View Full Version : Overalls and your potty trained child..
Mandi March 31st, 2006, 10:51 PM Do you let them wear them?
I haven't let Micayla wear any overalls in the last year. I just envision her not getting them off in time and having an accident. But maybe I'm overreacting? There are so many cute overall outfits out there and I'd love to let her wear them.
If you do let your potty trained child wear overalls- how long did you wait until after they were fully potty trained to let them wear them?
(Dennis.. feel free to move this if you think it'd fit somewhere else better)
gulp! March 31st, 2006, 10:54 PM I'm with you Mandi- the minute the undies went on, the overalls went out the door. She's got a cute pair that's still hanging in her closet, too. :(
Emma's been trained for almost a year, but I'm just not confident yet that overalls wouldn't make a difference in her making it to the potty.
sheila March 31st, 2006, 11:00 PM Same here. The same goes for snap crotch items. Anne sent an outfit that I just adore last year, but Maggie has never had the chance to wear because I am afraid of the snap crotch.
There is even a part of me that is hoping Katie will put off PT long enough to fit in it. :shuffle:
Mandi March 31st, 2006, 11:02 PM Oh I stopped doing the snap crotch stuff like onesies at about 18 months. I hate them.
TtownAnne March 31st, 2006, 11:02 PM Hmmm, which outfit was that? (PS, 'nother box coming your way FINALLY!)
Like the others, overalls were gone once we hit potty status. Esp. because her preschool required that the clothes be "easy to deal with" for the teachers who helped with bathroom breaks.
Jayne April 1st, 2006, 11:15 AM I am with you. When she potty trained I stopped wearing them but I have started to use them again when she is with me. Like if we are out for a day of shopping or if I am with her at a friends home. Even when I am baby-sitting because if I am there I can help her and she is really good about asking for help if she needs. it. I have also taught her how to take them off without unbuckling them
Karri April 1st, 2006, 02:37 PM No snap crotch stuff, but we do overalls. But NOT at school. At school, they require that they be able to undress/redress by themselves and Aidan can't quite get overalls back on by himself. Aidan doesnt have accidents, though, so its a bit different. And he never waits till the last minute to pee, either. So its a bit different. Anyway....at home.
Alyssa April 1st, 2006, 02:39 PM No overall here anymore.
Bonnie April 1st, 2006, 10:33 PM No overalls here for a LONG time.
Alyssa April 1st, 2006, 11:17 PM Actually - a related question. At what age do you think overalls are too young-looking for a child. Or maybe I should say - how old will your kids be and still wear them? Does it matter if they are a boy v. a girl?
Nadine April 2nd, 2006, 01:00 AM Same here- the moment they are able to go to the potty/toilet themselves it is just unfair to put them in overalls IMO. Why make them struggle with something or take away their independence we want to teach them regarding PT?
Nadine April 2nd, 2006, 01:01 AM Alysia - age issues never occured to me regarding overalls. They are simply not practical once the kids are PT.
Lissa April 2nd, 2006, 01:05 AM Other one here who stopped Overalls once Alex became pt'd. I have a fear of an emergency!
As for age...I think any age is okay and maybe once Alex is 5 or so, we'll wear them again!
Theresa April 2nd, 2006, 07:08 AM Ellie has a pair that I let her wear when we're home or I'm with her. Not to school because she has to be able to take herself to the bathroom there. At home, I can help her.
RE: Age and overalls. I think little kids are just adorable in them, so I'll let them wear them as long as they want to.
Nocona April 2nd, 2006, 05:55 PM Matthew hasn't worn them since he was PTd either. His friend wears them and I think they make him look really young (probably the style - the same kid with the knee patches). I think girls tend to look cuter in them for longer :dunno:
DarcyT April 4th, 2006, 12:15 PM I stopped putting anything that snapped in the crotch on my kids once they started training. I wanted it as easy as possible for them. I am glad that for girls atleast I can buy the overall dress and that keeps it simple for them to go potty. :heee: I prefer dresses on my daughter anyway while I can still manage to get them on her.
