View Full Version : Potty situation-what would you do!?

So, I was on a walk w/ the boys this afternoon. We're on a walking trail at the park, a good 30-35 minutes from the car and about 40 from a bathroom. Alex starts doing the potty dance and says he has to go NOW! I'm curious what everyone would do, so for fun I'll make it a poll. I'm sure this is going to happen a lot this summer on parks, trails, etc. I did have him go before we left home so I tried to avoid it:scan:
Any interesting stories to share?

Every boy has to learn how to pee against a tree at some point, why not now? (and yes, every girl needs to learn how to find a convenient bush or hide behind a car door too, I'm an equal opportunity peer!)

If we were that far from the car/potty, I'd definitely tell him to pee on a tree or rock.

We just did this yesterday. We were at a park and there wasn't a bathroom nearby and both kids had to go. I just took them over by some trees and they went.

Maggie has learned to squat.
I learned an important message about this the first time she did it, though. She told me she had to go to the bathroom, so I told her what to do. She dropped trou, squatted and nothing happened. I asked her what was happening and she said she was going. Um, she didn't have to pee...

In that situation, definitely let him pee!
My problem is that Harry would rather pee outdoors then on a toilet  We've been having issues with leaving somewhere with a toilet (shopping centre, restaurant etc) and him announcing that he has to pee as soon as I've strapped Sam into the car :tearhair: My choices there are to get everyone back out of the car and go back inside, let him pee on the side of the road or make him hold it till we get home. If we're close to home (within 5 minutes) I'll make him hold it b/c he has to learn that peeing outdoors is a last resort, not a preferred choice! But that's not always an option, so we do a lot of outdoor peeing

Aidan lives to pee outside. I think he tries to time it sometimes so he has to go outside!! It's only come up with Colin a few times, but he was very excited about the opportunity too. :screwy:
I had this happen once when I was babysitting our friend's son, before Aidan was PT'd. I was in a panic and I finally found a tree to let him go. I couldn't decide if I should tell the mom, if I'd done something bad. In the end I told her b/c was afraid the boy would. She just laughed and said of course she would have done the same. But I had no idea if it was okay or not!

This just happened to us last week. We were walking home from the train and Emma had to go. Nothing in sight except a single bush, right in front of a church, on a majorly busy road. So tons of commuters driving by saw my daughter peeing on church property.
Hey, ya gotta do what you gotta do!

Madelynn enjoys peeing in the grass. So much so she taught Ava how to do it. They think it's fun to do it in our backyard.

I've had the girls pee in the grass/behind a bush or wherever. The first summer Addison was potty trained, she got so excited about peeing in the grass one time that she asked if she could do it every time we were outside.
ETA: Not sure what I'd do if it was #2. Hold it in kid!
