I went and placed a deposit on Aidens birthday party, its going to be at the Wiggly Play Centre (http://www.wigglyplaycentre.com.au)

I get to chose 4 items from the first list and 2 items from the second list. What would you order.

(the package already includes Popcorn & lollies on the tables)

DOROTHY DELIGHTS (4 items)

Mini donuts
Fairy Bread
Sprinkle Ice-cream
Cheese sticks
Sliced fruit
Wiggly biscuits
Cheezels
Potato chips
Chocolate crackles
Ice blocks
Mini muffins
Meringues
DOROTHY MEAL (2 items)

Sausage rolls
Mini pizzas
Chicken nuggets
Party pies
Potato smiles
Macaroni cheese
Fish bites
Sandwich quarters

I am in two minds about it, I want to chose some healthy stuff, but on the other hand the only time I let my kids go all out on junk is at a party and they don't happen everyday, so I thought of just getting fun junky foods...what would you do?

Thanks in advance.

Oh and if a moderator is reading this PLEASE fix my spelling error in the title, I am shuddering looking at it :errr:

I would probably pick pizzas and chicken nuggets from the second list because kids love those and they will be too excited to sit to eat; these are almost more like finger foods.

What is Fairy Bread? I would probably pick ice cream, chips, donughts and cheesies from the first list. I think anything will be fine really. :)

Here are my choices:

First list:

~Ice cream
~Cheezels (which I'm assuming are like Cheese doodles? :dunno: )
~Chocolate crackles

Second list:
~Chicken nuggets (can never go wrong with those)
~Sandwich quarters.

HTH! :)

I would choose:

Fairy Bread
Sliced fruit
Cheezels
Chocolate crackles

Mini pizzas
Chicken nuggets

I included fruit because there are a lot of kids around here that love to eat fruit. It's nice to have alternatives to junk food. Wiggly Play Centre looks like an awesome place to have a party.

From the first list:

mini donuts
fairy bread
fruit
chocolate crackles (what is this???)
Second List:

mini pizzas
chicken nuggets or
with sausage rolls being a close second (are these like sausage wrapped in a biscuit??)

Mandi

I think I'd chose:

Sliced fruit (got have at least one semi healthy choice, right? ;) )
mini donuts
cheese sticks (my girls LOVE them)
chocolate crackles

Mini pizza
Chicken nuggets

I almost put Mac N Cheese. That would be a close 3rd. I think every kid loves that stuff.

Chocolate crackles are made with Kellogs Rice Bubbles.

you are all thinking along the same line as me... I like the idea of fruit, my kids LOVE fruit too so its fun for them to eat and it might help with the other parents seeing I am not only offering junk

MrsPeacefrog

I also have the option to supply a platter of something for the adults... would you do that? there is a cafe there for the adults to get drinks and food at if they want it, but I thought it might be nice for me to supply something....

Wedges & Sour Cream $19.50 (USD13.85)

Savoury Platter $19.00 (USD13.50)

Dessert Platter $23.00 (USD16.30)

Fresh Fruit Platter $19.50 (USD13.85)

Pastizzis Platter $15.00 (USD10.65)

Focaccia Platter $23.50 (USD16.70)

Sandwich Platter $21.50 (USD15.30)

What time is the party?? If it's around lunch time I would provide something for them to eat and drink.

I don't normally go the healthy route either but I do know what my kids like and from these lists I would pick

DOROTHY DELIGHTS (4 items)

Sprinkle Ice-cream
Cheese sticks
Sliced fruit
Wiggly biscuits
DOROTHY MEAL (2 items)

Mini pizzas
Chicken nuggets

Then I would probably bring in a cake!

Melissa

For the parents I would probably provide a sandwich platter.

I like the idea of having fruit as one option, especially since kids usually love it and it is a healthier choice. Besides, if it doesn't go over with the kids, the parents can have some too!

I agree with chicken nuggets and pizza for the meal.

The party starts at 10:30 - 12:30, the food is served at 11:00 through to 12:00

Yeah I am thinking a platter of some sort for the parents is probably a good idea... I was thinking either the focaccia one, or the pastizzi's..

And yes there is a cake too..

Clare

Well seeming as I'm the only one experienced in Australian children's parties, fairy bread is a must  It's not a party without fairy bread :)

I would choose:

Fairy Bread
Sliced Fruit
Cheezels
Mini Muffins
Sausage Rolls
Chicken nuggets

and either a sandwich or foccacia platter for the parents.

Do they provide a cake or are you bringing one?

This is off topic but how do they keep the sprinkles on the bread?

Ditto Clare's menu

Michele

I agree with Clare's menu since she's the expert! (I would have probably substituted mini pizzas for the sausage rolls, but maybe they have more appeal to Australian children).

I think it is a good idea to have something for the parents. I have been to kids parties that didn't and it seemed kind of weird to me. (or maybe it is just b/c I'm pregnant and always hungry at the moment).

What are wedges and sour cream?

Clare
March 28th, 2006, 06:53 PM
Lisa - the sprinkles stick to the butter.

Michelle - wedges are fried potatoes, they're usually served with sour cream and sweet chilli sauce :lick: They're very decadent, I try to avoid them if possible!

Butter? interesting.. mmmm we have wedge fries here but never thought of serving with sour cream :pant:

DOROTHY DELIGHTS

Fairy Bread
Cheese sticks
Sliced fruit
Mini muffins
DOROTHY MEAL

Sausage rolls
Chicken nuggets
I was all set to choose mini pizzas, but since Clare chose sausage rolls, I figured kids must like them (right? :heee: ). When I was choosing, I kept thinking about things my kids would eat, as well as finger foods...not incredibly messy foods, since you tend to dress kids nicer for b-day parties and they also tend to sit for, oh, 2.5 seconds, even when eating.

Clare
March 28th, 2006, 11:00 PM
I normally do mini pizzas and sausage rolls at my kids parties, so I don't think you can go wrong with either. I think more kids would eat sausage rolls though. I know my picky kids will only eat pizza with ham and cheese, if they see a hint of a vegetable they won't touch it!

Alyssa

Are the sausage rolls anything at all like a hot dog, or is a hot dog there just like ours in the US? I ask b/c I can't imagine my kids eating a sausage roll. :dunno:

Alyssa
March 28th, 2006, 11:17 PM
I like having a few healthier things. I'm not at all against junk at a kids party, but since you have so many choices, it wouldn't be bad to mix it up a little.

DOROTHY DELIGHTS (4 items)

Fairy Bread (since it seems the norm there!)
Sliced fruit
Cheezels
Potato chips

DOROTHY MEAL (2 items)

Mini pizzas
Chicken nuggets
(or the sausage rolls if the kids there like them...bottom line, nothing you need utensils for!)

Clare
March 28th, 2006, 11:18 PM
No, not hotdogs. More of a meat filled pastry.

No, not hotdogs. More of a meat filled pastry.I'm IMing with Deb and she explained that too. So interesting to hear the differences!!

MrsPeacefrog
March 28th, 2006, 11:23 PM
The meat in a sausage roll is kind mixed with breadcrumbs and then wrapped in the puff pastry....

I should have thought about the fact that some of these items would have been foreign....

Alyssa and I are having a great conversation about the difference between Rice Krispie treats and Rice Crackles

:wow:

BTW my husband just shook his head and can't believe I am ACTUALLY having a conversation about Rice Crackles....

 who knew that you guys wouldn't have the same ingredients as us

CLARE: to answer your question, yes a sponge cake is in the package but I am paying extra for a themed cake, I can chose any of the wiggles characters or props. I will probably do "the big red car" because he has been talking about having a red cake for his birthday for AGES.

MamaGoofy
March 29th, 2006, 10:14 AM
Rice Krackles and Rice Krispy treats are NOT the same??? You have to be kidding me!! What's the difference..now that you two have brought it up. ;)

MrsPeacefrog
March 30th, 2006, 12:18 AM
Rice crackles do not have marshmellow in them.

Rice crackles are made out of:

Rice bubbles
Icing sugar
Cocoa
Shredded Coconut
Copha

Copha is the ingredient which Alyssa and I figured out you guys don't have in the States. Its the solid fat from coconut oil. Which when making ricecrackles you melt and pour into all the other ingredients stir it all up and then put it in the fridge, the Copha helps it set solid.

Those Fairy Bread thingies are the cutest things!!!!

And I'm going to start calling sprinkles 100's and 1000's. Those are much funnier names! Here I think the names vary regionally. In KC they are sprinkles but my friends from the south said they called them jimmies.

MrsPeacefrog
March 30th, 2006, 01:34 AM
 Bridget

We have sprinkles here but they are the ones that look like micro miniture logs..

100's and 1000's are the mini ball variety.

You can use either for fairy bread but the tradition use for it is 100's and 1000's

What a cool place!!! I wish we had something like that here. I'd be broke by now.

I agree with some of the others on the menu options. Just go with what your child likes especially and then from there pick more I guess. I wouldn't buy things for the adults. Since it's a child's party you are only really responsible for the children in the group.
