Dang I'm full of questions lately. I have never planned a birthday party for the kids. We've always just invited our closest family/friends over, did a cake and a few presents and called it a day.

Anyhoo, I'm trying to figure out what to do for Micayla's bday as far as bday party favors. Her party is Dora themed. I know there will be boys and girls coming. We haven't sent out invitations yet but I'd guess there'd roughly be about 15-20 kids. I'm looking for some ideas for things that would work for both boys and girls and that aren't going to cost me an arm and a leg.

Oriental Trading is great, but they probably won't have Dora themed stuff.

You could buy a box of indivdually wrapped fruit snacks or granola bars and put one in each bag. Also, you could hit the dollar store and find little plastic cups. My dd got a Disney princess cup in one of her bags and she still loves that thing! Also, at party supply stores they usually have party favors for pretty cheap. For dd's 2nd b-day party this year she picked out Elmo whistles for a favor. They came 6 to a package and only cost a $2-$3 dollars.

Mandi, Alexia had a Dora themed party for her 2 yr. old party. I did get the favors from Birthday Express though (dora or boots bubbles, whistles....). But I also got fruit snacks...w/ the Dora packaging and I know there's more Dora themed food too..... so that's an idea. Oh, and I also threw in a sheet of Dora stickers in each favor bag too....you can get them anywhere. The fruit snacks and stickers are stuff that girls or boys like. :)

We went to a party where the theme was care bears. The mom got a ton of ideas off of a site called birthdaypartyideas.com (I think - I'm going to check it out). She printed off coloring books that she stapled together for the kids. Then she gave out crayons with them. Also, I think she had stickers and pencils - OH and she gave out one jar of playdoh too. There may have been more, but I don't remember.

And here's the Dora ideas that people have submitted: http://209.15.117.162/html/dora.html

How about getting a Dora pinata and filling it? Then all you need if candy bags and its a fun game too! We did this for one of Ashton's birthdays.

We've talked about a pinata. They are hugely popular in the SW. But I wasn't sure if I liked the idea of 2-4yo kids swinging a pinata stick.

I never thought about the Dora snacks. That'd be cheap. I could likely find stickers too. I guess I need to hit the dollar store and see what else I can come up with.

Keep the ideas coming!

Birthday Express sells the Dora pull string pinata, so they wouldn't have to swing the stick. Just an idea. :)

Good point on the pinata. I'll have to think about it. The party is becoming more and more expensive as it goes along.

I just ordered some Dora temporary tattoos on Ebay just now. :aok: I figured the kids would like those more than stickers. Not to mention as a parent I would. I hate finding stickers stuck on my new furniture or on the walls.

So so far I know I'm doing the tattoos and the fruit snacks. I was thinking maybe bubbles or playdoh too. :dunno:

I was going to suggest Birthday Express.com too. I always buy from them every year.
