Hi there... didn't know where to put this-

Sheahan had her 18 month appt on Thursday unfortunately she was scheduled for her 18m appt the day I delivered Maeve so we had to reschedule to this past Thursday. Anyways she got 3 shots- polio, chicken pox and dtap.

Friday morning she wakes up and has a temp of 102.8... call ped to be sure...and start the motrin....Friday night is was 102.5... more motrin... Saturday morning 101 more motrin.... noon today 103.5 call the ped- they advise more motrin... take it 6pm 104.5- cal ped again- they advise more motrin and that I can give her .5 tsp more and to give it every 5 hrs...and to callback if it doesn't start to go down- we gave her a tub in luke warm water- cool compresses on her head and neck and just put her down her temp was 102.5

She has never had any type of bad reaction/fever with any other her previous shots....

Any advice or has this happened to anyone else? I am trying not to over react but Shea has never had a temp this high before and I am so worried... I know it is from the shots...

Thanks-

Riley had a similar reaction at his 1 year shots his temp was raging and no amount of paracetemol would get it down, but you did the right thing with the lukewarm bath, keep her cool, it took a day or two but eventually it went down. thankfully he wasn't bothered by it and slept most the time, but I kept him with me cause I was so fearful of him convulsing.

Just keep putting damp cold cloths on her forehead, under the armpits and keep loose clothing on her, if it goes over 104 and you can't get it back down take her to the hospital.

Good luck I hope she gets better soon :hug99:

Ellie had a reaction like that to the chicken pox vaccine. She had a temp for a few days and even broke out with some spots. I would just keep doing what you're doing and call the doc again tomorrow or on Monday if she's not better.

 for little Shehan.

Off topic: Is she really 18 months old?! :woa: I remember that time we met at Susan's house and you were VERY pregnant with her. I think you had her like a day or 2 later. Time really flies! :disbelief

Wow, that is really scary. I'm afraid I'd panic and take Catherine to the ER once the fever hit 104. I hope she is doing much better now. This may be a really stupid question, but could any of the illnesses Shea was vaccinated for (and reacting to) be transmitted to Maeve?

hi there... just got back from the ped... she had a temp of 102 this morning... so we took her in and they said it may not be a reaction to the shots and did a throat culture...

thanks for all the advice and support...

i am pretty sure it is from the shots but will wait for the results... if she has a temp this afternoon I am going to cry...

Kate, I'm sorry about the high temps. :hug99: I hope they come down soon. Maybe it was just a little bug. :crossfing
