What songs always make you cry, no matter how many times you hear them?

Main one for me is "In the Living Years" by Mike and the Mechanics. About the death of a father. Seeming as I've lost my father, it really touches me.
http://www.lyricsfreak.com/m/mike-&-the-mechanics/93565.html
Every generation
Blames the one before
And all of their frustrations
Come beating on your door
I know that I’m a prisoner
To all my father held so dear
I know that I’m a hostage
To all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years
Crumpled bits of paper
Filled with imperfect thought
Stilted conversations
I’m afraid that’s all we’ve got
You say you just don’t see it
He says it’s perfect sense
You just can’t get agreement
In this present tense
We all talk a different language
Talking in defence
Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It’s too late when we die
To admit we don’t see eye to eye
So we open up a quarrel
Between the present and the past
We only sacrifice the future
It’s the bitterness that lasts
So don’t yield to the fortunes
You sometimes see as fate
It may have a new perspective
On a different day
And if you don’t give up, and don’t give in
You may just be o.k.
Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It’s too late when we die
To admit we don’t see eye to eye
I wasn’t there that morning
When my father passed away
I didn’t get to tell him
All the things I had to say
I think I caught his spirit
Later that same year
I’m sure I heard his echo
In my baby’s new born tears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years
Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It’s too late when we die
To admit we don’t see eye to eye

I've always liked that song, Clare.
It doesn't always make me cry, but it does when I'm pregnant. It makes me a little sentimental all the time though...
Elton John "Blessed"
Hey you, you're a child in my head
You haven't walked yet
Your first words have yet to be said
But I swear you'll be blessed
I know you're still just a dream
your eyes might be green
Or the bluest that I've ever seen
Anyway you'll be blessed
And you, you'll be blessed
You'll have the best
I promise you that
I'll pick a star from the sky
Pull your name from a hat
I promise you that, promise you that, promise you that
You'll be blessed
I need you before I'm too old
To have and to hold
To walk with you and watch you grow
And know that you're blessed

I've got that song on a Disney Lullaby CD, Mandi. I didn't know that it was Elton John. I used to rock the babies to sleep to that, and yes that ones gets me teary as well

Oh man I'm opening a :worms: . Celtic music (big sweeping vocals, not just any kind) and big choral music makes me feel choked up. I won't even go into my lame explanation of why.
I can't think of any regular songs besides maybe once, Eleanor Rigby.

The Dance by Garth Brooks always gets me.
"The Dance"
Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared 'neath the stars above
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance
Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I a king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have changed it all
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance
Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain but I'd of had to miss the dance
Also, Somebody's Hero by Jamie O'Neal gets me, too.
"Somebody's Hero"
She's never pulled anyone from a burning building
She's never rocked Central Park to a half a million fans, screaming out her name
She's never hit a shot to win the game
She's never left her footprints on the moon
She's never made a solo hot air balloon ride, around the world,
No, she's just your everyday average girl (but)
She's somebody's hero
A hero to her baby with a skinned up knee
A little kiss is all she needs
The keeper of the cheerios
The voice that brings Snow White to life
Bedtime stories every night
And that smile lets her know
She's somebody's hero
She didn't get a check every week like a nine-to fiver
But she's been a waiter, and a cook and a taxi driver
For twenty years, there at home, until the day her girl was grown
Giving all her love to her was her life's ambition
But now her baby's movin' on, and she'll soon be missin' her
But not today, those are tears of joy runnin' down her face
She's somebody's hero
A hero to her daughter in her wedding dress
She gave her wings to leave the nest
It hurts to let her baby go down the aisle she walks right by
Looks back into her mother's eyes
And that smile lets her know
She's somebody's hero
Thirty years have flown right past
Her daughters' starin' at all the photographs
Of her mother, and she wishes she could be like that
Oh, but she already is
She's somebody's hero
A hero to her mother in a rockin' chair
She runs a brush through her silver hair
The envy of the nursing home
She drops by every afternoon
Feeds her mama with a spoon
And that smile lets her know
Her mother's smile lets her know
She's somebody's hero

Going to look for the lyrics...

Let me see if I can remember one of them by heart. They are all from a tape I got in HS. The songs are about different stories of Jews in difficult/trying times. It was called Destiny but I have no idea who the performer/writer is.
Researching it now.
ETA: The performer is Natan Eli.
FOUND ONE OF THEM:
Little Moishie went to cheder [Jewish school] every day
And with the other children he learned to say,
Alef, beis, gimmel, daled, hay [A B C D E]
And the rabbi would smile at him in a special way.
When they came and went no one ever saw
The study of the Torah was forbidden by the law.
In the ominous dark shadow of the KGB
They learned the alef-beis secretly.
“Alef, beis, gimmel, daled, hay”
Moishe and the children would all say.
Together they’d repeat
With voices soft and sweet
Alef, beis, gimmel, daled, hay
Soldier boots scraping on the hallway floor
Terrified young eyes focused on the door.
The crusty hardened face of the soldier that appeared
Filled the cheder room with great fear.
He singled out Moishe - “What have you learned?”
To the scared young child all faces turned
With the bayonet so close, he had no choice but to say,
“Alef, beis, gimmel, daled, hay.”
Somewhere in that soldier’s memory
Himself as a young child he did see
As the image passes before his mind tears came to his eyes,
All the cheder children heard him say with a sigh.
“Alef, beis, gimmel, daled, hay
There was a time when those letters I would say,”
He fought back his emotion
And to the soldier down the hall
He called, “Let’s move on there’s nothing here at all.
Let’s move on there’s nothing here at all.”
I was sobbing when I was singing it to myself... :woa:

:shuffle: I'm a country music fan (surprising for someone from CT I know). But I start crying whenever a patriotic song comes on. Travelling Soldier by the Dixie Chicks; Tough Little Boys; pretty much anything military related/parent related.

The Greatest Man I Never Knew by Reba McEntire
The greatest man I never knew
Lived just down the hall
And everyday we said hello
But never touched at all
He was in his paper
I was in my room
How was I to know he thought I hung the moon
The greatest man I never knew
Came home late every night
He never had too much to say
Too much was on his mind
I never really knew him
And now it seems so sad
Everything he gave to us took all he had
Then the days turned into years
And the memories to black and white
He grew cold like an old winter wind
Blowing across my life
The greatest words I never heard
I guess I'll never hear
The man I thought could never die
S'been dead almost a year
He was good at business
But there was business left to do
He never said he loved me
Guess he thought I knew
Even though my dad is still alive, it just kind of reminds me of our relationship. I can't listen to this song at all and if it comes on the radio, I have to switch stations or I will start crying. Even just reading the lyrics now made me cry.

Letters From Home by John Michael Montgomery
My dearest son it’s almost June
I hope this letter catches up with you, and finds you well
it’s been dry but they’re calling for rain
and everything’s the same old same, in Johnsonville
your stubborn old daddy ain’t said too much
but I’m sure you know he sends his love
and she goes on, in a letter from home
I hold it up and show my buddies
like we ain’t scared and are boots ain’t muddy
and they all laugh like there’s something funny bout the way I talk
when I say momma sends her best y'all
I fold it up and put it in my shirt
pick up my gun and get back to work
and it keeps me drivin’ on
waitin’ on, letters from home
My dearest love it’s almost dawn
I been lying here all night long
wonderin’ where you might be
I saw your momma and I showed her the ring
man on the television said some things, so I couldn’t sleep
but I’ll be all right I'm just missin' you
and this is me kissing you
X's and O's, in a letter from home
I hold it up and show my buddies
like we ain’t scared and are boots ain’t muddy
and they all laugh cause she calls me honey
but they take it hard, cause I don’t read the good parts
I fold it up and put it in my shirt
pick up my gun and get back to work
and it keeps me drivin’ on
waitin on, letters from home
Dear son I know I ain’t written
and sitting here tonight alone in the kitchen it occurs to me
I might not have said it so I’ll say it now
son you make me proud
I hold it up and show my buddies
like we ain’t scared and are boots ain’t muddy
but no one laughs, cause there ain’t nothing funny when a soldier cries
and I just wipe my eyes
I fold it up and put it in my shirt
pick up my gun and get back to work
and it keeps me drivin’ on
waitin on, letters from home

Goodnight My Angel by Billy Joel.
I got this book for Jackson and it came with a CD single of this song. I'm so hormonal right now I want to go listen to it and cry!
Goodnight, my angel
Time to close your eyes
And save these questions for another day
I think I know what you've been asking me
I think you know what I've been trying to say
I promised I would never leave you
And you should always know
Wherever you may go
No matter where you are
I never will be far away
Goodnight, my angel
Now it's time to sleep
And still so many things I want to say
Remember all the songs you sang for me
When we went sailing on an emerald bay
And like a boat out on the ocean
I'm rocking you to sleep
The water's dark
And deep inside this ancient heart
You'll always be a part of me
Goodnight, my angel
Now it's time to dream
And dream how wonderful your life will be
Someday your child may cry
And if you sing this lullaby
Then in your heart
There will always be a part of me
Someday we'll all be gone
But lullabies go on and on...
They never die
That's how you
And I
Will be

"Christmas shoes" gets me... good thing it's not on all the time.
Newsong
The Christmas Shoes
It was almost Christmas time,
there I stood in another line
Tryin' to buy that last gift or two,
not really in the Christmas mood
Standing right in front of me
was a little boy waiting anxiously
Pacing 'round like little boys do
And in his hands he held a pair of shoes
His clothes were worn and old,
he was dirty from head to toe
And when it came his time to pay
I couldn't believe what I heard him say
Chorus:Sir, I want to buy these shoes
for my Mama, please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir,
Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful
if Mama meets Jesus tonight
He counted pennies for what seemed like years
Then the cashier said, "Son, there's not enough here"
He searched his pockets frantically
Then he turned and he looked at me
He said Mama made Christmas good at our house
Though most years she just did without
Tell me Sir, what am I going to do,
Somehow I've got to buy her these Christmas shoes
So I laid the money down,
I just had to help him out
I'll never forget the look on his face when he said
Mama's gonna look so great
Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir,
Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight
Bridge:I knew I'd caught a glimpse of heaven's love
As he thanked me and ran out
I knew that God had sent that little boy
To remind me just what Christmas is all about
Repeat Chorus
Clare

I can't think of a particular song right now but for some reason when I hear the Star Spangled Banner played ( nascar) I get teary eyed?? I'm not even American??
I know where you're coming from there. I always get teary when I hear Elvis sing the Dixie song and I'm not from the South, not even from America
I thought of another couple. One is Daniel by Elton John. It makes me think of my nephew Daniel. He was the first grandchild and the first happiness my family experienced after my brother's death. So he's really special and I can't listen to that song without crying
The other is an Irish song called The Fields of Athenry. I'm not likely to hear it randomly on the radio, but it's always played whenever there's an Irish band around. It's a sad song anyway, about a young husband being arrested and transported for stealing food during the Famine but even sadder for me as it was sung at my Dad's funeral. My Dad's name was Michael, so the line "Michael, they have taken you away" is particularly tear-worthy
By a lonely prison wall, I heard a young girl calling
"Michael, they have taken you away,
For you stole Trevelyan's corn,
So the young might see the morn.
Now a prison ship lies waiting in the bay."
Chorus:
Low lie the fields of Athenry
Where once we watched the small free birds fly
Our love was on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
It's so lonely round the fields of Athenry.
By a lonely prison wall, I heard a young man calling
"Nothing matters, Mary, when you're free
Against the famine and the crown,
I rebelled, they cut me down.
Now you must raise our child with dignity."
By a lonely harbor wall, she watched the last star fall
As the prison ship sailed out against the sky
For she lived to hope and pray for her love in Botany Bay
It's so lonely round the fields of Athenry.

Love, Me by Collin Raye
:bawl:
I read a note my grandma wrote back in nineteen twenty-three.
Grandpa kept it in his coat, and he showed it once to me. he said,
Boy, you might not understand, but a long, long time ago,
Grandma’s daddy didn’t like me none, but I loved your grandma so.
We had this crazy plan to meet and run away together.
Get married in the first town we came to, and live forever.
But nailed to the tree where we were supposed to meet, instead
Of her, I found this letter, and this is what it said:
If you get there before I do, don’t give up on me.
I’ll meet you when my chores are through;
I don’t know how long I’ll be.
But I’m not gonna let you down, darling wait and see.
And between now and then, till I see you again,
I’ll be loving you. love, me.
I read those words just hours before my grandma passed away,
In the doorway of a church where me and grandpa stopped to pray.
I know I’d never seen him cry in all my fifteen years;
But as he said these words to her, his eyes filled up with tears.
If you get there before I do, don’t give up on me.
I’ll meet you when my chores are through;
I don’t know how long I’ll be.
But I’m not gonna let you down, darling wait and see.
And between now and then, till I see you again,
I’ll be loving you. love, me.
Between now and then, till I see you again,
I’ll be loving you. love, me.

In My Daughter's Eyes by Martina McBride (probably doesn't help I first heard it when Sarah was a newborn)
Martina McBride
In My Daughter's Eyes
From - Martina
In my daughter's eyes I am a hero
I am strong and wise and I know no fear
But the truth is plain to see
She was sent to rescue me
I see who I wanna be
In my daughter's eyes
In my daughter's eyes everyone is equal
Darkness turns to light
And the world is at peace
This miracle God gave to me
Gives me strength when I am weak
I find reason to believe
In my daughter's eyes
And when she wraps her hand around my finger
Oh it puts a smile in my heart
Everything becomes a little clearer
I realize what life is all about
It's hangin' on when your heart has had enough
It's giving more when you feel like giving up
I've seen the light
It's in my daugter's eyes
In my daughter's eyes I can see the future
A reflection of who I am and what will be
Though she'll grow and someday leave
Maybe raise a family
When I'm gone I hope you see
How happy she made me
For I'll be there
In my daughter's eyes

Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle
There's two things I know for sure.
She was sent here from heaven,
and she's daddy's little girl.
As I drop to my knees by her bed at night,
she talks to Jesus, and I close my eyes.
And I thank God for all of the joy in
my life, But most of all, for...
Butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer.
Stickin' little white flowers all up in her hair.
"Walk beside the pony
daddy, it's my first ride."
"I know the cake looks funny,
daddy, but I sure tried."
Oh, with all that I've done wrong,
I must have done something right
To deserve a hug every morning,
And butterfly kisses at night.
Sweet sixteen today,
She's looking like her momma
a little more everyday.
One part woman, the other part girl.
To perfume and makeup,
from ribbons and curls.
Trying her wings out in a great
big world. But I remember...
Butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer.
Stickin' little white flowers all up in her hair.
"You know how much I love you daddy,
But if you don't mind,
I'm only going to kiss you on
the cheek this time."
With all that I've done wrong
I must have done something right.
To deserve her love every morning,
And butterfly kisses at night.
All the precious time
Like the wind, the years go by
Precious butterfly
Spread your wings and fly
She'll change her name today.
She'll make a promise,
and I'll give her away.
Standing in the bride room
just staring at her,
she asked me what I'm thinking,
and I said "I'm not sure,
I just feel like I'm losing my baby girl."
Then she leaned over....and gave me....
Butterfly kisses, with her mama there
Sticking little flowers all up in her hair
"Walk me down the aisle, daddy, it's just about time"
"Does my wedding gown look pretty, daddy?"
"Daddy,
don't cry."
With all that I've done wrong,
I must have done something right
To deserve her love every morning,
And butterfly kisses
I couldn't ask God for more, man, this is what love is
I know I've gotta let her go, but I'll always remember
Every hug in the morning, and butterfly kisses...

and Nadine, that song would make me cry, too!!!!
Geez, I can't read the word to this without crying, either. I don't know how I feel when Bob's not deployed and I hear it because, like all men, he doesn't like George Michael!
Mother's Pride
Oh she knows
She takes his hand
And prays the child will understand
At the door they watch the men go by
In the clothes that daddy wore
Mothers pride
Baby Boy
His father's eyes
He's a soldier waiting for war
Time will come
He'll hold a gun
His father's son
And as he grows
He hears the band
Takes the step from boy to man
And at the shore she waves her son goodbye
Like the man she did before
Mothers pride
Just a boy
His country's eyes
He's a soldier waving at the shore
And in her heart the time has come
To lose a son
And all the husbands, all the sons, all the lovers gone
They make no difference
No difference in the end
Still hear the woman say your daddy died a hero
In the name of God and man
Mothers pride
Crazy boy
His lifeless eyes
He's a soldier now forevermore
He'll hold a gun till kingdom come

This song, because DH was adopted by his new dad after he and Mom got married when DH was 8.
He Didn't Have To Be by Brad Paisley
When a single mom goes out on a date with somebody new
It always winds up feeling more like a job interview
My momma used to wonder if she'd ever meet someone
Who wouldn't find out about me and then turn around and run
I met the man I call my dad when I was five years old
He took my mom out to a movie and for once I got to go
A few months later I remember lying there in bed
I overheard him pop the question and prayed that she'd say yes
And then all of a sudden
Oh, it seemed so strange to me
How we went from something's missing
To a family
Lookin' back all I can say
About all the things he did for me
Is I hope I'm at least half the dad
That he didn't have to be
I met the girl that's now my wife about three years ago
We had the perfect marriage but we wanted somethin' more
Now here I stand surrounded by our family and friends
Crowded 'round the nursery window as they bring the baby in
And now all of a sudden
It seemed so strange to me
How we've gone from something's missing
To a family
Lookin' through the glass I think about the man
That's standin' next to me
And I hope I'm at least half the dad
That he didn't have to be
Lookin' back all I can say
About all the things he did for me
Is I hope I'm at least half the dad
That he didn't have to be
Yeah, I hope I'm at least half the dad
That he didn't have to be
Because he didn't have to be
You know he didn't have to be

The Christmas Shoes gets me too.
I can think of two that have a tendency to make me all weepy:
Skin by Rascal Flatts
Sara Beth is scared to death
To hear what the doctor will say
She hasn't been well, since the day that she fell
And the bruise it just won't go away
So she sits and she waits with her mother and dad
And flips through an old magazine
'Till the nurse with the smile stands at the door
And says "will you please come with me"
Sara Beth is scared to death
Cause the doctor just told her the news
Between the red cells and white, something's not right
But we're gonna take care of you
Six chances in ten, it won't come back again
With the therapy we're gonna try
It's just been approved, it's the strongest there is
But I think we caught it in time
Sara Beth closes her eyes.
she dreams she's dancing
Around and around without any cares
And her very first love was holding her close
And a soft wind is blowing her hair
Sara Beth is scared to death
As she sits holding her mom
'Cause it would be a mistake for someone to take
A girl with no hair to the prom
For just this morning, right there on her pillow
Was the cruelest of any surprise
And she cried when she gathered it all in her hands
The proof that she couldn't deny
Sara Beth closes her eyes
she dreams she's dancing
Around and around without any cares
And her very first love was holding her close
And a soft wind is blowing her hair
It's quarter of seven, that boy's at the door
her daddy ushers him in
when he takes off his cap
They all start to cry
'Cause this morning where his hair had been
Softly she touches just skin
They go dancing, around and around
Without any cares
And her very first true love is holding her close
And for a moment she isn't scared
Angels Among Us by Alabama
I was walking home from school on a cold winter's day
Took a shortcut through the woods and I lost my way
It was getting late and I was scared and alone
Then a kind old man took my hand and led me home
Mama couldn't see him, but he was standing there
But I knew in my heart, he was the answer to my prayers
Oh I believe there are angels among us
Sent down to us from somewhere up above
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with a light of love
When life dealt troubled times and had me down on my knees
There's always been someone there to come along and comfort me
A kind word from a stranger to lend a helping hand
A phone call from a friend just to say I understand
Ain't it kind of funny at the dark end of the road
Someone lights the way with just a single ray of hope
Oh I believe there are angels among us
Sent down to us from somewhere up above
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with a light of love
They wear so many faces
Show up in the strangest places
Grace us with thier mercy
In our time of need
Oh I believe there are angels among us
Sent down to us from somewhere up above
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with a light of love

Get your tissue ready. It's my biggest tear jerker, and I'm a bit of a jerk because I love it so much that I almost don't want to share it. It's written by a Canadian musician named Connie Kaldor.
I HAVE YOU
Some have furs and fancy cars
But I have you, I have you
Some have silk and caviar
But I have you, I have you
Some have emeralds set in gold
But they can't sit and rock and hold you
Like I do, like I do
Like I do
And some have lace and diamond rings
But I have you, I have you
They always have the latest things
But I have you, I have you
Some are always dressed in style
But they can never catch your smile
Like I do, like I do
Like I do
And some have homes on the finest streets
But I have you, I have you
The finest leather on their feet
But I have you, I have you
Some have wine and a castle keep
But they can't watch you drift asleep
Like I do, like I do
Like I do
Like I do, like I do
Like I do

I have to switch off that Rascal Flats song because it makes me cry. There's another country song too about a little girl dying.... here's the lyrics:
Hello God, it's me again. 2:00 a.m., Room 304.
Visiting hours are over, time for our bedside tug of war.
This sleeping child between us may not make it through the night.
I'm fighting back the tears as she fights for her life.
Well, it must be kind of crowded,
On the streets of Heaven.
So tell me: what do you need her for?
Don't you know one day she'll be your little girl forever.
But right now I need her so much more.
She's much too young to be on her own;
Barely just turned seven.
So who will hold her hand when she crosses the streets of Heaven?
Tell me God, do you remember the wishes that she made,
As she blew out the candles on her last birthday cake?
She wants to ride a pony when she'd big enough.
She wants to marry her Daddy when she's all grown up.
Lord, don't you know she's my angel
You got plenty of your own
And I know you hold a place for her
But she's already got a home
Well I don't know if you're listenin'
But praying is all that's left to do
So I ask you Lord have mercy, you lost a son once too
And it must be kind of crowded,
On the streets of Heaven.
So tell me: what do you need her for?
Don't you know one day she'll be your little girl forever.
But right now I need her so much more.
Lord, I know once you've made up your mind,
There's no use in beggin'.
So if you take her with you today, will you make sure she looks both ways,
And would you hold her hand when she crosses the streets of Heaven.

I've been reading through some of your song lyrics. I hadn't heard most of these songs since they are country music (why is all the depression songs country? ). Anyway, wow, some of them make me want to :bawl:
Cami.. I remember hearing that song a few years back. Can't remember exactly when, but I know it was after Micayla (and possibly Melayna?) was born. And OMG, I just cried and cried. That song is so sad. :(

He's My Son by Mark Schultz
I'm down on my knees again tonight
I'm hoping this prayer will turn out right
See there is a boy that needs Your help
I've done all that I can do myself
His mother is tired
I'm sure You can understand
Each night as he sleeps
She goes in to hold his hand
And she tries not to cry
As the tears fill her eyes
CHORUS:
Can You hear me?
Am I getting through tonight?
Can You see him?
Can You make him feel all right?
If You can hear me
Let me take his place somehow
See, he's not just anyone
He's my son
Sometimes late at night I watch him sleep
I dream of the boy he'd like to be
I try to be strong and see him through
But God who he needs right now is You
Let him grow old
Live life without this fear
What would I be
Living without him here
He's so tired and he's scared
Let him know that You're there
CHORUS
Can You hear me?
Can You see him?
Please don't leave him
He's my son

Holes in the floor of Heaven by Collin Raye - This song reminds me of my nanny and dance teacher growing up (one in the same) I don't know why. I love it and just reading it makes me cry.
One day shy of eight years old,
When grandma passed away.
I was a broken hearted little boy,
Blowing out that birthday cake.
How I cried when the sky let go,
With a cold lonesome rain.
My mom smiled, said: "Don't be sad child.
"Grandma's watching you today."
"'Cos there's holes in the floor of Heaven,
"And her tears are pouring down.
"That's how you know she's watching,
"Wishing she could be here now.
"An' sometimes if you're lonely,
"Just remember she can see.
"There's holes in the floor of Heaven
"And she's watching over you and me."
Seasons come and seasons go,
Nothing stays the same.
I grew up, fell in love,
Met a girl who took my name.
Year by year, we made a life,
In this sleepy little town.
I thought we'd grow old together,
Lord, I sure do miss her now.
But there's holes in the floor of Heaven,
And her tears are pouring down.
That's how I know she's watching,
Wishing she could be here now.
An' sometimes when I'm lonely,
I remember she can see.
There's holes in the floor of Heaven,
And she's watching over you and me.
Well my little girl is 23,
I walk her down the aisle.
It's a shame her Mom can't be here now,
To see her lovely smile.
They throw the rice, I catch her eye,
As the rain starts coming down.
She takes my hand; says: "Daddy don't be sad,
'Cos I know Mama's watching now."
"And there's holes in the floor of Heaven
"And her tears are pouring down.
"That's how you know she's watching,
"Wishing she could be here now.
"An' sometimes when I'm lonely,
"I just remember she can see.
"Yes, there's holes in the floor of Heaven,
"And she's watching over you and me."
Watching over you and me.
Watching over you and me.
Watching over you and me.

Danny's Song - either by Loggins & Messina or Anny Murray. Particularly the part in bold.
People smile and tell me I'm the lucky one, and we've just begun,
Think I'm gonna have a son.
He will be like she and me, as free as a dove, conceived in love,
Sun is gonna shine above.
Chorus:
And even though we ain't got money, I'm so in love with ya honey,
And everything will bring a chain of love.
And in the morning when I rise, you bring a tear of joy to my eyes,
And tell me everything is gonna be alright.
Seems as though a month ago I beta chi, never got high,
Oh, I was a sorry guy.
And now a smile, a face, a girl that shares my name,
Now I'm through with the game, this boy will never be the same.
(To chorus)
Pisces, Virgo rising is a very good sign, strong and kind,
And the little boy is mine.
Now I see a family where there once was none, now we've just begun,
Yeah, we're gonna fly to the sun.
(To chorus)
Love the girl who holds the world in a paper cup, drink it up,
Love her and she'll bring you luck.
And if you find she helps your mind, buddy, take her home,
Don't you live alone, try to earn what lovers own.
(To chorus)

10,000 miles by Mary Chapin Carpenter
Fare thee well
My own true love
Farewell for a while
I’m going away
But I’ll be back
Though I go 10,000 miles
10,000 miles
My own true love
10,000 miles or more
The rocks may melt
And the seas may burn
If I should not return
Oh don’t you see
That lonesome dove
Sitting on an ivy tree
She’s weeping for
Her own true love
As I shall weep for mine
Oh come ye back
My own true love
And stay a while with me
If I had a friend
All on this earth
You’ve been a friend to me.

From the movie "Fly Away Home". This movie always gets me for some reason, and this music begins the movie. I just think it has a simple beauty, and it makes me tear up when I hear it...

I'm not into country music so much but it's always those songs that make me bawl. 'Live like you were dying' by Tim McGraw and 'There goes my life' by Kenny Chesney.
Unforgettable - Nat King and Natalie Cole
Beautiful Boy - John Lennon
It had to be you - Frankie Sinatra (and I love the version by Harry Connick Jr.)

For me it's Through the Years by Kenny Rogers. It was a tradition for my class (through a hard-to-explain set-up at our HS) to have this as our senior song. So I think of it in that aspect (I loved HS and made most of my closest friends there), and I also think of it in terms of my family.
Through the Years by Kenny Rogers.
I can’t remember when you weren’t there
When I didn’t care for anyone but you
I swear, we’ve been through everything there is
Can’t imagine anything we’ve missed
Can’t imagine anything the two of us can’t do
Through the years, you’ve never let me down
You turned my life around, the sweetest days I’ve found
I’ve found with you... Through the years
I’ve never been afraid, I’ve loved the life we’ve made
And I’m so glad I’ve stayed, right here with you
Through the years
I can’t remember what I used to do
Who I trusted, whom I listened to before
I swear, you’ve taught me everything I know
Can’t imagine needing someone so
But through the years it seems to me
I need you more and more
Through the years, through all the good and bad
I knew how much we had, I’ve always been so glad
To be with you... Through the years
It’s better everyday, you’ve kissed my tears away
As long as it’s okay, I’ll stay with you
Through the years
Through the years, when everything went wrong
Together we were strong, I know that I belonged
Right here with you... Through the years
I never had a doubt, we’d always work things out
I’ve learned what love’s about, by loving you
Through the years
Through the years, you’ve never let me down
You’ve turned my life around, the sweetest days I’ve found
I’ve found with you... Through the years
It’s better everyday, you’ve kissed my tears away
As long as it’s okay, I’ll stay with you
Through the years!

Here is another one that gets me. It's by Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton. It reminds me that I have a better life waiting. I can't wait to get there. :tear:
When I get where I'm going
On the far side of the sky
The first thing that I'm gonna do
Is spread my wings and fly
I'm gonna land beside a lion
And run my fingers through his mane
Or I might find out what it's like
To ride a drop of rain
Yeah when I get where I'm goin
There'll be only happy tears
I will shed the sins and struggles
I have carried all these years
And I'll leave my heart wide open
I will love and have no fear
Yeah when I get where I'm going
Don't cry for me down here
I'm gonna walk with my grand daddy
And he'll match me step for step
And I'll tell him how I missed him
Every minute since he left
Then I'll hug his neck
Yeah when I get where I'm goin
There'll be only happy tears
I will shed the sins and struggles
I have carried all these years
And I'll leave my heart wide open
I will love and have no fear
Yeah when I get where I'm going
Don't cry for me down here
So much pain and so much darkness
In this world we stumble through
All these questions I can't answer
So much work to do
But when I get where I'm going
And I see my maker's face
I'll stand forever in the light
Of his amazing grace
Yeah when I get where I'm goin
Oh When I get where I'm goin
There'll be only happy tears
Hallelujah
I will love and have no fear
When I get where I'm going
Yeah when I get where I'm going

There are so many songs that make me cry....skin, christmas shoes, in my daughter's eyes, but the one that gets me the hardest is this one....
One More Day
Last night I had a crazy dream
A wish was granted just for me
It could be for anything
I didn't ask for money
Or a mansion in Malibu
I simply wished, for one more day with you
One more day
One more time
One more sunset, maybe I'd be satisfied
But then again
I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still, for one more day with you
First thing I'd do, is pray for time to crawl
Then I'd unplug the telephone
And keep the TV off
I'd hold you every second
Say a million I love you's
That's what I'd do, with one more day with you
Leave me wishing still, for one more day
Leave me wishing still, for one more day
