View Full Version : Should I write to her?

I was looking through some of my old stuff my mom brought over to my house and I found some old letters from a pen pal I had in Ohio from 1992-1997, roughly. We lost touch shortly after that and she was talking about moving and I've always wondered what happened to her. Well, I did a search on www.zabasearch.com and found her. It has her name and the month and year she was born. She's still in Ohio, about 45 minutes from her hometown.

I have always missed talking to her and thought about writing her a letter. Would you write her if you were me? I know online searches aren't 100% accurate (the same search lists me under my maiden name as living with my older brother, but he'd obviously give me something addressed to my name at his house if it was important). I'm thinking about writing a short letter, just enough to tell her who I am but not give too much information and risk it not being her. I figure if the letter is returned to sender or if she doesn't write back, I'll at least know I tried.

What would you do?

If you would like to get back in touch, then I'd write her. You could put no return address and just include a generic email address (like a gmail one that you really use) and tell her to email you if she's interested in rekindling the friendship.

I think I'll write her a short letter and I will give my address. She hardly knew anything about computers back then. I realize the world has changed and all since then, but I want to make it as easy as possible for her to reply to me.

I would write her. I know I think it would be great to get into contact with someone from the past. If you don't mind me asking..where in Ohio?

I'm going to get a PO Box and then I'll write to her. I've composed a short letter, but DH and I think it's best I get a PO Box just to be safe. I don't know if the person I'm writing to is my old pen pal or some crazy woman! I will get a PO Box this week (hopefully tomorrow) and get the letter mailed. All I mentioned in the letter is how and when we met, my maiden name, and my new married name. I mentioned a few other vague things about myself (like that I have a one-year-old daughter but I didn't mention her name). Just enough to jog her memory and see if she remembers me. I didn't want to go into too much detail just to be on the safe side.

Jayne - She is originally from Glouster (or at least she lived there when we were in high school) and the address I found is in Logan. I'm really crossing my fingers hoping this is her! The search engine said she'd also lived in Athens at one point. Any of those near you?

A PO box is a good idea. Sounds like it will be a good letter.

All three of those are about 3-3.5 hrs from me. Dan's cousins went to college in Athens. (Ohio University) It is a huge party school!
