ebay WWYD?

Here's the scenario: I won this auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9118906250&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1 on March 25. Paid immediately through paypal. Got the DVD a little over a week ago, watched the first 5-10 minutes, and it was fine. Left positive feedback (mistake I know) at that time.

When the girls watched it later that day, there is one scene that stops and pixelates, scene 17 I think. Anyway, it happens every single time, on different DVD players, so I know it's the DVD. The auction said she has a 30 day return policy, so I emailed her last Saturday (April 8) explaining what was wrong and that I'd like to return it for a refund. As of today, no response. I emailed her again and told her to respond by April 19 or I'm going to contact ebay.

Assuming she doesn't respond, since the item is covered under PayPal's Protection thing, should I file for a refund from PayPal? Is it eligible under these circumstances? Once I had bid on this item and then realized it was a previously viewed DVD and that her feedback comments are private, I should have retracted my bid, but I didn't want that on our profile.

ugh. This is the first time something has happened like this. The seller has thousands of feedback and a 99.6% positive, so I'm sure this is just a glitch that she hasn't emailed me back yet.

What would you do?

Could it be that the disc is just dirty in that section? (worse scenario is that it's scratched in that spot) Try to clean it with a non-abrasive cloth and see if that solves the problem.

I'd try and contact her one more time. Then I'd take it to paypal.

Saw it on the Chicken Little dvd. :) They are also releasing Dumbo again. One of them I know was set to be released Oct. 6th. Can't remember which one now. I think Mermaid though. :scratch:

Just checked... it's Oct. 3rd for TLM and June 6th for Dumbo. :aok:

Mandi, yeah, I learned that the day AFTER I bought this on ebay. :rolleyes: Dumbo is coming out June 6, and Mermaid is in October. :woo:

It's definitely a scratch, I can see it on the reverse side of the disc. If I get my money back, I'll tell the girls we have to wait for a new one...they already know Ariel is "broken", so I'll get the real deal in the fall!

Good news...she sent our refund today, and responded to my email that I didn't need to worry about sending it back and apologized! :woo:

Mandi, yeah, I'd left +++ before watching the whole DVD (which I won't do again if I ever buy a used DVD), so I'm feeling good about the whole transaction now.

Oh duh, that's right. :lol: Well anyway, I'm glad it all worked out. I could totally see how she could have made the transaction go south by refusing to switch the disc or reimburse you.

Amy, before you give up on the DVD, go buy a DVD/CD cleaning kit from Walmart. It is a small circle-thing the size of a CD and there is a spray cleaner included for the play side of the CD/DVD. You spray the disc and then place it in the kit and close it. There is something on the outside that will turn the disc inside and that will clean it. I have NEVER had a CD/DVD that was damaged worse than what the cleaning kit will fix. Give it a try - I bet it works!
