Dang it, this thread is making me crave Mexican food! I wonder if the restaurants will be too crazy to attempt with kids tonight...

Jen
May 5th, 2006, 12:50 PM
1. Enchiladas Verde (cheese only)
2. Margarita (lots of salt-frozen or rocks)
3. Chile Relleno (only at the good places like Chuy's)
4. Guacamole
5. Any good mexican beer with salt and lime...MMMM

Wow, this was a bad thing for a pregnant girl to think about. Now I'm craving all of it!

We call most mexican food here Tex-Mex. I think that includes all the americanized mexican food. Purely authentic type mexican food is more rare around here, it's mostly all tex-mex. They only use the crumbly cheese at the authentic places.

I think it would be a perfect night to take the kids out since everyone will be buzzing and loud, they won't notice if the kids are bouncing off the walls or not

I hate that the mexican restaurants will be packed tonight around here. I'm so craving it now.

Trish
May 5th, 2006, 02:21 PM
You know, I've heard of fish taco's and they just sound gross to me, but I've never had one, so I won't knock til I've tried it ;)

Melissa
May 5th, 2006, 02:37 PM
LOL.... I just asked DH what he wanted for dinner and he said "Mexican?"

Nichole
May 5th, 2006, 02:39 PM
I thought they sounded gross when I first moved here too, but they are really tasty. The best I ever had was down in Rosarito at a little hole in the wall place. The women made the corn tortillas and fried the fish right there to order. :lick:

Girlo

May 5th, 2006, 04:05 PM
1. frozen margarita - preferably strawberry-mango
2. burrito - veggie, bean, chicken or beef
3. guacamole enchilada
4. tostada
5. veggie fajitas

I LOVE chips & salsa. My favorite Mexican food isn't really Mexican since I don't do lard. I like more of a fresh Mex kinda restaurant.

I HAD to try fish tacos when I 1st moved here even though I hate fish  They are pretty darn good.

The idea of fish tacos makes me gag. Sounds about as appetizing as fish meatloaf or something...

I don't really like spicy stuff, so my list is somewhat boring and based on our local mexican restaurant:

1. Chips and their own salsa which is cilantro-heavy and delish!
2. Beef flautas, heavy on the sour cream
3. Black beans
4. Beef chalupa (kinda like taco salad, I guess)
5. Steak fajitas, lots of fried onions

Michele
May 5th, 2006, 04:13 PM
1. Margarita on the rocks w/salt
2. Filete con hongos (this awesome filet w/a tequilla cream sauce and mushrooms that we get at Rosa Mexicana in NYC - the sauce is so good I'll eat the mushrooms even and I hate mushrooms)
3. Guac
4. Roasted Veggie Quesadilla
5. Carne asada

Fish tacos would probably be #6 or 7 for me...I have had really good ones in Mexico and in CA...but around here, not so much. It is kind of surprising b/c the fish is really good around here, just not in taco form.

I doubt it, I've never seen one around here. Oh I had Taco Bell at an airport once, St Louis I think. Does that count?

Bridget
May 5th, 2006, 09:03 PM
Clare you were in St. Louis once? That's only four hours from me. OK, maybe five.

Stacey
May 5th, 2006, 09:08 PM
No, Taco Bell doesn't even come close to counting unfortunately. That really sucks. :(

Of course, maybe I'm just too dependent on Mexican/Tex-Mex food. I think Brad told me that there were 100s of Mexican restaurants in Houston just that started with the word "El."

Only changing planes. Hey I changed planes in Kansas City once too.I would have been even closer to you then
Alex and I still laugh about the Taco Bell in St Louis experience. We ordered coke or something with our tacos and the girl kept mumbling something at us that we could not understand. She had her visor/hat thing pulled way down over her eyes so we couldn't see her face. We finally figured out she was saying "no soda" over and over. Not "I'm sorry but the soda machine isn't working", just "no soda". Whenever one of the kids pulls their hats down too far we call them "no soda"

I forgot a couple that I suppose could replace a couple of my top 5 - fish tacos with lots of cilantro and flan (flan being a separate entry  ). :lick:

I WISH Taco Bell counted. YUM!!! A girl in my branch calls it crack because it's so addictive. I think she's right.....

Mmmmm Mexican food. :lick: It's one of the things I love about living so close to the border.. REAL mexican food. :supergrin

1. Carne Asada burro
2. Taco Salad (normally shredded beef, occasionally chicken)
3. Chicken Enchiladas
4. Flautas
5. Chile Relleno

Chips and salsa come standard here so I didn't include them. But I love them. :lick:

There aren't really any good Mexican restaurants here in Canada. I have to go down to the states for that. I don't have a favorite that I always order, I usually try something different every time I go.
