View Full Version : Baby Name
Callie907 May 17th, 2006, 10:32 AM Hi, I'm Callista (Callie) and this is my first post ever. I am having a new baby (a girl!) and we haven't decided on a first or middle name. We have twin girls (Janae India and Chloe Samara) and they have traditional first names with exotic middle names. We like the name Evangeline, but we don't have a good middle name. My husaband (Jason) and I need some suggestions.
Nadine May 17th, 2006, 01:26 PM First of all, welcome and congrats!
(You might want to introduce yourself in the Welcome Wagon...)
I don't have any good ideas for middle names but I think it should be short since Evangeline is a long name.
Callie907 May 17th, 2006, 01:46 PM We're thinking about Catherine (after my great grandmother). Do you think that's too long?
Bev May 17th, 2006, 03:47 PM I think Evangeline Catherine is a bit of a mouthful. Sorry. How about Clare/Claire or Paige?
Nichole May 17th, 2006, 03:47 PM All I can think of is Evangeline Lily (from the Lost actress  ), but I think it's very pretty. :)
Shanna May 17th, 2006, 03:59 PM Evangeline Rose?
Evangeline MeLee?
Evangeline Bettice?
(Love Evangeline, BTW :) ) (and, I have twin girls too, BBTW  )
Michal May 17th, 2006, 04:13 PM All I can think of is Evangeline Lily (from the Lost actress  ), but I think it's very pretty. :)
Ditto :)
Callie907 May 17th, 2006, 04:21 PM I started loving the name when I went with my sister and her son and daughter to the movie Nanny McPhee. One character was named Evangleine. I really like Evangeline Lily and Rose, but I'm open to more ideas!
Callie907 May 17th, 2006, 05:55 PM We're also thinking about Karis or Carys (same name, different spelling). What do you think and what about a middle name?
Clare May 17th, 2006, 06:11 PM Evangeline Carys is nice.
Evangeline Kate
Evangeline Grace
Evangeline Remy
Evangeline Alexis
Callie907 May 17th, 2006, 06:22 PM Evangeline Grace is really pretty! That has to be the best so far! What about Karis/Carys as a first name?
Clare May 17th, 2006, 06:34 PM I like Carys as a first name. I prefer the Carys spelling b/c I like to stick with traditional, but Karis isn't bad.
Callie907 May 17th, 2006, 06:37 PM I like the Carys spelling too, but I was afraid people wouldn't pronounce it right! Any ideas for a middle name?
Clare May 18th, 2006, 05:36 AM Carys Elizabeth
Carys Renee
Carys Nicole
I meant to say that I think Evangeline Catherine sounds lovely and I don't think it's too long at all. My #2 was going to be Charlotte Elizabeth if a girl (was a boy though) and a few people told us it was too big a name for a little girl, but they're not little forever :awink:
Callie907 May 18th, 2006, 07:07 AM I really like Evangeline Grace. My husband ikes it too. I also like Carys Nicole. Those are our final two. Which do you like?
Clare May 18th, 2006, 07:46 AM Oh that's hard, I really like them both! Have you thought of a nickname for Evangeline? That might sway me
Callie907 May 18th, 2006, 08:06 AM I thought maybe Eva, maybe Annie? I need to choose though becuase the baby could be here within the next two weeks.
Emma39 May 18th, 2006, 05:18 PM I like the nickname Annie.
Clare May 18th, 2006, 05:32 PM If it was me, I'd probably wait till she's born and see which of the two names you think suits her best. They are both very pretty :)
As for a nickname for Evangeline, I wouldn't force one. If you go with that name, see which one comes naturally. I'd probably use Evie :)
Callie907 May 18th, 2006, 07:33 PM Our due date is June 3rd, but I think that she'll probably be a little early. Any day now I could have this baby.
Jaybee May 18th, 2006, 11:28 PM First, welcome :welcome:
I really like Evangeline Grace. My husband ikes it too. I also like Carys Nicole. Those are our final two. Which do you like?
Both the names you've chosen are really pretty - we had the same dilemma just a week ago (had our first baby girl - #3 :ura1: 18 days ago) and we had two names which we couldn't decide upon.
The questions we asked ourselves were:
which meaning do you like best? (if meanings are important to you)
which goes better with your last name? (they might both be fine...)
which flows with their siblings' names best?
which do you think she'll grow into? - now this one is probably easier to answer when baby is actually born and you can see her!! as Clare suggested
And also, our other consideration was how popular/common or otherwise a name do you want?
Hope those questions may help you decide - we took a week of debating and ended up choosing Phaedra Ruth over our other choice (Xanthe Sophia) because we liked the meaning of Phaedra better, our other choice would have ended up being too similar (and therefore confusing) with her older brother's name (Zavier), and Phaedra is less common - Xanthe is actually becoming more popular in NZ (I know of at least four other girls with the same name born in the last year) whereas I know of no other Phaedra. Also, Phaedra has got dark brown hair (like her Daddy) and R wasn't too keen on naming her Xanthe which means 'blond' in case she didn't go blond!! But it was the meaning of Phaedra that clinched it for us. :)
Anyway, hope you don't mind me burbling on! Good luck and let us know which name you decide on when you have baby :)
Jaybee May 18th, 2006, 11:34 PM BTW - I also meant to add, if you really like Evangeline Catherine - and Catherine is special because its your grandmother's name, go with it! I really like it, its special to named after someone in the family (that's where Phaedra's middle name Ruth comes from) and I don't think its too long (if you've got a short last name, that helps! :) )
My husband just suggested Ange or Angie for a Nn for Evangeline....
Bev May 19th, 2006, 07:32 AM Evangeline opens up tons of possibilities for nick names. I didn't mean to suggest earlier I don't like Evangeline Catherine, I do but it's a mouthful. Chances are you won't be shouting it out the door very often!
I also really like Carys. I think you have a tough choice!
justineg July 7th, 2007, 11:39 PM Congrats on the babies!
I really like the name Evangeline as well and I really thought about what would make a good middle name.
I think Evangeline Amelia sounds nice. (It rings well with our last name as well)
I would go for Lilly, but it seems over done.
