View Full Version : Napping help needed!!

The girls share a room, and have done so without any major issues since Molly was 6 weeks old. Now that Emily is 3, she's napping less and less frequently. For the last week or two, I think she's napped only 2-3 times. Granted, those were 3 hour naps :ura1: but on the days she doesn't nap, she sits in bed playing and it takes Molly a long time to fall asleep.

Molly will be two in a few weeks, and desperately still needs her afternoon nap. She didn't get a nap yesterday or today, and late this afternoon she was quite the crankpuss.

Any advice on how to get her to nap without Emily there? When she would still go down for morning naps, she would cry "want my Em'ly!!" for about 15-20 minutes before finally going to sleep. I just know this is going to be a battle. I've been putting them both down at the same time, and then if Emily is still awake and getting louder after 1/2 hr or so, then I'll open the door and beckon her out quickly so Molly can keep sleeping. Tomorrow they'll be at my mom's while I'm in school, and I've already warned Mom that Emily is starting to give up her nap. At my parents' house, Molly naps upstairs and E has quiet time downstairs, so M won't know if E doesn't nap. Tuesday is what I'm dreading!!

TIA!!!

Hmm, that's a tough one. She wants Emily in there, but then she takes longer to fall asleep because Emily's playing, right? But then if Emily's not in there, she's crying for her? Rock meet hard place.

What if you have tell her that Emily will "read" a story to her (with you, maybe?) and then after that you're going to go have your quiet time in another room and it will be time for her to fall asleep without you guys. Does she respond to "big girl" stuff? You could play up how she gets to be a big girl and take a nap all by herself, just like her big sister used to. You could even try a sticker chart (not sure if she's too young for that still?) along with the big girl stuff.

I don't know if that would help at all, but it's all I can come up with right now. Sorry. :blush1:
