We are going to <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on">Phoenix</st1:City> and <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Dallas</st1:place></st1:City> at the end of this month/early June. We will be mainly at the hotels but in both cities we are renting a car to go back and forth between the airport, and we are also going to visit Joe’s cousin in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Phoenix</st1:City></st1:place> and we’ll go to some of the hockey games (why we’re going there). <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

<o:p></o:p>

Shea will be in the carrier so he is all set, and Aidan is big enough for a low-back booster, so we plan to purchase one for him since it will be a lot smaller to carry. The question I have is about Colin. He is 35lbs. One of the boosters I am looking at for Aidan (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=2178367)says it’s a “belt positioning booster for children weighing from 30 to 100 pounds.” Would you put a 35lbs, 38 in, 3 ¼ year old in one of these for a short time or should I just suck it up and either bring his seat or rent a seat from the car companies?<o:p></o:p>

It's a hard call. I don't trust those low back seats. But it is just me. Anything can happen and after our travels I think I will have Alyssa in a 5pt harness for the rest of her life  I know that it says that it is safe for that age I just don't think that they are as safe. Seat belts just don't hold them as well.

i know how you feel alyssa, i've been eyeing the low back for tony for about a year for our florida trips and i just couldn't do it. i felt he was just too short for it.

that said, i'm getting one for him for our december trip, he'll be closer to 5 then though.

If he makes the weight requirements for it, why not? :dunno: As long as he understands that he has to leave the seatbelt alone and not play with it, I'd be okay with it.

Does the seat have an age requirement? Most of the ones I've seen say 4 years old so we waited until Rebekah turned 4 to put her in one.

There is no age on the one I was looking at: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=2178367

Alyssa, another option is to rent car seats at your destination. We are renting them for this trip, and they were only $30 for a week! They will drop them off at your location and pick them up when you are done. Do a Google for baby equipment rental in Phoenix to see if there is one in your area.

Otherwise, I'd probably do it. He's within the weight range.

ITA! I don't see anything wrong with it.

Check with AAA. Some locations have them free for members to borrow and they will install them too.

Its not the weight range I'd be worried about, but moreso the height. We have one that stays in my brother's trunk, since he's Aidan's 2nd emergency contact. We've never had to use it, but technically, he fits the requirements at 36lbs and 40". It still makes me nervous at all hell, though.
