) do NOT attempt potty training when any disruption to the normal routine is coming...a new baby is definitely going to disrupt and alter your family life for a while. Besides, there are more important things in life than trying to keep up with your brother's kids. Speaking at 8 months, walking at 7?? I think your brother is exaggerating just a bit, possibly knowing it's got you concerned. :dunno:

I'm sure he was. We've always been competitive!

Hmmm...my second son was barely a month into walking at 16 months, let alone PTing! Plain & simple...follow their cues.

most books will tell you that its almost impossible for a child to have control of that muscle at 16 months. 18 months is typically the minimum they develop that control.

Definitely back off. 16months is too young.

So I guess your brother's kids were neurosurgeons and astronauts by the time they got to kindergarten

He tends to overexaggerate! I checked though because he lives in Switzerland!
