My husband adopted my 13 year old daughter. It was all finalized on Friday. We were all excited for her to share the same name as the rest of the family. She has always considered him as her father, but now it is actually acknowledged by all. Her biological hasn't been around for quite some time. :noqueno: My husband and I have 2 children together (we have been married for 7 1/2 yrs). My husband was also adopted as a young child (6 years old). :ura1:

Thanks Ladies!
Joan...how did you go about changing your son's last name in school without causing too much grief. This is my daughter's biggest concern because she doesn't want a lot of questions from her peers.

Congratulations!! I adopted my DH's daughter just last year. I've been her mom since she was 4. My DH and I also have a son together.

We will be celebrating 'A-day' in April.

Best wishes to your family.

For Sean, the adoption and name change happened during the summer. We gave the school a court document about the name change and I remember it being easy. I'm not sure what kind of questions he had. I think he just said "I got adopted by my step-dad" and that was enough.

I think I may change the name before school ends. She will be going into a new school next year. The 8th and 9th graders have a new school to keep the ratio down. I am afraid that if I wait till summer, administration will screw it up ad cause loads of confusion. What do you think?

That is a great idea.

Congratulations.. My hubby adopted my son from my first marriage in June of 03 ( he was 5 ) as far as the last name goes... not an issue as the teachers knew and it was during the summer so he just came back with a new last name and as far as the kids were concerned, his sister was born that same august so it went hand in hand.. no problems...

My daughter started using her new last name on her own...which suprised me. I think the transition will be easier than I thought. Thank God!
