My sister is turning 30 in less than 2 weeks. Her BF is moving back from Japan a week before (next Friday) and he and I are trying to plan something. Right now, we are thinking of doing a family dinner and then sending an Evite to all of her friends for whom we have email addresses asking them to join us at a bar where her favorite band is playing. Basically, the whole plan is around seeing this band. :) (Oh, and the Evite will tell people to pass it along to people we might not be able to send the original email. But the Evite has about 40 people on it right now.)

I am going to call the bar next week to see if there is any sort of area that we can have to set up/serve a cake (I've never been there so I'm not sure) and I'm going to try to coordinate ahead of time w/ the band to sing Happy Birthday.

I am trying to think of a few other things that might make it more special or something we could have people do. I could get her a t-shirt and have people sign it? Or a book where people could write a message or share a special story about her?

Anyone have any ideas?

(I would try to push her BF to propose, but...well, that's just not nice! :locolaugh ) (And I hope he will by then or the next day, her actual birthday, anyway. :)

What about having people email funny stories to you and you could compile them into a book for her? You could have it at the party so they could sign it and so other people not on the email list could add their comments, too.

Something fun that we did for our wedding instead of a guest book was to take polaroid pics, stuck the pic on a page (I made a special album for it), and then had them sign the page under their pic. You could just do digital pics and put it together later; just have them sign a page while they're there. We still like to look at our guest book. :)

I like all of those ideas. What about arranging for one of the friends with a decent camera to be able to take a picture of everyone together, and then one of those write-on photo mats like they do for weddings sometimes? :dunno:

I think a fun thing is to put a list of things she has to do around her neck by the end of the night.

I was made to do this and it was so fun....a few things on the list I had to do where:

- Do an Elaine in the chinese restuarant episode. I had to go up to a stranger and eat food off there plate with out saying a word to them
- I had to go to the bathroom in the mens toilet
- I had to do the chicken dance infront of complete strangers
- I had to convince someone to buy a round of drinks for all of us.

etc etc.. it was great fun. I still have my list with the ticks on it to this day.

ETA: I also have a photo of me completing every task and we all have a good laughing looking back at those photos :heee:
