I could have sworn I posted on this, but I can’t find it if I did.

Okay…warning...this is pretty gross.

Colin has always been a big pooper. We’re constantly flabbergasted at the size of what comes out of him. Well, now that he’s PT’d it’s becoming a problem…he keeps on blocking toilets. :disbelief He was nearly batting 100% at our house for a few weeks there, did it at our friends house, at a resteraunt w/ my mom last week and now today it happened at school. I did mention this size issue to the pedi at his 3 year well visit which was just as he was PTing, and she said it could change once he was PT'd but if not to call her. So I am going to call her back to see if she thinks we should try a stool softener or something. Once in a while we can tell he struggles to go, and none of my kids are super-regular…meaning, not every day poopers. They never have been. But it’s not that he’s having problems going. It’s just really big when he does go.

Has anyone faced anything like this, and if so, what did you do?

Cayla does it occasionally. But it's only once a month or so. :dunno:

I'd think a stool softener would be the most obvious answer. Well besides increasing the bran in his diet. :dunno:

 Sorry.

Norah isnt potty trained, but she poops out these giant freaking grapefruits and it flabbergasts us. I dont have any idea how that big thing gets out of her tiny bum!
Anyway...we've found that feeding her Benefiber (tasteless, totally soluable), 1TB, 3x/day totally helps soften her poops and helps her go more frequently. It took a few days to regulate her once we started the regimine, though. And the great thing about Benefiber is that I can put it in pancakes, oatmeal, over cold cereal (and then just stir it up), or in her milk. :aok: and she never suspects a freaking thing. And its a natural solution, unlike stool softener, which your body can get used to and end up being dependent on

Karri, do you get this at a natural food store? I think this is what I need for Emma. SHe holds her poop in and they get so big. :(

I am going to the store tonight so I'll try this Benefiber stuff and throw some in his milk.

The whole thing *is* a little funny, but it's also embarrassing. I mean, our friend had to run out to buy a new plunger in the middle of a party b/c of it...

I'm snickering like a 12 year old at this thread.

I hope the Benefiber helps. :crossfing It sounds like he'll be the envy of his jr high friends some day.

 Alyssa

Benefiber is right next to the Metamucil and Citrucel. I wish they had it when I was pregnant, because I had to choke down the nasty orange chalky crap (aka Citrucel!)

Mason does that sometimes too. But his poops don't usually seem to be "too tough" as they have occasionally in the past.

Those are Mason's words. "That was a tough one Mommy! I showed that poop who's boss!" Okey dokey then. :aok:

:locolaugh :lol2: This is just too funny.

In all seriousness though, my cousin had this problem when she was little. They had to keep latex gloves in the bathroom drawer for her to.....ummm....break it up with before she flushed. Otherwise she plugged the toilet every single time she had a b.m.

*snickering*

My BF's son can fill the potty with his BM. He won't sit on the toilet. He just turned 4.

O M G It happens here ALL the freaking time, and it's not just Riley. Kaleb and Jacob are horrible about it. Part of it is our low-flow toilets. Yeah, we can conserve water, but we can't flush our crap all the way down

Riley eats the Benefiber chewables everyday with her vitamins. She thinks they are yummy

resurrecting this to help my best friend...

Jen just called to ask my advice in dealing with her 7 yr old nephew. Her brother, SIL and their kids now live across the street from her, and she watches her nephew 3 evenings a week. She said he is still pooping in his pants occasionally. :puke: (Her neices are 12, and did it until they were 6.) We were discussing the pros & cons of "tough love" vs. "positive reinforcement" to get him going on the toilet more, and she mentioned that he & his sisters will often plug up their toilet at home with their massive movements. I remembered this thread, and thought I'd bring it back up for some advice.

I did tell her that I think her brother & SIL need to take him to the ped to make sure there isn't a medical reason he isn't making it. Personally, she & I both think it's laziness, and she said his parents are just ignoring it and buying him new underpants. She said they will sometimes ground him, but that's it. :disbelief: Anyway, she's going to make sure he gets more fiber/bran in his diet to see if that gets him a bit more regular, and I also suggested she treat him like she did her son during PT'ing...tell him to sit on the potty every hour or so, and especially about 20 minutes after dinner.

I'm going to call her about adding Benefiber, and any other advice ya'll have would be great!

ETA: she also mentioned that there is a distinct "strong" odor that is unlike anything else, so we're betting on this being a dietary issue. She now has to have one of her chairs cleaned because of the smell!!! I told her she needs to bill her brother for it.
