Mind if I move this to the new group journals forum? ;) (not that this is an inappropriate forum for it, but maybe you could win the contest!)

I'll re-introduce myself first. :heee:

1.What is your name and family stats? (babies names, ages, etc...)
(ETA: Feel free to post pics! )

I'm Dawn, married to James (5 yrs. in June). We have 2 beautiful girls:
Alexia Marie - almost 4 yrs. old (March 25th) and
Angelina Nicole - almost 16 mos. on March 26th

http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b6dc30b3127cce9773f43d21d400000016108EZt2zNozai
2) How long have you been a SAHM?
For 4 yrs. and 1 mo. :) However, I recently got myself a very p/t job in the evenings at TRU (this past Dec. It was actually suppose to be for seasonal only...but they liked me so much, they wanted me to stay permanent.) I mainly did it as 'an escape' and to get out of the house. And let me tell ya...it's one of the best things I coulda done for myself (and my family). A happy mommy makes for a happy home. ;)

2a) If your a WAHM for how long and what do you do?
n/a
3) What did you do before this wonderful new job?
I was in corporate america. I worked for the president of a waste management company. I was an executive assistant. I really loved my job. :)

4) What does DH/SO do?
He is a Union Ironworker.

5) What are your priorities for each day? Where do you feel you need the most help with motivation in getting things done each day?
My priorities each day are my children. Dressing them, feeding them are the basics of course...but most importantly playing with them, spending time with them....very important.

6) What do you hope to get out of this journal?
To chill and chat with the other mommies here. We were a little tight group in the other journal, and hope to see some new faces as well! We don't bite! :heee: I'm one to do little lists and such (i'm such a list maker...on here and IRL on paper) so getting things done are important to me. I'm such a procrastinator too....another reason why I need to do lists!

I started a new journal in the group journal section. I didn't see you had started this already, Dawn. :shuffle: Sorry.

Here's the link: http://www.onceuponalife.com/forums/showthread.php?p=788380#post788380

We can always close that one if you want to keep the journal in this forum.

The two threads can be merged if you'd like. :)

ETA: The group journal forum would be more private than this one, since this forum is open to unsubbed members. I don't know if you have any people in here that aren't subbed, so that may or may not matter.

Dawn
March 20th, 2006, 03:53 PM
Yea, I think a merge may be a good thing Nichole. :)

Wow...my head must be in the sand. Had no idea about any contest, etc.

Theresa - It's probably best that we have the SAHM group journal in the group journal section. THen use this forum for questions, etc. how we normally do. :)

I am proud of myself if I can manage to get the laundry done.

6) What do you hope to get out of this journal?
Just like talking to other SAHM's!

So glad your here Hilary, Eva, Sheila, Pam, Anne and Kara! :wavey: We got ourselves a good crowd so far! Hope we don't lose anyone! ;)

Feel free to continue to introduce/re-introduce yourselves....but I'm just gonna line up my to-do list for tomorrow.

Alexia's 4th birthday is quickly approaching and I'm trying to tie up some loose ends this week. Tomorrow I would like to do the following:

DAWN'S TO-DO LIST FOR TUES 3/21

~ ORDER HER CAKE! I would like to get the kind that looks like it's a sheetcake, when in fact it's really cupcakes under it. Has anyone seen this? I love it! I need to find out if the bakery on the way to where her party is being held at does this. If not, we have to decide if we want to get a regular cake from there OR if we really want that cupcake thingie type of cake, I know Pathmark does it.

~ Go to Party City. Need to find a Cinderella centerpiece for the table where the kids are sitting at. I went to Party Fair today and they had 50% off of the plates, napkins, cups and tablecloths :aok: . I also got the favor bags and all that crap. I got spiderman goody bags for the boys. I hope that was a good choice...didn't know if Sponge Bob or Batman or something else would have been better for them.

~ Go to the post office to return some Naartjie stuff.

~ Go to Home Depot to exchange something.

~ Laundry (but what else is new? )

That's pretty much it, besides the basic straightening up around here. If I can get all that stuff done tomorrow, I'll be a very happy woman! Let's see if I can do it! :crossfing:

Oh, and tomorrow (Tues.) is picture day for Alexia at preschool. I'm so excited! She picked out a Gymboree dress that she wants to wear...which is fine, but I hope it's cold cause it's a turtleneck dress and she wears it with the matching boots. We shall see.....

2a) If your a WAHM for how long and what do you do?

From back in 2002 I managed the accounts and payroll for my fathers kitchen joinery company, I go in once a week to do the payroll and manage the office workers.

Since January 2005 we started up a business importing scales from China and selling them on Ebay, I fully take care of that and once Jacob is old enough for a day or two in daycare I will start going to stores to try and sell our products there too.

3) What did you do before this wonderful new job?

I was full time at my fathers business doing accounts and payroll

4) What does DH/SO do?

He does construction/demolition in shopping centres.

5) What are your priorities for each day? Where do you feel you need the most help with motivation in getting things done each day?

My priority in the day is to get the kids settled and kept to a routine, its also a priority for me to actually make through it alive!!! the two older boys do nothing but :catfight:, although its in a happy, wrestling I am a rough tumble boy sense... but it can get over the top at times and I have to be referee constantly. I always have a billion things to do with my business, the kids, aidens dr/speechtherapy/allergy appointments, daycare days, the one day of work a week and the constant phone calls from my family who think because I am a SAHM I have all the time in the world to run there errands

I need the most help in motivation to keep up with the laundry of my 3 boys.. well should I say 4 including my husband.

6) What do you hope to get out of this journal?
to have people around me who know EXACTLY what I go through every day!

4) What does DH/SO do? He works in IT. Don't ask me more than that. It's all over my head.

Today is one of my "break" days (the other one is Thursday), not because I don't have any kids but because I only have one with me since Eliot is at preschool until 3pm which it means no fighting, yelling, tattle telling, etc, at least until we pick Eliot up :ura1: And actually is the day that Ian's naps are the best... maybe because is quiet around here :dunno:

Priorities today are:
~ Go thru some toys in the playroom which looks more like a trashroom than a playroom right now
~ Vaccum the downstairs
~ Put clean/folded clothes away
~ Start/finish the mailout for work

I'm planning to join my friend for lunch today, she's moving to Chicago at the end of this month so we only have a few chances to get together.
Last thing, try to convince Blair that we need to get the stuff for the flower beds this weekend. I'm tired of looking at them, they look awful. Hopefully he'll fell better by then... he's having to deal with a kidney stone right now :mope:

ETA: I would love to get a couple of my digital scrapbooking pages done today :shuffle:

2) How long have you been a SAHM?
Since Alex was born in 2002.

2a) If your a WAHM for how long and what do you do?
When Alex was about 4 months old, I opened my own law firm. I take mostly court appointments in our Juvenile Court System. I work about 5-10 hours a week outside of the home. It's a great gig!

3) What did you do before this wonderful new job? I was chief counsel for a state agency dealing with politics and campaign finance.
4) What does DH do? He is a high school business teacher/coach by degree but he is the office manager of the public defender conflict's office.

5) What are your priorities for each day? Where do you feel you need the most help with motivation in getting things done each day? It depends on our schedule. On days we have plans, it's to get up and get going. On days I have court, it is to get everyone ready for the day while still having fun. On days we have NOTHING to do, we just hang out and play.

6) What do you hope to get out of this journal? Just to get to know some other SAHM's. :) And share ideas on parenting/time management.

Kara, you just reminded me...I need to go through more clothes. Alexia hit a growth spurt (height) and I'm thinking some of the things I THOUGHT would fit her this spring/summer won't.

Hilary, I'll trade ya....I don't mind the folding and putting away actually. It's the actually laundry I despise doing. I never seem to be "done" with laundry, even if I think I am...if that makes sense.

Lisa, that IS an awesome gig you got there! How cool!

Mary, Hope DH feels better soon.... :(

I got alot of things done on my list...not too bad.

DONE! I got 2 cakes each with 20 cupcakes. It's called a pull apart cake (if I'm remembering correctly  )

Try to do tomorrow

~ Go to the post office to return some Naartjie stuff. Try to do tomorrow

~ Go to Home Depot to exchange something. DONE!

~ Laundry (but what else is new? ) Did 2 loads, but still more to do!

That's pretty much it, besides the basic straightening up around here. If I can get all that stuff done tomorrow, I'll be a very happy woman! Let's see if I can do it! :crossfing:

Dawn, I know what you mean. I did laundry Sunday and I swear I just have another load every day!

I got the girls rooms cleaned up. I still have to do mine and finish the laundry. I'm thinking of doing the bathrooms too, because tomorrow I do floors and that takes forever.

Theresa
March 21st, 2006, 03:42 PM
Well, I'm proud to say that I actually got something accomplished today! :ura1: I finally cleaned out DH's dresser and took out all the stuff he doesn't wear or that doesn't fit him any more. I was tempted to just throw it all out, but I know he'll want to go through it, so it's down in the basement. I'm giving him a month to go through and take out what he wants to save and then it's going to charity. My bedroom is such a pit that I'm going to work on it for 15-30 minutes every day until it's done!

Wish me luck! I have an interview for a part time job tomorrow. :)

That's all. I have to go get ready. DH and I are going out to dinner to celebrate our anniversary. Eight years today!! :toast:

Yeah what is the deal with laundry??? I only just did everything in the house bar the bed sheets on Sunday and I already have 2 loads + towels and bedsheets to do today  and 90% of it is the kids and Tony's stuff, they go through so many outfits a day its CRAZY!

So today (which is already half way through) I did the kitchen and folded the last bits of laundry I hadn't folded yet from my Sunday wash.

Tony is on nightshift at the moment so he got home at 9am and I quickly ran down to post off some of our sold items. I then came back and played with the kids outside with the chalk board for a while, then left them to play while I typed up some terms and conditions for our new ebay ad  I hate wording stuff like that.

I just fixed the kids some lunch and BF Jacob and now I am about to go cook Tony lunch (ie dinner) so he can go to bed and get ready for his nightshift again.

The remainder of things I have to do for the day

- Email everyone on my fathers bike tour to wether they need jerseys made or not
- throw on the remainder of the laundry and fold
- program my fathers GPS for his bike tour
- go for a walk to exersise (will be taking the kids to my mothers for her to watch while I do that)
- then usual dinner, bath, bed for the kids and then finally some ME time.

I dont think there is barely enough hours in the day, what do you guys think :hug99:

Hilary, I don't mind doing the laundry & folding is the putting it away that I don't like :tongue2:

Theresa, way to go! Good luck with the interview :crossfing

Deb, you're not kidding definitely not enough hours in the day especially for laundry

Pam, hi! :wavey:

My hubby has an appointment with the urologist tomorrow, he has not passed the stone yet!! Though even if he had he still had to make the app. with the urologist to find out what's causing the stones... this is his 3rd round, this one has been the longest one :( I was suppose to go to my MOPS steer meeting but I have decided that I would feel better if I go with him and find out what the next step is. Not planning a lot to do for tomorrow.

Deb, There are definitely NOT enough hours in the day!

Pam, Thanks!

Mary, for your DH! I didn't know you were a part of MOPS! :yippee: What position do you hold? I'm a Discussion Group Leader in our group. I'm actually considering taking on a co-coordinator role for next year! Our current coordinator is stepping down and they're probably going to break the position up to 2 spots.

My list for today:

Pick up and vacuum living room.
Pick up and vacuum family room
Straighten up bathroom.
Bathe kids. (They were at MIL's last night and her DH smokes. :dead: )
Call Amy, MOPS cooridinator.
Work 15-30 minutes in bedroom.
Interview this afternoon. :errr:

Thanks Theresa :bighug: I've only been in the position for a couple of months. I'm in charge of publicity, do the bi-monthly newsletter and any necessary posters/fliers and help getting playdates setup (getting all the info, announcements about event, etc). I though that I might have to make some fliers because of registration coming up but this group is pretty well known that I will not have to make any at all since the spots left for this coming year will be taken by the people in the waiting list :aok: This is the first time I'm part of a leadership team and it feels great plus the other ladies in the group are really really nice :aok:
Good luck on taking on the different position! :crossfing

Dawn - I LOVE that cake idea!!! So cute!!
Thanks Kara! It really is cute, and a great idea! And easy...no worries about cutting cake, etc. We went to a bday party last year and they had it, and I asked the mother about it....I then said to myself that'll be Alexia's next cake for her birthday! So we ordered 2 different ones for her (One Cinderella and one with the 4 princess on it), because 1 with 20 cupcakes wasn't enough. I will take pics of them on Sat. :)

Help! This is so weird!!!....Would you guys believe that Angelina is still sleeping?! You think it's a growth spurt? She woke up at her usual 8 am. I left her some time before I was going to get her. Before ya know it, maybe 1/2 hr. later...silence. And she's been sleeping ever since. I do remember this happening to Alexia once when she was little and I was worried....everyone was telling me it's prob. a growth spurt. So I sneak and checked up on her...all is fine, she's just snoozing. So much for me getting my errands done today. It's 1:30 in the afternoon, and I figured I'd let her sleep in case her body needs it, right? :dunno: This is just soooo odd! Normally she'd be going in for her nap soon!

Now, my question is...when she wakes up, does she get breakfast or lunch?

Today, I had court first thing...a 30 minute hearing turned into 2.5 hours. YUCK! We missed our playgroup and William's morning nap. He's napping now but will be up much earlier than usual.

I just finished putting together tonights dinner -- it's simmering -- Zouppa Toscanna! This afternoon, my goals are to get the Easter Bunny picture Appt made and cuddle with Alex. :)

OK, so much for getting the things at home done. I came back home after gymnastics to find the street blocked off by fire engines. They are putting in a new sewer line in the alley and hit a gas line at 11:30 am. I came home at noon and told them I would leave as soon as I picked up MIL. They were going home to home and had just reached ours so she was outside. They told me an hour, so we came back an hour later... were told 30-45 mins more. An hour later we were told another hour so we just left and went to a friend's house and just now at 4:30 were let back in the house. We still have an hour until they come by to relight the pilot lights so I made the decision we are going out to dinner.

Anne, what a bummer & how scary at the same time! I'm glad to hear that they fixed it all up :aok:

Cortney, getting off the computer is my major problem too  I have too much fun in here :supergrin

I definitely gotta get the playroom & living room picked up & vacummed.
I need to wipe down the bathroom, I already cleaned it but Eliot always makes a mess around the sink while washing his hands.
I desperately need to organize my VERY messy desk! Not a lot really, just some papers that need organizing/filing I just have to put my mind to it :shuffle:

My Grandpa that is here from Mexico and my Aunt & Uncle are suppose to come by later this afternoon. We're taking Grandpa to a mexican restaurant where there is this guy that plays the harp, my Granpa's Dad use to play the harp so we thought it would be a nice treat for him :)

We went on a long walk by the bay with a mommy group yesterday & ended up doing lunch with them, too. What a gorgeous day! Since we were at the mall, Amelia & I looked at a few things at Bed Bath & Beyond then picked up a few items at the scrapbook store. After that, Starbucks. I think we got home around 4 pm from what started as an 11am walk.

Today I have an appointment at noon. After that, I want to do some laundry & misc. household straightening.

I finished up most of the calls that I was supposed to do yesterday. We went to story time at the library and now it is time for new calls based on what I found out this morning.

I question the guys working in our alley. Not only did they hit the gas line yesterday, they came up to the backdoor today and asked me where our sewer line was in the back... I have no clue?! Isn't that their job?!

Hello, Everyone! :wavey: I had my interview Wednesday. I don't think I did that great. I was really nervous and got all tongue-tied. :duh: I hate when that happens. The woman said she had a few more people to interview and would have her decision by the end of the week. Guess we'll just have to wait and see if she calls.

DH has an interview for a job today. It would be full time (not contract) doing something he really likes. I really hope he gets it.

Here's my list for today.

Go to Bible study this morning.
Fold and put away the laundry in the basement.
Wash and dry the kids' clothes.
Clear off couch in living room.
Work 15-30 minutes in bedroom.

Hi all!

We've been busy lately. Sarah had her first PT appointment on Monday and then she had a makeup session on Thursday (because the PT had to cancel last Thursday). Her PT was thrilled with how much progress she'd made in three days and could tell we've been practicing at home. I'm really happy about that!

Tuesday was our usual movie day (The Shaggy Dog, it was okay, wait for the video). Wednesday I worked and yesterday we went to story time before her PT. The PT was actually working with another child during story time and she worked with Sarah afterwards. Right now PT seems to prompt her to take LONG naps, so I'm liking this added bonus!!!

Today Sarah has another eye checkup. She started crossing her eyes again a few weeks ago, so I want her looked at again. I finally think they've gotten the billing situation straight since last time, so I figured it was okay to bring her back. I'm going to check on that when I'm there and make sure everything is straight.

I really need to get off my butt and do some cleaning. I told DH I'd at least vacuum. The bathrooms really need to be cleaned as well. I could also stand to do some laundry as well. I'll be out pretty much all day tomorrow, so I should get it done since I doubt DH will do it!

Kara
March 24th, 2006, 08:45 AM
For today:

Walk (done)
2 loads of laundry (half done)
hit the mall, return a few items and hit Gymbo
Get some fish at the store for DH's dinner

March 24th, 2006, 10:55 AM
I think I posted in here about a year and 1/2 ago but I'll give it another shot :)
1.What is your name and family stats? (babies names, ages, etc...)
(ETA: Feel free to post pics! )
I'm Lynn, married to Keith since 9/00. We're parents to Aaron who is closer to 3 than 2
http://shim1.shutterfly.com/procgserv/47b6dd03b3127cce98548b934c4000000027118AbtHDRizctD
2) How long have you been a SAHM?
Since April of 2003. I was a SAHW before Aaron was born :) I've recently started making bracelets (mother's bracelets and other misc. beads/findings) and have been busy doing that.

3) What did you do before this wonderful new job?
I was an interior designer and designed offices. I was also an account manager for Steelcase office furniture. I am terrible at sales :heee: and good at design. It wasn't a good mix
4) What does DH/SO do?
Hmmm..his latest job is in management with the largest nursery (plants not kids) in MI. He manages the customer service department. This is his extreme busy season which starts this week and goes until July. He has worked a 65 hour week this week before today even started

5) What are your priorities for each day? Where do you feel you need the most help with motivation in getting things done each day?
My priorities are making sure we're clean and fed and played with :) I try to have a plan as to what we're going to do every day. Both of us like getting out of the house and we do different activities during the week. The only set thing we do is storytime at one of our local libraries on Tuesday.
I also need to start motivating myself to get Aaron in his big-boy bed. At almost 3 he's still in the crib but I'm anxious to re-do his room.
We've been in this house for almost a year and have done nothing to it other than paint the kitchen a color we can't stand. So this spring/summer I'm hoping to start doing some cosmetic stuff.

6) What do you hope to get out of this journal?
I want to see what other SAHMs do during the week. Hoping to gain some inspiration and ideas. I like the list making posts because it reminds me that I need to do stuff each day too.

Well, I'll be cleaning my basement most of the day. DH re-did part of our ceiling and as a result there's drywall dust all over the place. It's murder on my poor allergies! I already vacuumed once with the cheap vacuum and it still feels dusty. I'm going to have to mop the bathroom floor because the Swiffer didn't cut it. Then I'll use the better vacuum to get the rest of the yucky dust off my floor. I've gone through numerous dry Swiffer sheets dusting it. I'm convinced we'll be getting dust off various things in the basement for months. At least he's replacing the carpet this weekend.

Sarah had her first OT appointment today. She hasn't really seen her yet, so we just did a feeding evaluation and she checked on her fine motor skills. She's behind in feeding (which we knew), but fine motor skills are within the normal range. :woo: She has her next appointment next Wednesday, which reminds me I need to tell my mom that since she'll be the one home with her that day.

Amy - That is great news!!! Well not about the dust, LOL!!

I had a busy yet productive weekend..yesterday I sorted the little storage room we have upstairs. 5 bags of clothes/blankets..and all spring/summer stuff is sorted. Also threw away 2 bags of trash/old toys. Now onto the closets and basement.

Need to shower (still in pjs too Mary LOL)
Take boys outside after lunch

Hi all! :wavey: Sorry I've been MIA. Been going through some stuff here lately :blue: (it's getting better though). I'm also trying to spend less time on here during the day too, and more time with the kiddos.

I'm usually very, very active in here and feel bad that I've been so behind. Anyway, I wanted to say: I'm so glad that you are all doing your to-do lists!!! Isn't it great? You can keep tabs on what needs to get done, what you have done, and it's nice to see the things when you've accomplished them. I know for me, it's a good feeling. So I wanted to say how proud I am of you all for using that system. I know I'm lost without it! :aok:

OK....well, on Saturday was Alexia's bday party. It was a hit (uh, except for the princess...., it was a homely looking princess and without a tiarra!). No wonder why a character came w/ the birthday package...you get what you pay for. It was at a place called KidZone and all had a wonderful time. :)

Afterwards we came here and Alexia opened up her presents. James, unbeknownst to me, bought her a bike w/ training wheels (her first bike)! A Dora one. I was shocked because we've been talking about it, but didn't think she'll get one until more into the spring. She does great with riding it! :aok:

Ok, and the day before her party she had to be taken to the ER. A double ear infection! :blue: I thought her party was going to have to be canceled, so I asked the Dr. what she thought, and said not to cancel it because w/ the ear drops it takes the pain away immediately (it was awful seeing her in so much pain :blue: ) So she's still on the amoxicillan stuff.

Angelina has her Early Intervention evaluation tomorrow. A speech and occupational therapist will be here tomorrow at 11 am. So we'll know by then if she's behind, and if so if she qualifies for therapy. If she doesn't qualify, I'm sure whatever excercises they give us to do with her will help. To qualify they have to be at least 33% delayed in one area or 25% or more delayed in 2 areas. So, we'll see....

Here's my list for today. I'm also adding some stuff on there to get done during this week too:

~ Laundry!!!
~ pay some bills
~ Grocery store for various things incl. cat food, bread, milk
~ Start writing out thank you notes
~ Stop in Gymboree. Can't believe how late into GB redemption I am, that I haven't purchased anything yet!
~ Go to post office and return Naartjie stuff.
~ Hang up Alexia's new stuff & try to go through their clothes
~ Start to sell Angelina's clothes on here or ebay
~ Clean bathroom
~ Clean their playroom

I hope everyone has a great day! :)

Lynn, Welcome! :wavey: Great to have you here!

Mary, I'm glad the list is working for you!! It's great, isn't it?

Amy, Glad to see that Sarah has started her PT and OT. It will help her immensely! I have a feeling that Ang is delayed in her eating as well. We'll see tomorrow...

Theresa, sorry to hear about your interview....but I'm wishing DH luck w/ his interview :crossfing: hope he gets it!

My major task today is to get all the stuff we have for bulk pick up out to the road. The garbage men are coming tomorrow. It shouldn't take too long. I just have to clean out the changing table. My dad is coming this afternoon to help me move it out to the street.

I also have to wash DH's work shirts and would like to try and get the kitchen floor washed.

Have a great day, Everyone! :sunny:

I am going to jump in and give this a shot
:)
1.What is your name and family stats? (babies names, ages, etc...)
(ETA: Feel free to post pics! )
I'm Karri, married to Chris (10/00), with 3 kids, Aidan (3/5/02) and Norah & Elliott (10/16/03)

2) How long have you been a SAHM?
Since July of 2003.

3) What did you do before this wonderful new job?
I was the Director of Human Resources at the corporate offices of a large commercial real estate firm

4) What does DH/SO do?
He's a manager at a consulting/accounting/tax firm and does technology risk consulting (assurance audits). Exciting stuff, eh? He travels a lot b/c of his client base and works long-ass hours.

5) What are your priorities for each day? Where do you feel you need the most help with motivation in getting things done each day?
#1 is making sure we're dresses and fed and played with :) We usually have a plan for the week that involves at least several outings with my MOMS Club, plus we have Norah's speech therapy.
I need motivation to start doing things off of OUAL in my downtime :) I want to get some 'me' projects done, as well as some small projects around the house.
I am also the President of my MOMS Club and I tend to push that to the backburner and then suddenly, I have all this crap that needs to get done and I am swamped. You could say I procrastinate :shuffle:

6) What do you hope to get out of this journal?
Like Lynn, I want to see what other SAHMs do during the week. Hoping to gain some inspiration and ideas. I also love lists. They make me feel like I have my shit organized and like I accomplish something when I cross off.

Karri
March 29th, 2006, 07:52 AM
Ok, so my list for today includes:

* cleaning the house
* getting Aidan to make one more thank you note
* getting info on one more community sponsored agriculture program
* getting the wax i spilled off my kitchen floor :heee:

Oh, we also have speech therapy at 11:00 today.
Normally I wouldnt put housecleaning as a task, but the kids are all sick, and they dont really want to do anything but watch movies. So I think I can accomplish it. And its disgusting, since we were too busy to tackle it this weekend.

BTW...does anyone know how to get candle wax off vinyl flooring?

I would use something small, like a credit card, and just chip away at it. Maybe put an ice cube on it first to make sure it's as hard/solid as possible so that it will just break up?

That was my suggestion too.

My list for today:

Emma has to have school at some point today. Anyone have ideas for another letter T craft project. We already did egg carton tulips.
Laundry, as usual
Clean the living room, dining room and kitchen (dh cooked dinner last night)
make Emmas 4 yr doc appt and get shot records transferred
clean off desktop upstairs

Hey Karri, good to see ya in here! :heee: Welcome! Yea, aren't lists the best? I, too, love when I cross something off of it! It's a good feeling!

Hmn, candle wax..... I would probaby try scraping it up with a butter knife. It came off when I did that on my counter.

Oh, I need one more thing to add to the list for today:
~Go to the library. Books are due today. But before I do that, I need to photocopy the recipes that I wanted to try! If I dont get the chance to go there, I think I can renew them over the phone.

Let me run and straighen up the kitchen..... the speech therapist and occupational therapist will be here in less than an hour. I also need to wipe down Angelina's highchair, as I'm sure they're going to observe her eating.

Sabrina, the first thing that came to mind was a tye die project :blush1:  Take an ol' t-shirt and tye die it. Ok, that may be too old for her....so how about something with toes. Like tracing her toes and doing something from there? Sorry, wasn't much help, eh?

I'm at work today at my parent's church, so no real list today. Here's what I need to do Thursday/Friday:

- Put away laundry
- WW meeting tomorrow
- PT at 9 am on Friday
- Put new hard drive in PC and make sure it works so DH can send in the rebate form
- Try on recently bought summer clothes on Sarah to see if anything needs to be returned
- Clean both bathrooms
- Meet Jess at bridal shop tonight around 6 to try on MOH dress, then dinner afterwards!!!

I have to say one good thing about all the darn drywall dust all over my house is that it made me vacuum!!!

I'm going to go see if anyone made lunch downstairs at the church. I'll probably go home if nobody did and eat there. I'd grab something on the way home, but I'm going out to dinner with Jess tonight and that's entirely enough calories right there!

Caroline is home with a wracking cough today (I feel bad that I made her go to school yesterday, but I had already promised to help out with an Open House), so I'm taking advantage of a "free day" to get her to the pediatrician for checking out her exzema. It's getting worse, and spreading to spots where she hasn't had contact with the carpet (what usually brings it out; rough textures), and there are spots that aren't going away even after applying the special lotion.

Other than that, now that the weather is staring to warm up I'm weeding out Caroline's closet and taking out the too-warm stuff (fleece sweatsuits, velour tops, etc.)

Sabrina, the first thing that came to mind was a tye die project :blush1:  Take an ol' t-shirt and tye die it. Ok, that may be too old for her....so how about something with toes. Like tracing her toes and doing something from there? Sorry, wasn't much help, eh?

I think I am going to nix the letter T craft and work on an easter craft and we are going to paint her toe nails. Yeah I know, doesn't really sound like school work but honestly she got most of the stuff done Monday so there isn't much left to do this week. Easter craft - make a wreath from construction paper and cut egg shapes from different colors and glue to the wreath.

I didn't get much done from my list yesterday so I guess I'll add it to today's list. Though I'm feeling pretty sleepy, I stayed up late & then Ian woke up in the middle of the night and took me a little more than an hour to get him down again and then I was up at 6:15am to start getting ready for Eliot's speech evaluation... I'm in bad need of a nap!!

~ Take Eliot to speech evaluation app. - DONE
~ Get cake, cards & stuff for Blair's favorite dinner (today is his bday!) - DONE
~ Put last clean sheets away - DONE
~ Dust
~ Empty dishwasher - DONE
~ Downstairs bathroom
~ Make sure I got everything for the taxes, we're getting them done TODAY (on-line) for sure

I also went to the grocery store again for several items. Played outside w/ the kids too, since it was nice out & suppose to be even nicer today! :yippee: PARK, here we come!

Dawn - Hope everything is ok!! good luck today with the OT and PT!! Can't believe they are early!!

Thanks Kara. :) Well, the evaluation is done and Angelina is actually delayed in more areas than I thought. :blue:

She does qualify for Early Intervention, & here's why/how:
She will be receiving therapy for these:

~ 33% delay in the area of communication & cognition (cognitive skills)
~ 25% delay in the area of fine motor skills.

She is 16 mos. old and for communication they have her developmental age range for 'receptive' at a 10-11 mos. level and for 'expressive' at 8-9 mos. level

For cognitive, she is showing at a 9-11 mos. level

For fine motor skills, she is showing at a 12-13 mo. level.

Also, she is not demonstrating age appropriate chewing or biting. She is demonstrating decreased oral motor control and lip strength. So, she will be getting help for this too from the speech language pathologist as well.

Next Tues, they'll be coming here for a 'paperwork' meeting basically. This is when they tell me how often they think she will need therapy for these things and when. And our goals, and things like that. It will probably be about 3 wks. before we actually start the therapy.

Although she needs it in more areas than I had thought, I'm glad that she will be receiving the help. Alexia received it for different things, and it helped immensely....so, we'll see what happens. :) They also gave us a crapload of things to work with her on and suggestions, etc. which will also help along w/ the therapy she will receive.

Anyway, from my list the one thing that I really want to get done today are writing out the thank you cards for Alexia's bday. I would like to start this by no later than tomorrow, so pple have it by the beginning of next week. I hate having this hanging over my head. Then the next priority are playing with the kids outside....it's going to be a gorgeous 68 degree day! I'm taking them to the park! :)

Karri - You go girl, getting your list all done! :woo:

It seemed like it took forever until we got therapy started with Sarah. I'm already seeing results from PT, but I think it's going to be a hard road with OT. Sarah's eating is pretty delayed. And I'm so darn sick of buying baby food I can't see straight!!! Part of the problem with feeding is she has zero interest in feeding herself, whether it's with a spoon or finger food or anything. :(

Good luck with her therapy, and keep us updated!

AmyP
March 30th, 2006, 07:09 AM
My list so far...

- Put away laundry partially done
- WW meeting tomorrow need to get ready for that in a few minutes
- PT at 9 am on Friday
- Put new hard drive in PC and make sure it works so DH can send in the rebate form will do during nap
- Try on recently bought summer clothes on Sarah to see if anything needs to be returned will do tomorrow so I can return them at work that night if need be
- Clean both bathrooms also ear-marked for naptime
- Meet Jess at bridal shop tonight around 6 to try on MOH dress, then dinner afterwards!!! DONE, dress is going to need major alterations, especially if I keep losing weight but that's fine!

Oh, and some really good news about Sarah. She's really really trying to crawl now. She's getting on all fours sometimes and is scootching a little tiny bit on her belly. I wouldn't be surprised if she crawls by my birthday (May 2). I really hope she does it soon so we can move on to walking. I told her therapist I want her walking at least holding one hand by October. She's the flower girl in Jess's wedding and I really don't want to carry her down the aisle!

Amy & Dawn, best of luck with PT & OT.
I should post about Eliot's speech evaluation. It was recommended that Eliot has speech therapy twice a week. He has the vocabulary of a 6 1/2yr old so his vocabulary skills are way above average but his articulation skills are a bit low and he has a little bit of a front lisp.
She said that his problems should be easy to correct, she recommended therapy twice a week and is checking with our insurance to see if it will be covered by them... I'm hoping it is!! :crossfing
She also said that Eliot has great problem solving skills, his attention to detail is excellent and so is his ability to follow instructions... hmmm, I wonder why he has so much trouble with that one at home? And also mentioned that he's very stimulative so that will help during therapy :aok:
He has a nasal sound for the letters s, k & g so she recommended first seeing an ENT specialist to make sure there isn't any blockage in his nasal caveries so I gotta talk to his pedi about recommending somebody.
Oops, gotta go get Eliot ready for school!! :bolt:

I also plan on getting Sarah to the park since it's supposed to be 74 tomorrow. We went briefly today but I think she was tired, so she wasn't interested in swinging on the swings. We spent a good part of the afternoon at the pool at the gym with my brother, and she LOVED that.

I'm making progress today!

- PT at 9 am DONE
- Try on summer clothes on Sarah maybe this afternoon, not sure
- Clean both bathrooms cleaned one, will do the smaller one this afternoon

I have to take Sarah to the doctor in an hour. She's been poking her ear a lot and I'm wondering if she's just messing with it or if she as an EI. She was in the pool yesterday, which could cause it. She's also cutting a few teeth, which can cause problems as well.

We're going to head out soon, though. I want to take her to the park and let her swing on the swings for a little bit until we have to leave. Then I have to run to Wal-mart on the way home for baby food, grab a few things at Sam's Club, and then we can go home.

The project from work took most of my day yesterday but thankfully got it all done last night so today we just had a nice relaxing day.
I took the kids to Casa Maņana to the Peter Cottontail play with my MOPS group, it was such a fun play and the kiddos had a great time :aok:
We were gonna stop somewhere for lunch afterwards but Ian was asleep before we left the parking lot so we picked up something and Eliot & Ian had a picnic in the living room :supergrin
Ian woke up with a fever!! :( And complaining about his tummy hurting, I thought that maybe he was hungry so I fed them, he didn't eat much but I guess it was enough since he didn't complain about his tummy anymore, he did eat a pretty nice dinner :aok: I'm just hoping that is not another ear infection :crossfing
We were suppose to go to the neighborhood egg hunt tomorrow and also to see Thomas the Tank Engine since it's in town but we'll have to see how Ian is doing tomorrow morning.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. :)

James won the pot for the 31 game at my parent's house on Sat. :woo: $120, so that was really nice! :aok: We're planning for the next card game to be at the end of April or beginning of May.

My mom stopped by today, to drop some things off that I forgot at her house, and to also drop off Alexia's bday gift that she kept forgetting to give me from her garage. She stood for a while which was nice. I kept Alexia in from preschool today. With the time change, we're all still getting use to it here. She slept until 9 am! I was actually glad, she needed it. She's still been getting up pretty early. Tomorrow she has her easter egg hunt at school, so she'll have fun with that (well, IF it doesn't rain...they say it may).

Tomorrow someone from Early Intervention will be coming here at 1:15 for the 'paperwork' meeting. They will tell me how often they feel Angelina will need therapy and our goals and what we expect from it, etc.

I need to get a new 'to do' goal list for me for this week. I'll try to get one by tomorrow. The girls are going to bed early today...they are so tired.

I'm having a bad day...
I am getting a head cold...Austin has one and isn't going to school...Our brand new washer is broken, repairman coming Friday....At least I get my hair cut tonight.

All I'm gonna do this afternoon is go through the mail and maybe nap if Austin will take one with me.

Hey, Dawn whats that cake called again?? And can you describe it to me??

Mary DK

Dawn, woohoo for the extra $$! That's always nice :aok:

Kara, sorry to hear you're having such a tough day. Rest as much as you can :hug99:

I didn't get much done this weekend, we had a full schedule on Saturday and then Sunday I had to deal with two sick boys :dead: They both have been pretty whinny!
I took them both to the Dr yesterday... Ian has a sore throat & fever, the Dr tested for strep but thankfully it was negative, no antibiotic for him, he needs to fight it off by himself. I'll need to call the Dr if the fever doesn't go away before the weekend. Eliot has some drainage going down his throat which is irritated & also has some puss on his tonsils (sorry TMI!!), he ended up with an antibiotic.
I'm swamped with stuff to do for work and finishing the MOPS newsletter today, gotta get everything done today/tomorrow. It's race week in our neck of the woods, we're not going to the races but plan to go check out all the other race related activities around town :awink:
I guess that means that I'll be doing housework when everybody is asleep, if I don't pass out myself

Hey, Dawn whats that cake called again?? And can you describe it to me??
Kara,
It's called a pull-apart cake. Here's some pics...can't get better than that for a description ;)

Cake looks like a real 'regular' 1/4 sheet cake......

http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b6dd11b3127cce885f7e97d43900000016108EZt2zNozai

But only w/ 20 cupcakes underneath....see? :)

Kara - because of the amount of people, we did 2 cakes. This Cinderella one was all vanilla cupcakes and the other one we had was all chocolate cupcakes. You can also have vanilla AND chocolate cupcakes mixed for each cake too if you wanted instead. Each cake was only $12.99....but since we wanted it decorated like this (using one of their decorating packages...they had lots to choose from) it was an extra $7.99 each cake.

Here's the other one w/ the chocolate cupcakes in case you wanted to see:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b6dd11b3127cce885f7d6b156c00000016108EZt2zNozai

Hope this helps! :)

Oh, I also asked them for some cupcake containers to put any extra cupcakes in. He gave me a bunch and charged me only .25 cents. It came in handy cuz we did have extra cupcakes so we were able to send some cupcakes home to people without them getting ruined by being on a plate w/ tin foil, KWIM?

My weekend totally sucked! I was supposed to go shopping in the states with my SIL but her DD got sick. I decided to go down with just me and my kids anyway. I left the mall and was driving down the freeway to go back to Canada when my car started to make a loud high-pitched noise when I pushed on the gas and then I smelled something burning so I immediatly pulled over and my oil light popped on. I don't know anything about cars so I was really upset, I didn't want to start the engine again because of the smell and the car was serviced recently so I couldn't imagine what was wrong. It was 9:00pm and very dark and I had no phone, I didn't think It would be safe to just sit in the car with my kids so I took them out and put them in my double stroller, bundled them up in coats and ran down the side of freeway to an exit. It was to late for any businesses to be open so I had to find a house to borrow somebody's phone. I picked the house with the cleanest yard; I had no other way to gage whether they were good people. I picked well, I found a really nice older couple who let me use their phone and invited us inside to wait for my dad to come pick us up, which took over an hour. When my dad got there we had to go find a tow truck and get the car towed, we didn't get back until 1:00am. So now my car is in Washington getting repaired and probably won't be done until tomorrow, they have to order a new part in and it will cost upwards of $700.00!

I should make a photo appointment - one of DH's clients sent us several "obviously" Easter dresses, and thought we should get some pictures to send her as a thank-you. Considering it, being as I wouldn't let her wear these dresses in nearly any other circumstance! :woa:

I made an appointment for Sarah's Easter shots for tomorrow. My mom has been complaining that her 8x10 of Sarah is too old and said she wanted a new one. She said she'd pay for one, but I think I have a coupon for a free one at Sears.

I'm just going to do a quick to-do list for today....

Alexia had gymnastics class & we just got back.

I would also like to:
~ vacuum the main floor
~ straighten up the playroom (alexia will help me on this)
~ put their folded clothes away
~ straighten up the living room. Although it's still empty, it's starting to attract too many of their toys!
~ Finish writing out a couple more thank you notes :blush1: and have Alexia sign her name.

Dawn- I like that idea for the pull-apart cake! I'll have to try it.

Today I am going to tackle my laundry room, I will organize, fold and iron all the clothes.
then it is just basic upkeep through the rest of the house ie; vacuum, dust, sweep, bathrooms, bedrooms etc.

Mary DK
April 6th, 2006, 12:28 PM
Got the bathroom downstairs wiped up, the kitchen floor cleaned & got a couple of loads of laundry going.... oh and talked to my Grandpa & Aunt (that's a task in itself  )
I need to go wipe the bathroom upstairs, vacumm, hang the kids new clothes in their closets and organize the playroom a bit.
Also, I need to call the ENT specialist and make an app. for Eliot.

Dawn, cool cakes! :aok:

Kara, what's the party's theme?

I am getting nothing done today. Woke up to the DSL and phone disconnected so I have been trying to get those up all day (DSL is obviously up but the phone is not). More reasons not to get a new number with this phone company. They had orders to disconnect and reconnect this nummber at my MILs house when she moves on April 14th. They disconnected today and were planning on reconnecting on the 14th. This is just the latest of many problems I have had with them in the past 5 days. I am sick of wasting my time to get them to fix their mistakes.

To do list:
call clinic (when we get our phone back)
call plumber(s) (when we get our phone back)
laundry
clean kitchen

Anyway, I wanted to start compiling a list of the things I need to do for tomorrow and the following days. I've been holding it in my head, and I know I won't remember it unless I type it out here real quick

~ Call Dr.
~Try to find receipts to Party City to return party harts
~ Go to motor vehicles (register James' truck)
~ Call a couple concrete places to see how many yards of concrete we need to get poured into the footings.

Today was another gorgeous day (even nicer than yesterday!) i believe the high was 73 degrees. So, another day at the park! :aok: Tomorrow suppose to be 68, so another nice day. :)

A concrete truck is coming tomorrow later in the afternoon to pour the cement in the footings James completed for our kitchen expansion. Still ALOT more work to do, but we'll eventually get there. :)

That's really it, I guess. Hope everyone is doing well! :)

No, I am going freaking nuts without a car. He had to order a car through work and every week they tell us it'll be in next week. Today we got a letter from the dealer, thanking us for our purchase and telling us they are at our service. Well, get us our freaking car!!

I wish I could stay car free and not feel like a spoiled lazy American. But it's such a PITA to schlep the kids on the bus to go to the grocery, stuff the bottom of the stroller full of food, go back home, and do the same thing two days later. Where we live is kind of your typical suburb~ nothing is all that close and most everyone around us has cars.
