View Full Version : Carseat Advice Needed

Caleb has learned how to unbuckle his upper buckle (well he's known how to do it a long time but just started "doing" it) in his car seat and take his arms out of the straps. So I look back and he's down to the stomach belt only. :err:

We are in the car a lot and also do predominantly interstate driving - it's hard to keep pulling over to fix his belt and nothing I say or do keeps him from doing it. I don't like to pull over to the side of the road and it can be a while to the next exit. In town is just as bad. Most often, I don't even see him doing it - he's just out and then hanging over the side trying to grab stuff from the seats, since my car is a major crapmobile.

Any tricks or advice on what to do?

Micayla used to do that all the time. Drove me up a frickin wall. The only thing that helped was 1. threatening to take away something that she loved and 2. playing up the whole Dora thing about "Seat belts, so we can be safe!". She eventually stopped doing it.

Yes I'm wondering if I should start taking away the DVDs for the rest of the trip every time he does it. He watches TV in the car. Duh, should have thought of that.

I've seen this stuff that you can put on buckles that looks like the tough part of velcro. It doesn't feel very good to the touch. I saw it at Babies R Us or Toys R Us.

Bridget, get a *remote control no barking or you get zapped* doggie collar and try that ;)

JUST KIDDING! Thats a tough one - thankfully I havent come across that problem with Kaitlyn... we just emphasized from the start that the police made the rules that she needs to wear it... and it helps that one of my daycare dads is a provincial police officer too and also told her the same thing... He always picks up his child while he is still in uniform - so what he says sticks with Kaitlyn. Kwim?
