I was just curious if there was anyone here who belongs/belonged to a greek organization. If so, which one? Are you active as an alum?

I was a Tri Delta, but I disaffiliated when I transferred to a different school, so I'm not really a member any more. However, it was a great part of the first two years of college for me!

Hey Jill - I'm an AOPi! :) I am a member of my alum group, but my life has been so busy that I haven't done any activities since August. Where'd you go to college?

Rochelle

I should've answered my own question! I'm a Tri-Sigma. Not into my alum group, they are always meeting when I'm at work!

Ha! How funny. I went to the University of Delaware - the chapter there has since been closed, which is kinda sad!

That is sad. It happens too often.

Was anyone's DH in a fraternity? Mine was in Phi Delta Theta. He made so many awesome friends. Way more than I did. They are still really tight.

Rochelle

Nope, dh had no desire to join a fraternity but all of his best friends are Phi Kappa Sigma & my brother is an AEPi.

Oddly enough as non-active as I am in my alumnae associations etc the only people I talk to from college are my sorority sisters and more specifically my pledge sisters.

Mine too! It's funny, because I was in AOPi and my brother was in AEPi so my mom says all she needs is one "A_Pi Mom" shirt with a Velcro "O" and a Velcro "E" and she can mix and match as the mood strikes her!

I am a sister in Gamma Phi Beta. I was very active in college - serving as President my junior-senior year, but I am not too active as an alumna at this point in time. Maybe in the future. I recently learned that Dru Sjodin - the beautiful co-ed missing from North Dakota - is also a Gamma Phi Beta - which makes me so sad  Its a sad story regardless, but the common bond of sisterhood I feel with all Gamma Phis has really made this affect me. Whenever I see a crescent moon in the sky lately (our sorority symbol) I think of her and hope she will be found safely.

My DH is a Phi Kappa Psi alum and not active at all except for reading his fraternity magazine in the bathroom whenever it comes  My sister Steph is a Delta Gamma.

Caurie, they are still actively searching for Dru. I hope they find her :blue: I think they will, the family is so very committed to finding their girl.

I was a Kappa Alpha Theta. I'm not really involved in anything anymore. Although, since I went to college in my hometown (where I still live  ) I do try to visit the house every year during homecoming.

I am a member of a coed honor fraternity - Phi Sigma Pi. There's an alumni association in the area, and I got suckered into a position on it. It's pretty laid-back, though, so I don't mind.

Pi Kappa Phi Here.

I spent my first 4 years of college working, goofing off in school and avoiding fraternities, and my last 3 with the fraternity, and working, community service projects, and making good grades. Being part of a fraternity was the most rewarding part of college. I am still close with a few of my brothers, but most of us have disappeared into the working ranks, and children, and families. Occasionally there is an event where many of us get together.

Shout out to the Gamma Phi Betas and the Alpha Gamma Deltas! :wavey:

Hey Cheri! I am an Alpha Phi too! I am active in my area Alumnae Association (I am the VP of membership). I just sponsored someone for Alumnae Initiation!

Hey MrsF! :wavey: I know you from GC!

Any other Greek Letter Org folx out there?

Oh yeah DH is not a fraternity dude at all. I am hoping my stepson will be, though!

I was/am a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron (a honors/professional sorority). I'm not really active as an alumni since I live so far away now and I haven't really sought out the local alumni group. I do pay my alumni dues though if that counts for anything

I also spent a LOT of time around Delta Theta Sigma (a fraternity) because my friends were Little Sisters there. I just never had the time or desire to be that committed so I didn't join, I did a lot of other activities.

Did anyone help out with recruitment (or rush) :D

I was there all rounds of rush (except the second round). I helped out with Philanthropy and Pref and was there for Bid Day. Quota was 15 and we got 11 (Trust me a HELLUVA lot better than last year...don't ask). One dropped, unfortunately. We got another 3 thru COB

We had the best damn recruitment in a few years! I was pumped! I also helped with initiation last weekend. We initiated 14 young ladies, including one alumnae initiate! http://www.letsjusttalk.com/vb/images/smilies/yippee.gif http://www.letsjusttalk.com/vb/images/smilies/yippee.gif http://www.letsjusttalk.com/vb/images/smilies/yippee.gif

Funny thing is the chapter does better in COB than in formal so I am expecting a great spring formal recruitment

Sororities and Fraternities are not really such a big part of the University experience for most people here in Ontario. (At least, they didn't used to be). When I hear about the experiences of sorority sisters I feel like I missed out. (No girls gone wild at the University of Guelph! Welll....maybe a few, but not in sanctioned group! )

Thank GOD no "girls gone wild" in my sorority!!! Sorry you feel like you missed out. :bighug: I loved it but I also loved my little group from high school and the one from law school -- neither of them were sanctioned but we still had a great time!

Got this from this site: http://www.canadiangreeks.com
This site shows which chapters are currently at which schools and which chapters have been there in the past.

Some of the schools at Ontario have HUGE Greek life. Especially the University of Western Ontario and University of Toronto.

At Guelph, you all have a chapter of Pi Beta Phi. Here is their website

http://www.geocities.com/ontario_gamma_girls/

As far as NPC, (National Panhellenic Conference, which governs 26 International sororities), they would not put up with the Girls Gone Wild stuff.
No sirree bob! Your chapter will be shut down so fast your head will spin

Ladies, Monday is NPC badge day:

The twenty-six member organizations of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) are celebrating International Badge Day, an annual event during which sorority women everywhere honor their Greek affiliations by wearing their badge or letters

I will be wearing mine :)
