My angst continues... I also have to pick a mantel style for the fireplace. I'd love to see everyone's fireplaces, so I can get some ideas for the style as well as some decorating ideas!

Here are pictures of our fireplaces in our new house.

It's kind of hard to see the one in the livingroom but I have a big plant in the middle that flows over the front of it and a horn of plenty and pictures of the kids together and one of DH and I together on our wedding day. There is also a book on there that has pictures of all the different seasons of the year that I love to show off when I have company. Ignore the junk on the floor around it. We just moved in, plus my daughter is clumsy so that's the reason for the huge "ugly" purple pillow on the floor.

The other fireplace is in our den. You can tell it's not being used right now. It's just amongst a bunch of tools and clutter that has yet to be put up since we just moved in 2 weeks ago.

Resurrecting this thread. I want to redo our fireplace, maybe by using tile that will coordinate with the tile we're putting on the kitchen floor. Seeking inspiration. . . please show us your fireplace, or let me know if you know of a cool website with pictures. I googled but didn't really come up with much, sadly.

Thanks!

This is mine. Of course, it's probably nothing like what any of you have in mind, but it's a fireplace none the less

Yeah, I'll post mine but I doubt it'll give you any inspiration. Sort of boring and 90s. :lol:http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5d827b3127cce925d401dc8b300000016108AbsWLFk0YtR

You can see a close up of our tiles here

I'm not crazy about the tile surround and would love to redo it but it's not a top priority in our house. If we did ever redo it we'd probably go with something like soapstone. Have you ever looked into that?

This serves as no inspiration whatsoever.....in fact this should be titled "What not to dress a mantel in"! I have the typical tract home fireplace and mantel. It's located in the family room and we use it a lot.

I'm laughing at myself so I don't die of embarrassment......

I'm married to a sport fanatic and can't wait for the damn basement to be finished. It's going to be a very pretty mantel and room someday soon!

Becky, you're a better wife than I am. I'm married to a sport fanatic also and there is no way in hell that I'd let Jeff do that to our mantle. We have those bobble head dolls also but we have the Redskin ones. They're the McDonald's ones right? I've promised Jeff that when we finish the basement, he can put some of his sports crap out. I'm dreading the day.

Here's what ours looks like - it's kind of blurry, sorry. We're getting rid of the brass fireplace thing next year and going with a black iron instead. I want something that is more natural looking and blends in better. Our entire wall is rock. I really like it. We have another rock wall in the basement, then our foyer flooring is the same type of rock (as well as the outside of the house).

This is what the family room with the fireplace in it used to look like, when we bought the house about 1.5 years ago.......

This is what it looks like now (the red wall color is a bit distorted..it's more like a deep red with a hint of brick in it), after we redid it:

AWESOME re-do ... it totally opens the room up ... and makes it look twice the size ... i would post ours ... but it is in a "state of needing re-do" ... before/after pics to follow ...

Hey! At least you don't have a huge glass entertainment center with all kinds of Nascar die casts in it! I guess I should be thankful I get the other half for my frames and stuff.

You'd be mortified if you saw the other stuff in this room. Pictures of Bronco cheerleaders, a pic of my nephew playing hockey, a shadow box with more junk of the Avs Stanly Cup win, 8 collector Bronco plates, a large John Elway picture (brand new from Xmas~thanks inlaws) and a sketched picture of Joe Montana that he bought me for my bday several years ago (to keep me tied to my roots).

You should see how many Nascar diecasts we have and guess where they all are? In the basement, which isn't even finished. :heee: They're all still in their boxes too. Does Jim want anymore? I'm trying to talk Jeff into selling a bunch of his.
