I LOVE my Maytag front loader (stackable washer and dryer unit). It's about 3 years old now and it's wonderful. I can fit alot more stuff in it.

Also, I can use 1/2 the detergent that a normal washer uses.

We bought a Kenmore (from Sears) Energy Star model a couple months ago. I like it! In addition to the other benefits, it's very quiet. Price was a bit of a concern, but we waited for a big pre-Christmas sale, used a store coupon and a rebate from the power company, and after that we figured we'd make up the difference in reduced electric bills.

My dad said front-loading washers can leak. I haven't had a leaking problem, but sometimes water sort of accumulates in the seal during use and drips onto the floor when I open the door. It's not a big deal though. And the controls are in the front, so my daughter plays with the knobs any chance she gets. But I'm still very happy with the purchase.

We recently bought a new front-loading washer and dryer (when we moved this past November), and I'm thrilled! We have the Maytag Neptune Series, I think. Adding less detergent is great, as is knowing that it's using less energy. So far they've been great...no leaks, no problems at all (they are still pretty new though!). And, my 2 year old can help me do the laundry!

We have the Maytag Neptune front loading washer and dryer and love them both! So much easier to use than what pieces of junk we had before.

I have a front loading washer and dryer (and pardon my ignorance but aren't all dryers front loading?) My washer has never leaked and I love it. :)

One thing though make absolutely sure you are using High Efficiency laundry detergent otherwise the bearings will get wrecked and cost you a fortune to fix. At least that's what the guy who hooked ours up said.

We have the Neptune and we love it! You can put so much into it! WOO HOO! And it spins the heck out of your clothes (gently) so they don't have to dry as long.

These look nice but DH said we will never own one. Being the plumber he is everything is based on plumbing and he said once the seal leaks it can ruin your floor, something about the chances are alot higher with these.

But they use so much less water. They never fill up, they just have a little water in the bottom that the clothes slosh through as they spin around. It would be 100 times worse if your regular washer overflowed or leaked.

We didn't have to pay sales tax on ours when we bought it ($1900 for the set so tax was almost $100). It was a perk because it was environmentally friendly because of the amount of water it will conserve.

Check the Water District (or where ever you pay the bill) you might get a rebate for energy efficiency. :)

It was really important for us to get a front loading washing machine because they are so good on water consumption, and where I am from (Australia) is having a major water shortage.

I love mine (whirlpool) - the clothes come out so clean, we can fit more into it and apparently it is better quality on your delicates.:supergrin

We bought a Samsung cascade washer which I love! It doesn't have the spiral in the centre that damages clothes, instead it throws water cascades and it turns everything around. It's quiet but it is not quick, the medium load takes more than 45min but it is worthy ;) It has a cycle called "fuzzy" that, according to the load, it automatically determines the temperature and timing it needs.

We also bought a Whirpool dryer which works very well :aok:
