I have two baby showers in the next week. One this saturday and one the following Sunday. I really enjoy making Diaper cakes and I never include them as the present. I realized after just finishing the one for Saturday that I have over 50$ in the diaper cake alone and then I bought a 40$ gift. I never in a million years would spend this much. So I want your opinion.

Would you enjoy getting one of these at your baby shower?

Would you think it was enough of a gift?

DO you like this?

The mommy's theme is Blue Jean Teddy and the daddy is a fire fighter. The daddy is a dear friend of mine. Acutally I used to date him and he is one of my best friends. Was even in our wedding so I don't feel so bad spending this much but I was thinking more in the future.

Yes to all those questions! I would have loved one of those and would have never expected another gift on top of that.

That's really cute, I would have loved to get something like that! I definitely think that is enough of a present.

I think it's cute! More than enough for a gift! If I had received one, I would have had to take it part when I got it home, though, since we wouldn't have a place to put one.

Your supposed to take them apart. There are 50 size 1 diapers there. There is a bottle filled with peanut m&m's and then all the fun do dads that are on it to accessorize it! that is what makes it fun

There's a lot of stuff in that, so I'd definitely think it's plenty for a gift. It's a cute way to give the basic necessities. :aok:

I figured that you were. I guess that what I was saying that it would be very temporary since the stuff would have to get taken apart right when it got home. It reminds me of the awesome basket of goodies I received! I've used most of the stuff from day 1 & still do!

I say the cake is more then enough. All the time and thoughtfulness you put into it is beyond anything you could buy

that to me is a gift, if I was receiving something like that then I would presume that IS the gift and never in a million years expect something else ontop of that!

It would be the same as getting a gift basket( only much nicer :) ) so no, I wouldn't get anything else along with it..ok maybe I might throw in a gift card to Target or someplace for last minute diaper runs but only a $5 one :)

I think it's fantastic and wouldn't expect another gift. :)

I agree with what everyone else has said. I would never expect a gift in addition to that.

By the way, your diaper cake looks wonderful! Very nice!

Thank you all so much. I was very happy and excited to take it. I got a lot of compliments on it..All except from the one pg. She looked at it like it was no big deal and tossed it aside. I was not happy to say the least.

Jayne, I bet if she's a first time Mom she has no idea how handy that will be. She probably saw it wasn't all in a fancy gift box and didn't appreciate the work that went into it. She also probably doesn't know how glad she will be to have all those goodies you tucked in there!

Either that or she's still jealous that her DH used to date you. :)

Too bad you can't grab your Baby Magic lotion back!

Yes Kara your right it was for Amanda.

Bev  Your so funny!!!! Your so right though. She is a first time mom but she worked in a daycare. I don't think she is jealous that I used to date her DH but she just seemed to really be ungreatful at her shower.

I wish I could see the pictures here at school! I'll have to check them out when I get home.

Its a WONDERFUL gift! If she's ungrateful, then that's her issue. I wouldn't worry about it. She probably came off that way to alot of the people. I'm sure her husband appreciated it! He's the one that counts, anyway.

It will be interesting to see how she words her thank-yous!

The one that wasn't as impressed was from last year. Her Thank you just thanked me for all I did and for the stroller. Nothing about the diaper cake. I hope tonight goes better. Kara thinks I should try and sell these. I have seen that they go for almost 100$ online. I would only be able to sell them in town or where deliverable I think!

Alot went into this diaper cake and you can make them as expensive or inexpensive as you want.

Here are the items I gathered before starting

56 (Jumbo pack) Pampers size 1 diapers
Gel bands (those cheap one's you get in the baby dept of walmart (250 of them for 188))
a pack of receiving blankets (only need 1)
cardboard (I got a thick piece from the cake dept)
2 bottle
Ribbon

So basically I take the diapers (Pampers has elmo on the back) roll them so Elmo is faceing out and use a gel hair band to hold them. I get all the diapers rolled first.

Then I take a bottle and fill it with Candy (this is for the mom to eat while in labor (before her water breaks  Or for Dad!)) I place 6-7 diapers around it and tie it off with ribbon (tight but if loose I stick lotion or something in)

Next row is about 18 diapers. I usually take 5 and tie them together then stack the remaining diapers around 10/13 around and tie them tight with ribbon

Final row (bottom and largets) Is the remaining 30-32 diapers. I do just as I did the middle row. NOW...after you get them tight try and stick a bottle in the middle (If you can't..pull the middle diaper out and stick it in) Then put the middle row on top. This with either fit or you will again push the middle diaper out. Trust me you can just squeeze the remaining diapers in somewhere!

The top I just place on. Usually with things hanging off of it later..it will stay but you can hang ribbon down the sides and loop it through the ribbon from the bottom and middle to hold it tight!

*Now you have your cake!*

The base is wrapped like a present with a receiving blanket using push pins on the bottom!

Then get creative. Hang things everywhere..put an outfit or a stuffed animal on top. YOu can do all sorts of things.

Mine had 2 bibs, 2 pacifiers, duck rattle, 2 teethers, another bottle, hand sanitiser, lotion, and oil all hanging off of it or stuck into it. I then placed the extra receiving blankets (Mine was a pack of 5), scrap baby words (She scraps), pack of sleepers, and wipes on the extra space on the cardboard.

It is a lot of fun and if you have any questions please ask! You can find me on IM, Yahoo, and MSN (jaynemerry or jaynebricker) I only use the jaynemerry one on AIM (maiden name!)

I have to say that this mommy loved it. She said she didn't want to take it apart. I told her the top wasn't totally attached so if she wanted to just keep it as a keepsake she could! I didn't want all that stuff to go to waste!
